| Comments: | It's now March 2011 and I have been to probably 18 of the last 24 Stealing Dan gigs at the Bulls Head in Barnes, London, despite the fact that I live in Portsmouth. The next one is April 5th, 2011 and I will be there once again. These guys are exceptional players. They are usually a 10 or 11 piece, and as they are professional performers, if the line-up ever does change one month (as it often does), as they play from sheet music, there is never a drop in the amazing quality of their performance. People sometimes wrongly have a fixed view about the music of Steely Dan, and it is often based from an experience of one hit single such as Haitian Divorce. NO one track is representative of the band or their music. The repertoire is an eclectic mix of so many genres. Every person I have ever taken to one of these gigs, has enjoyed it immensely, and has been astounded at what they have seen. If you can't make April they are there on the 1st Tuesday of every month except August. If you are a fan of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen, I would urge you to go and see Stealing Dan, and please add to their guestbook in order to spread the word. You won't regret it! |

What can i say? Have just seen your gig at the Bulls Head, Barnes and have been literally "BLOWN AWAY"by a band who in my opinion, sums up just what is great about live music, and the hard slog and passion that each individual contributes to making such a fantastic sound.Chris,I first saw you at a gig in Hampton where you were gigging as KC and the SOUL REVUE AND remember going home feeling that i had experienced something quite special.Keith Murphy is such a talented bass guitarist and a very funny guy whose impersonation of Stevie Wonder had me and my partner in stitches. I arranged tonite at Bulls Head with a few of my friends who love their "LIVE MUSIC"and know that they came away feeling that they had experienced a "unique talent".You and your music, whether its playing to a pub full of people who will only remember you as a "hangover" or to an audience who will go home appreciating you as a finely tuned Shiraz, you have managed to convert me to a fan "drunk"on your talent. Long may you continue to create the sounds that make people go home with smiles on their faces. All the best and see you at next available gig....... Warney n Carole...... |

Check them out and hope that they play their versions of 'Do it again', 'Deacon Blue' and Cousin Dupree' which are as good if not better than the originals. Lets hope that they bring out another CD soon--hint hint- and include these three songs. Keep 'doing it again' each month guys. Looking forward to tonights gig Ian |

| Comments: | Just seen the note on the Dandom Digest and decided to have a look. Ever since I saw "The Dan" at Roseland in September, I have been having withdrawal symptoms. The trip acroos the pond was well worth every penny and seeing them play in the USA 3 times in four days was exceptional.
I now need some more live Dan music and will be looking you guys up very soon. A trip to London is nothing compared to what mileage I did last September. Chris |

| Comments: | Saw the band last year at the Bull's Head. I was (unexpectedly) very impressed - was (still am) sceptical that anyone can cover SD's material in a live situation with anything approaching decency.
Particularly impressed with Keith Murphy's bass playing and vocals. I'm sure I recognise him from 30-odd years ago. Is he from Bromley, Kent? |

I am also very interested in the whole concept of tribute bands, and I will be coming to a Barnes gig soon to review and possibly speak to you for a book I am trying to get off the ground about the countries leading tribute bands. In principle, Would you grant me an brief interview at one of your gigs?
Thanks Peter Ferber Bury St Edmunds Suffolk |

| Comments: | One of the questions that gets asked most about the band is whether they are going to play anywhere else other than the Bulls Head in Barnes.
Unfortunately, it comes down to the hard economics of running a band this size. Most pubs that have a music room are not able to just make their money on the bar trade, and want to charge a band for using the room (from £100 to £200 or more). Some have a policy of putting a couple of their men on the door at a charge (maybe £50/60 per head), and/or charging for hire of their p.a equipment and/or taking a slice of the door money. So a band can end up paying a couple of hundred quid for the privilege of playing before any bums are on seats. SD's music is certainly not mainstream enough to guarantee a good audience at an untried venue, so with a modest crowd of say 50/60 people, the band could end up playing for something like £20 each. So you can see why they are reluctant to go further afield and incur higher travelling costs. However, any recommendations of enlightened venues with band-friendly policies, good access for equipment transfer and a good chance of a decent audience would be seriously entertained. Jonathan |
