Comments:You have an amazing web site. Hopefully through this site I can learn a little more about my early ancestors and help me clear up a few questions I have about them.
Mt GreatGGG Grandfather was John Glen (1726-1828) of Lincoln County NC, (Born near Londonderry Ireland), who was married to Elizabeth Spratt, second to Jane McLean, and then third to Mary Grissom. I descended from the marriage of John and Jane through their son David who was born in NC in 1780. David married Elizabeth Grissom which I would assume was related to his Step-Mom Mary Grissom.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who could maybe fill me in a little on the North Carolina Glenn’s of this line. I do know that many of John Glen's children move from NC to Tennessee and other points west sometime prior to 1850. Others I am told remained in North and South Carolina. I have very little information on David Glenn other than he moved to Tennesee and died their around 1860. Why did he move to Tennessee?. Then again his Step-Mom may also be his Mother In-Law. I may have answered my own question. I wish I knew more bout him.
I’m also a big Civil War buff and am very interested in learning about distant cousins who fought in that war and with who. I was so far able to confirm 2 who were in the famed “Bethel Regiment” , the 11th NC Infantry.

If you have any information you can share or have web links that may help me, send to:

Comments:My mother and I used to be members of the Gaston/Lincoln Genealogical Society back around 1997 or so. Her name was Catherine Mason Carpenter Beck and she lived her entire life in Gastonia, NC. My father was very ill at this time and we were not able to continue, but we enjoyed the meetings we did come to, and got great information on her grandfather who served in the War Between the States. I am looking for a friend of my mother's who I believe was buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia. His name is John B. McFalls who was killed I believe on February 5, 1943 in a collison of two bombers near Newberry, SC. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Fred McFalls. I do not know how to access the cemetery records at Hollywood. If someone can tell me that I would appreciate it very much. Thank you very much, Sincerely, Karen Ringer.

Comments:Enjoyed looking around your site, but unfortunately did not find the names I am looking for. I am researching the names of Rutledge and Pinner. In particular, James E. Rutledge 1809-1883 who married Belinda T. Pinner 1812-1899. Believe her father may have been Winaford Pinner 1782-1846. James Rutledge, son of George Rutledge 1774-1856, who was the son of James Rutledge 1746-1825. They lived in the area of Lincoln Co. that became Gaston Co. and were all burried in Goshen Cemetery. Would appreciate any information that someone may have on this family. The daughter of James and Belinda married Andrew Robinson Henderson in 1850.

pioneers. I enjoy "Footprints in Time" because I almost always find some article about one of my ancestors each quarter.
Keep up the good work!

If anyone is researching the Stroup(Stroupe) from Gaston or Lincoln County, I am missing information about Easton Winslow Stroup, son of Peter Stroup and Malinda Cobb. When he died(1899?) and where he is buried. He was my gr grandfather.
Also, anyone know anything about Stephen Green born (abt. 1815-1820) in North Carolina but lived in Fairfield County,South Carolina on 1880 census. He is not the Stephen Green that lived in Cleveland or Rutherford County.
He was my gr grandfather.

Comments:Is there anyone who could answer some questions I have formulated concerning an ancestor I have just discovered in Gaston county around 1860 thru 1865. Jonas Brown is my ggggrandfather and is 23 years old in 1860 living in the household with his father John Brown and his mother Catherine Brown, along with many other family members andhis one year old son, Jonas. Then I find he joined the 16th regiment from Gaston County. He later is said to have deserted in 1865. Can you please help me find out where there farm was, If he came back to Gaston Co. after the war, if he was hung, inprisoned, defected to the North, or just whatever happened to him. In 1880 the census shows that his father John Brown is now 80 years old and living in Shelby, N.C. His son, Jonas is now 21. Help
Thankyou for your consideration and time.

I've been researching Linebergers, Staffords, Hoffmans, Costners, Hollands and everyone else I find while researching. It is very interesting. My main problem so far is finding the correct Lewis Lineberger, married to Maria Spanheimer. I found one site that said they were married in Germany and another says Lincoln Co. I had no exact birth date, only that he came here before 1768.
Any one with information, please email me. Hope to sign up for membership soon...have a good day...Ruby

On page 63, in John Hufman's will, property located on the south side of the south fork of the Catawba River including the mill and improvements called the Jonas Hufman mill, and the JOHN HAMILTON place or where Jno. Hamilton lives including where Polly Hovis lives, in short all his land on said fork was to be divided between John Hufman and the six sons of Jonas Hofman, viz: ELI, Michael, Jacob, Jonas, Miles and John.

On pg.69, ELI, b.Feb.e, 1814 married MARTHA HAMILTON, daughter of JOHN HAMILTON. On. pg 55, LEWIS HAMILTON was married to Mary A. Falls.

Can anyone tell me if Martha and Lewis were both children of this John Hamilton, and did John have other children as well. Also, any information regarding JOHN HAMILTON would be most appreciated. I know that Larkin Hamilton was my gg-gf, but I have been unable to locate his parents. Larkin was born in 1826-28.

Thanks for any help.

It is my understanding that my ancestor Rev. James HILL and his wife Precious STOKES is buried in this cemetery. But low and behold it is fenced in and under lock and key so a person go looking for grave sites.
I have it that Rev. HILL was born in 1771 in Mecklenburg County, NC. He was the son of James HILL, Sr. and Jean UNKNOWN. Rev. James HILL died March 20, 1828 in Lincoln County, NC. I have no dates for the wife Precious STOKES.

I finally got a contact from Jason Harpe of the

Comments: Hello,

I am researching the family of Isaac West of Lincoln County, North Carolina. Isaac West died about 1835 and his homeplace was later cut off into Gaston County, NC.

I do not know the name of his wife. I do know he had sons named Barnabus West and Stephen West. Stephen West married Mary Belk and they left Lincoln Co. NC about 1807 and ended up in Overton Co., TN.

Does anyone have any information on this Isaac West of Lincoln County, NC. He is often confused with the Isaac West of South Carolina. These were two separate men with two separate families.

I would love to hear from someone out there who can help me with this family. I do know that my Isaac West was an elder at the Long Creek Baptist Church of Dallas, North Carolina about 1794.

Thank you for any help you may give me.

Comments:I am researching my 5th great grand father John McIntire born abt 1760. I have always suspected that his family was from either Tryon (Rutherford)and/or Mecklenburg or at the least connected to those families.

>From his Federal Revolutionary War pension file, he enlisted the first time in 1776/1777 in Orange County NC and served in both the 2nd and 3d Georgia Continentals.

I know that it is believed that some of these families moved south from Halifax Va. Some appear to stop briefly in Orange before later moving to Tryon.

Recently I found his Revolutionary War pension application to the State of South Carolina. This SC pension was for John's second service. It includes John Mcantire's indenture agreement between John of then of Craven District SC (which abuts the NC state line) and Samuel Knox of Mecklenburg NC for the sum of 500 pound for service in SC militia of 10 months.

After the war, he settled in the Pendleton District SC.

On 13 November 1800 there is a Rutherford deed from John McEntire Sr. to John McEntire Jr. and his son James of Pendland, (Pendleton District) SC, 150 acres on Jumping Branch of Brushy Creek. There is also a deed of the same date From John Sr to John III (both of Rutherford?)

Around 1824 he moved to Clarksville, Habersham Georgia. He died there around 1835.

There are many of his children's names that echo those of the NC McIntire's.

Also, in abt 1820 there is a Joseph McIntire in Habersham with John's son James. Joseph is about the right age to be John's brother but I can find no connecting evidence on him.

Based on the evidence, I believe John may be the son of John McIntire and Rachael Beason of Tryon and later Rutherford.

I would like to share information with anyone who has researched these families.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

I have found his Last Will & Testament, mentioning his James & William, and a grandson, John.

I also need information on John Murphy m. Hannah McNamare in 1786 in Lincoln Co., NC. John is my great-great grandfather. I am descended from his 2nd wife, Lucy Hughes.

I have one of those "genealogists hunches" that John is the grandson of Owen who is mentioned in Owen's Will.

I am also interested in finding out when this family first came to America and from where. In his Will, he mentions leaving to his eldest son William a shilling of Old England which leads me to believe he came from England. Just
hunches - sometimes these hunches turn out to be nothing more than wishful thinking out of desperation to find connections.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Comments: Folks, with the viruses running rampant, Bruce has a valid point. These days it's not even safe to open attachments from friends.
Please set your virus scanner to scan any e-mail you may send, and any that you receive. I, like Bruce, NEVER, EVER open attachments from addresses I don't recognize. As an extra precaution, if I send an attachment, I ALWAYS send a first message advising my friends that an attachment is coming, what it contains & note that it has been scanned prior to being sent. I've asked my friends to do the same when sending something special to me.
If you don't have a virus protection program, do yourself & your friends a favor & don't open or send any attachments, and if you use Outlook Express for your e-mail, turn off the preview function.
Let's all be very careful & do what we can to spoil the fun of these people who have nothing better to do with their lives than create havoc or damage to the computers of the innocent.
I'm stepping down from the soapbox now. Thanks for your
attention. Enjoy the trek, Judy.
