Fort Dodge recalled RabVac 3 TF serial number 873113A rabies vaccine May 25, 2006 after a vaccinated dog contracted rabies (The Charlotte Observer http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/business/14786163.htm; http://www.dogsadversereactions.com/RabvacRecall.html). This batch of vaccine "was released into the veterinary market in November 2004 and expires June 29, 2006." Concerned owners can call Fort Dodge at 800-533-8536. Wyoming's State Vet Lab posted the recall letter at http://wyovet.uwyo.edu/Diseases_2006.asp. For a copy of Aubert's 1992 French challenge study demonstrating dogs to be immune to a rabies challenge 5 years after vaccination or Vascellari's study documenting fibrosarcomas in dogs at presumed rabies vaccine injection sites, e-mail me at ledgespring@lincoln.midcoast.com . PERMISSION GRANTED TO POST AND CROSS-POST THIS MESSAGE Kris L. Christine Founder, Co-Trustee The Rabies Challenge Fund www.RabiesChallengeFund.org Two world-renowned giants of veterinary vaccine research -- Dr. W. Jean Dodds of Hemopet and Co-Trustee of The Rabies Challenge Fund www.RabiesChallengeFund.org and Dr. Ronald Schultz of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine -- have volunteered their time to ensure that critical 5 and 7 year rabies challenge studies are conducted in the United States. The studies will be financed by The Rabies Challenge Fund Charitable Trust, a tax-exemption organization founded by Maine pet vaccine disclosure advocate Kris L. Christine in 2005, and will be performed by Dr. Schultz. The University of Wisconsin has waived its 48% overhead fee for the studies. The concurrent challenge studies will determine the duration of immunity conveyed by the canine rabies vaccine, with the goal of extending the state-mandated interval for boosters to 5, and then to 7 years. According to Dr. Dodds, “This is one of the most important projects in veterinary medicine. It will benefit all dogs by providing evidence that protection from rabies vaccination lasts at least 5 years, thereby avoiding unnecessary revaccination with its attendant risk of debilitating adverse reactions. " Scientific data indicate that vaccinating dogs against rabies every three years, as most states require, is unnecessary. Studies have shown the duration of protective immunity as measured by serum antibody titers against rabies virus to persist for seven years post-vaccination, and results of a 1992 French challenge study led by Michel Aubert demonstrated dogs were immune to rabies five years after vaccination. Researchers believe the rabies vaccine causes the most and worst adverse reactions in animals and concur that it should not be given more often than necessary to maintain immunity. Adverse reactions to rabies vaccination can include autoimmune diseases affecting the thyroid, joints, blood, eyes, skin, kidney, liver, bowel and central nervous system; anaphylactic shock; aggression; seizures; epilepsy; and fibrosarcomas at injection sites. Dr. Schultz states “[s]howing that a vaccine for rabies can provide 5 or preferably 7 years of immunity would have great significance not only in controlling rabies but more importantly in reducing the adverse vaccine reactions that can occur in dogs and cats after vaccination." He was named for his Grandfather Dr. Fred Denkewalter and his Great Great Great Grandfather Dr. Frederick Denkewalter. We hope in the near future to come and stay at this beautiful Inn especially when the kids are a bit older and can be awed by the connection to their family history. It was nice to see your mention of it and the Denkewalter name. I've been searching thru Ebay to buy old postcards or maps or photos of the inn back when it was a sanitarium. I hope you will let me know if you should ever run across anything like this at an antique store or flea market. Thanks again, Gabi |

| Comments: | I was watching a call-in tv show where a guest historian was discussing William Henry Harrison. A caller asked about the Ten O'clock Treaty. The historian had not heard the phrase, but he described the treaty with Little Turtle. I couldn't believe the caller had thought up the name, so I searched the Web. Your site popped up (the only one hit for "Ten o"clock Treaty").
I live in Battle Creek and we have difficulty finding the history of the name. People didn't write the reasons for names in those days. Probably too many things needed naming. Your site is very well organized, informative, and creative. Y ou seem to have a nce life going for you. Good luck on the couselor's license. Ken Glaser |
