| comments: I like Kaoru just fine. I think she's a good match for Kenshin as he is now. When Kenshin was younger Tomoe was right for him because she kinda humanized him from the killing machine he'd become. Then he accidentally killed her and eleven years passed before he met Kaoru. By that time, he was a man and had done his grieving. Kaoru's nothing like Tomoe and that's why she's good for Kenshin because, she's the opposite. I think it would be unhealthy for Kenshin to fall for a woman who was just like his dead love and Kaoru's so fresh and young, and hey, a woman who can wield a sword! What more could a wandering swordsman want?
And of course it's funny as hell when she beats on Kenshin, Yahiko and Sano. Of course she can't cook. She didn't have a mother to teach her how and has really only had to cook for herself since her dad died, though how she can eat her own cooking is beyond me. But I bet that once she married Kenshin she learned how to cook better. And Yahiko and Sano both need to keep their mouths shut and not comment on the food since they're getting it for free and she works her ass off to cook for them. Still it's nice when Kenshin does the cooking and gives her a day off. |

Hello. Oh my, you have a great site here. I´m a Kaoru fan as well. I just think she’s everything. But I don’t really agree with you about Tomoe in some way. I just adore Tomoe, but as I’ve said, I love Kaoru. I was reading your opinion of Megumi, and there you wondered if Megumi had said that Kaoru could not replace Tomoe´s place, or if Megumi meant that Kaoru wasn’t at the same position of Tomoe. Well, is the second option. I’m from Brazil, and here we have the manga all translated. As the special edition, such as Kaden and Hiden. And since I have my Japanese grandfather, he always helps me with that kind of thing. Megumi said that Kaoru wasn’t in Tomoe´s position. Before she said that, Megumi asked Kaoru if she would die as Tomoe did. Kaoru answers that she wouldn’t, because if she did, she would only make Kenshin suffer. And Megumi goes and says that she didn’t get Tomoe´s reasons. Any way, I don’t know if you got it, but the thing is, Megumi didn’t mean that Kaoru could not replace Tomoe, what she truly said was that if Kaoru wouldn’t die for Kenshin, then, she had not understood Tomoe´s reason to do it so. In the Kenshin Kaden it says: Kaoru, Megumi and Tsubame go to sleep, without saying a word. But they have a hard time to get to sleep, and they begin to talk about what they had just heard. (Kenshin´s Past). Kaoru says that she understands Tomoe´s feelings, but the she wouldn’t die for Kenshin. Hearing that, Megumi says to Kaoru that she didn’t really get Tomoe´s feelings. And that’s it. Megumi didn’t say about Kaoru being a replacement. That’s really idiot to say, and Megumi would not say such a thing. Even because, Megumi knows that Kaoru´s the reason for Kenshin to keep it. In the end, she says that Kenshin has chosen Kaoru. Not her (Megumi), nor Tomoe. And after that, she says that the best thing that can repair Kenshin´s scar(she means, fix his being), is the smile that only Kaoru can provide. Now, if you people have anything left to discuss.. Well, have it your way. I’m really off that because I’m a person attached to the facts. The facts are really clear to me. I hope I have explained that 'mess' (That oh so wrong translation.). | comments: Hi, i just wanna say how much i LOVE your site!! Which is weird b/c i usually go for the sites with the most downloadables or images or wallpapers, you get the idea. WEll, your site has basically none of those, but i still love it! I like reading your opinions and hey, we agree on so much regarding the characters of RK.
I also LOVE Kaoru! She's by far my fave character, next to Kenshin that is. *sigh* Kenshin!! He's so perfect! I never reallly went gaga over an anime character before, but Kenshin is an exception. He's just soo HOT and cool. I mean he can be badass AND sweet AND funny AND he can cook. He would make one perfect husband. lol, oh wait, i'm supposed to comment about Kaoru. Right....well, the reason i love Kaoru is because she's so caring and her sense of justice is so strong. She does not compromise her morals for anyone. And she's very brave. I mean, going to fight thugs by herself in order to rescue a boy who she knew nothing about except that he called her ugly. That takes guts and heart. And Kaoru and Kenshin fits soo perfectly together, like two pieces in a puzzle. They compliment each other perfectly. Kenshin needs a woman in his life who can steer him in the right direction, who can keep his battousai status in check, and Kaoru is the one. Plus, they're just so cute together. It makes me giddy just to watch their cute little interactions. And who cares about their age difference. To girls, older guys are hot, and i'm sure guys agree that younger girls are also hot, so there we go. To sum it up Kaoru and Kenshin are soo much cuter together than other anime characters i see out there. Their relationship is more on the subtle side, which is just how i like it. I mean, i may really want to see K and K have kissing scenes or more physical contact with each other, but i'm kinda glad that they don't. It makes their coupling more interesing. Cuz after they kiss, what else? More kissing? Their relationship keeps us guessing. Unlike Miaka and Tomahome. I really liked them together, until they became all lovey dovey! IT got soooo OLD and annoying. Yeah,i know they really love each other, but enough drama! NEways no more babbling from me. Keep up the site! And update. |

| comments: wow, what can i say...you're such a dedicated fan of our racoon-girl. your essaya were really interesting and you make such good points. i havent read them all mind, but dont forget to point out the coolest kaoru action in manga. the one where she and misao fight this transvestite, one of the ten swords of shishio. she was amazing, the battle was amazing and she really shone, defeating the guy/girl with a broken boken (with the help of misao). she was sharp enough to spot her opponents weak spot and not just the physical ones. after all, they (misao,kaoru,Transvestite) were on the same love boat! ^_~' and you have to point out her great ability to make intelligent and useful comments about the fights and style. she's very very knowledgeable. i would be lost without her commentating.

Start of another rant: I don't get why Yahiko is always treated as the better fighter than Kaoru! I think he sucks at kenjutsu (*hides from Yahiko fans*) and he's a brat too. I also think that Kaoru is MUUCH much more important to Kenshin then Tomoe. KEnshin "supposedly" loved Tomoe when he was a hitokiri, but that was whn he was 15, and that "love" would have probably died. Heh, I also thought Yahiko was such an ungrateful brat when he left Kenshin and Kaoru after he got the sakabatou lol. " How much do you see Misao fighting? Megumi never enters a fight at all, and the one time Tomoe tries she gets her fool self killed." for some reason I laughed when I read that "the one time Tomoe tries she gets her fool self killed" oro.... i think sessha is going crazy. | comments: I like Kaoru. I think Kaoru is more beautiful than Tomoe, and she is sweet when she smiles a lot. I have tears when Kaoru died in manga volume 24(fake dead), but emotionless when Tomoe died. I don't hate Tomoe, but I don't care much about her either. She is just an background secondary supporting female character like Misao, Megumi and Yumi. One thing that I like to see is a teacher-student love between Kaoru and Yutaro.

Kaoru is so much better than Tomoe and besides she loves Kenshin alot and in the beginning she told Kenshin that she doesn't care about Kenshin's past and she takes him for who he his. I also think that Tomoe would never be able to say that to Kenshin even if ehe was alive. Kaoru is someone that Kenshin coulkd never survive without, even if this is just a show I take this thing really seriously. Tomoe alredy had a fiancee so i dont know why you people like her. She just married Kenshin to prove that he was really Battosai. Kaoru has alot of guts to Say I love you to Kenshin, they were together longer than Kenshin and Tomoe and i dont really consider them as a couple and besides Kaoru knows how to fight. She is really generous and compasssionate and loves Kenshin alot. More things happen between them than Kenshin and Tomoe

I had a thought while reading the part about Megumi saying that Kaoru isn't a replacement for Tomoe...well I haven't seen the manga to really justify this, but if the scenario I'm imagining is correct, then I believe Megumi is right. I mean, I wouldn't want to be a replacement for anybody in my love one's life, I certainly won't want to remind him of his ex... I would want to be someone he really cares for, for who I am and not because I simply filled a void in his life, or perhaps because he sees his ex through me-meaning he still wants her and not really me...that would be painful. That was why I applaud the way Watsuki-san portrayed the two, a doormat and a girl bursting with life. GOOD CONTRAST between them right? But if Megumi meant that Kaoru isn't the right woman for Kenshin, then I say "BURN THE FOXY WITCH!" Anyway, I really enjoyed viewing your site. More Power to you! |

| comments: First off, I’d like throw in a comment on Megumi’s much-debated statement that Kaoru is "no replacement for Tomoe." Whether or not she mean to be hurtful (Megumi-san doesn’t usually concern herself too much over whose feelings she tramples) she does have a point. Kaoru is not Tomoe’s replacement. The boy who loveD Tomoe is not the same Kenshin who loveS Kaoru. Kaoru cannot replace Tomoe, nor, had she been born ten years earlier and been in Kyoto at the time, would she have WANTED to. Kaoru would’ve pitied the troubled little eighteen-year-old Kenshin, but she wouldn’t have loved that Kenshin the way that she loves the grown-up Kenshin. Kaoru loves Kenshin for the person he has become – warm, gentle and virtuous. The Kenshin that Kaoru loves has changed so deeply and so radically that the boy who loved Tomoe, while still a part of him, has very very little in common with him. Were the adult Kenshin to meet a girl precisely like Tomoe – cold, expressionless, able to watch someone being killed and let herself be spattered with their blood without the slightest emotion – I CANNOT imagine him falling in love with her, even IF he never met Kaoru. Being kind to her, yes. But then, Kenshin’s nice to everyone, rather like Kaoru.
Kaoru has warmth and kindness against Tomoe’s ice, and forgiveness and compassion to Tomoe’s vengeance. Let’s not forget that up until the last possible moment, Tomoe fully intended to kill Kenshin. The girl had problems. To even think herself able to take another life - I don’t care how grief stricken she was - is a sharp contrast to Kaoru’s steadfast ideals about the value of human life. So Kaoru is NOT Tomoe’s replacement. She’s Kenshin’s equal instead of an ice queen on a pedestal. In a generous frame of mind, when I think objectively about Tomoe’s situation and I don’t have to be exposed to her utter creepiness, I’m willing to admit that I pity Tomoe-san. But pity is all I can muster. Kaoru, on the other hand, I admire. Even at her worst she is at least likable – if I met someone like her, I’d probably find her to be a good, kind person, and not run away in fear (as I would if I met someone like Tomoe). And whether Megumi meant it or not, she paid Kaoru a well-deserved compliment. heh heh... that turned a little long-winded, didn't it? Is rather good to get it out of my system, at any rate. But there it is.... reasoning from someone who quite agrees with you! Aanyway... What an awesome site! Your writing made me laugh out loud, and I stayed up till the wee hours poking around the site. Thanks also for the perfect blend of conciseness and detail in your HIGHLY entertaining summary of the story (particulary the Enshi story line, as I had a rough idea but was still hunting for manga scans and translations) and all your amusing insights. It's always great to find that there are other people who got the same things out of the series that you did - not just "yeah, there were some pretty cool fights..." I was literally laughing out loud at your "title" for Katsu, your methods to get the reader to remember Master Hiko, and far too many other wonderfully hilarious turns of phrase to mention individually. I think the only major point upon which we disagree is that I hold firm to the belief that Saitoh needs to be kicked in the face. Really a worthy tribute to a wonderful character in a wonderful series. Overall, an entertainingly excellent site! |
