We do have a tiny bit more information on indentured servant status of Francis Suffare Whitmer when he originally came to Pennsylvania before breaking his indenturship and bolting to Virginia (West Virginia after the war). We also find indications that he was born in St Gallen Swizterland. But the two interested Whitmers probably already knew all this from the web... |

His father was Jacob,his father was Joseph . Joseph Whitmer,his brother Jacob and their father John Witmer came from Lancaster Co. Pa sometime in the very early 1800's They were acompnied by Christian Over who was married to Jacob and Joseph's sister. I would like to go back further if any one has more information. My fathers research proved Witmer was the corect Swiss German spelling of the name which the English have somtimes spelled Whitmore on various records. |

I am looking for the family of Samuel Cramer. He married my gr. grandmother who was named Matilda Cramer, They lived around Florence, MO. She was Cherokee, and so the story goes walked the trail of tears.He was German. I found a marriage record, but can find any other proof. Her daughter was mary Ann Cramer,(my grandmother),who married first a John Baughman in MO. I heard morgon Co. He was killed in a mine accident.She then married my grandfather, Thomas Franklin Gilbert, who had been married before and had several children. The counties they lived in in MO, were Morgon, Pettis, Howard, and Holtand pobably several more. I've been searching for this Matilda Harris Cramer, for many years. My grandfather was Sam b.1881 and his father was Selesteen, and his father was Selestine, and we are of Little Sully's clan in West Virginia. Grandpa sam came to N Dak in 1906 and on to Dawson county, Montana in 1920. He had 11 children and I have 35 cousins. We are of the Whitmer cemetery family in W Virginia which has a stone reading Suffare Whitmer b Switzerland 1795. I have eight brothers and sisters. Great grandpa Selesteen had connections to the Mormon church in 1890 but his actual membership in the faith is in dispute. My Uncle Tuffy and Aunt Santa both joined the Mormon church in their adult lives and have siblings who are church members. Our connection to Peter Whitmer is clouded, but that does not keep Mormons from singling us out for missionary visits and looks of awe. I found this page on the Dawson County, MT genealogy page. I am 57, never married, grew up in Wolf Point, MT, have drilled water wells, am a geologist, spent three years ijn the Middle East as a consultant, and presently teach Science at Jordan, MT.
