Legg both worked in Glen Alum and I would spend part of my summer vacation there with my grandfather, spending my days with Miss Ella and Ruby at the boarding house. | Comments: | My dad, Robert Lee Whorley, was born in Glen Alum. My Grandpa, Harve Harrison, lived there until they had to move to Ben Creek, when they took all the houses out. My mother, was Euva May Harrison Whorley. We lived on Ben Creek for a while before we moved to Holden, WV. I loved going to my Grandpa's house. Bernice always kept lots of pop and other goodies. We were treated very well. I have a lot of good memories of Glen Alum, especially of running around with my Aunt Toots. She was the same age of my brother. She felt more like a sister to me. I loved it when she made homemade fudge. |

| Comments: | Daughter of Lee and Mandy Hatfield. Daddy was best known for the best moonshine this of this side of the Rocky Mountains. One of my favorite stories of him was when my grandmother (Chloe Mullins) would have to help him, since his still was across the river, she would have to paddle the boat with Dad and glass jars of moonshine. Dad began sampling his 180 proof product and by the time he returned to the boat, Maw knew she had a problem either loose the boat and all or knock him out ot the boat. She didn't want to hurt him with the paddle so she took his guitar (he always had with him) and hit him over the head and out of the boat. He wasn't upset about going into the river but was more upset with his broken guitar. I could talk for days about their exploits.
I have seven siblings, two brothers Walden and Lee Jr. and five sisters Jaunita, Ruby, Margie, Rose and Debbie. Was born at home near the tunnel bypass and beside the Tug River. The most beautiful place in the world. I have four children Ed, Warren, Samantha and Jennifer. So excited and looking forward to the Glen Alum Reunion and discussing some memories. Going to my first movie at the theater and walking up the hollow to the company store, and sleigh riding off the railroad tunnel hill from the cemetary to the railroad tracks, etc. |

Seems like we finish one reunion and i start counting down the days untill the next one. As of Jan. 25-07 App. Fuels sold the Glen Alum plant. Within 30 working days we will be back working,cleaning coal.Glen Alum has been a source of income for over 100 years. The next round of coal to come out of Glen Alum will be Met coal. This coal is used all around the world in making steel. With a little luck a few of us will be able to hang our hats up and say that Glen Alum was a great place to work. No matter the outcome i will always be at the top gate at Glen Alum to welcome you home one more time. Pete i was up all night looking at the photos and reaing. Everyone did a great job on putting this together. It is sad to look at the pictures and know that it's changed so much. Rev. Bobby, can't wait to shake your hand again.
