| Comments: | I bought a bathouse last year because I have 7 brown bats living in my barn, and I wanted to attract more. The wasps found it an attractive home also. I took it down and cleaned out the wasp nest after they had raised their brood. The bats leave during the winter, and moved back last week. My question is: Where is the ideal spot on the outside of my barn to place the bat house? I bought it from the bat society out of Austin, Texas.
I live in Northwest Arkansas on 3 wooded acres, and am lucky enough to have an old red wooden barn that I have restored. It is on the north side of the property, and the large open doors face the south. Currently the bats live on the east side of the barn. Last year I found a dead nursing bat with a baby on the ground, and I was able to succesfully raise him till he was able to fly on his own. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks, Elisa |

You have the only pictures I could find on the internet to accompany difficult construction directions on bat houses! I moved into a very old house a couple of years ago, and the previous inhabitants (hint: brown, small and furry) have refused to give up occupancy. I don't want to hurt them, but with cats and kids, I can't have them in the house. Bat houses would be a perfect solution, and I am so grateful that you have shed some light on this subject! |

| Comments: | I just put a bat chalet that my sister gave me for Christmas 2 years ago. I did not know at the time where to put it. Now that our home has been built, the ideal place for it is on the Oak tree. We chose this tree because it is on the eastern side of the house, and secure from the south westernly winds. It is well protected. The bats are currently using the underside of our gutters for nesting, and I feel for their safety because my husband sprays for wasps. I feel that this insectiside may be harmful to them. We have a creek that runs through our property, and also woods. We don't have a shortage of mosquitoes, because of a lake that is moss, and frog egg covered nearly all summer long. It is an ideal breeding site for mosquitoes. |

Wow, great job on the Bat House! I was doing some reading and discovered Bat houses are great natural ways to combat mosquitos. The only thing that has ever bother me is that bats will get in your hair and lay eggs and you'll go crazy. | Comments: | I've been considering putting up a house for some time. We
live in North central Florida on 3 acres with a huge lake about 1/4 of a mile away. We have some wooded areas on our property, mostly cedars. I thought this would be an ideal location for bats to want to come and live. I hope we get lucky! |

| Comments: | Hi Josh:
I have been interested in bats since I had some living in my trees in Lake Los Angeles, CA. I used to be scared to death of them when I was a kid walking around my campsite in Independence, CA I now realize they are harmless, loving, beatiful and very detailed little ones. I collect everything I can on them now! Thanks for the site! |
