| Comments: | I was given a TMNT Archie comic for my 9th birthday. It was the second comic in the 'Moon Eyes Saga' with Ninjara. This was well after the Green Team was established as my all time favourite thing, that's why the comic was given to me as a present. 10 years later, I've lost the comic, but if anyone has any information on where I can buy one, then please let me know.

Dear "Kaybea," Hello! Thank you g-r-e-a-t-l-y for reading this. Yes, like you, I am a tremendous fan of those "Heroes in a Half-Shell" myself. In fact, TMNT stuffed-plushes & action-figures from 10-15 years ago, as well as both Archie AND Mirage Studios' lines of "TMNT" comics, a-l-l make up a BIG part of my "furry-fandom" collection. (More about w-h-y, towards the end.) Speaking of licensed merchandise...here's why I E-mailed you. For the last two weekends, while visiting Tuscaloosa, 45 miles south of us (and home of Univ. of Ala's "Crimson Tide"--yyeeEEEE-freakin'-HAH fer th' South, an' fer White Ree-publik'ns!)...I have noticed stuffed, plush "Turtles" in the Namco video-arcade at University Mall. Ah!...but these are not EXACTLY like the stuffed Turtles of 10-15 years ago. These were better-proportioned and more cartoony! My mouth drooled...but, alas! each costs 1000 tickets, and I am NO videogame wizard in spite of my funny-animal videogame titles at home! Can YOU (or ANY fans out there) tell me where I can buy them? Playmates Toys does not make these, and Ace/Acme/Play-by-Play is temporarily reconstructing their own Web-site. ANY information that you can reply to my Web-address, I will GLADLY appreciate. Second: I have SO MANY issues of the Archie-published series, from about 10-14 years ago...but I do have a few "beefs" about them. (Yes, and that Westinghouse Broadcasting "kidvid" cartoon...and the theatrical movies, too....) (1.) Some were illustrated by Mike Kazaleh; an outstandingly GOD-GIFTED animation draughtsman (It's Kazaleh's direction that you've seen on recent Trix Cereal and Post Pebbles cereal commercials, for example.) But look how Mr. Kazaleh "paid God back" during mid-1980s: He wrote & illustrated a-d-u-l-t, funny-animal comics in the 1980s, at the otherwise praiseworthy Fantagraphics. (Fantagraphics protects & respects creators' copyrights, and has published some DARNED good scripts & artwork since 1976...possibly the finest in the alternative/independent comics field.) But, as I am a Christian first (and a cartoonist/writer second)...as an uncle of eight wonderful kids...I am v-e-r-y uncomfortable with even R-rated sight gags, profanities, nudity, &c.--being clothed in a draughtsmanship style that APPEALS TO kids. Second "beef": The writers at Archie, Murakami/Wolf/Swenson Animation, and New Line Cinema--just didn't make the Turtles f-u-n-n-y enough! So Master Shredder & the Foot-Clan invaded the Big Apple. Biiiig deal! Ethiopia had just recovered from a famine...Yugoslavia disintegrated into civil war...and Saddam Hussein made plans to invade Kuwait...and Democratic Sen. Richard Gephardt (running for Presidency in 1988) advised farmers to grow blueberries & Belgian endive. WHERE were the TURTLES to save the Earth? Let alone to explain or relate to a child's (or middle-schoolers') concerns as beautifully as does Nickelodeon, today...or the Disney Channel...or Cartoon Network's "Cartoon-Cartoon"! (Well, what can we expect from a publisher that actually began--even before MLJ Comics "struck gold" with Archie, in late 1941--with costumed super-poopers that ripped DC's capes & underwear off?) In contrast--for b-e-t-t-e-r scripts than children had to tolerate, some 10-15 years ago--why not give a retrospective of MIRAGE Studios' ORIGINAL Turtles? Why not review Mirage's current issues? Their plots have been VASTLY smarter. And the artwork!--especially by animators Hedden & McWeeney--my God! your Web-site visitors have missed a t-r-e-a-t! Now THESE DEFINE the publishing field that has given us titles like "Elfquest," Fantagraphics' "Love & Rockets," "Cerebus the Aardvark," &c. Please forgive me for going on-and-on about the marketed-&-licensed Turtles of the past...the Turtles aimed at the sort of four-year-olds I once taught art & music to. It's just that: (A.) Funny-animal-humanoid superheroes are my VERY FAVORITE genre. And (as a collector of antique, chrome emblems & model cars),I just hate to see AOL/Time/Warner, Fox/News Corp., Vivendi/Universal, &c., churn 'em out like, say, pre-packaged Chevrolet bodies with Pontiac/Olds/Buick/GMC grilles & trunks, you know? Why couldn't you-know-which motorcycle mice from Mars, or Martin L. Griem's "Thunderbunny" comic-book of the 1980s, or (of all people) Disney TV (i.e., the animated "Mighty Ducks") and Warner Bros. TV (i.e., "Road Rovers," whose Web-site I belong to)...w-h-y couldn't any of 'em achieve what other creators have done in o-t-h-e-r genres? Fortunately, fans of superhero parodies aren't completely neglected. Hey, we've still got "Earthworm Jim," "Battletoads," and two of the craziest: "Freakazoid" and "Powdered Toast Man" (from "Ren and Stimpy"). I have HIGH hopes for b-e-t-t-e-r scripts from Fox Kids' Network...t-h-i-s Fall of 2003. Second, I collect "furry-fandom" stuffed-plushies, comics, videogames, action-figures, and an "Animation Magazine" subscription, all for a v-e-r-y good reason: I'm a studio artist & commercial-graphics artist (and amateur musician) full-time. (And a Christian, soc. work volunteer, part-time). So. guess what fields I hope to enter after graduate school.... (Other than auto design, that is!)
