It is truly so very beautiful what you two have together. I found your story over the ICQ wedding pages and I think it is the most beautiful one I have ever read. a little more courage to keep hanging on! I'm from NZ and met a Danish man online nearly 3 years ago. We fell in love very quickly even though like you I kept wondering how this could happen, was it real. I was planning to visit the UK and decided to alter things to go via Denmark so we could meet. Boy that was sooooo scary! Like you Lynette, I kept thinking What do I really know of this guy? Where is he taking me? Why am I doing something that seems so stupid, against every warning my family ever gave me? But somewhere deep inside I just felt completely secure with him. I only had 3 weeks in Europe, and was supposed to spend them all in the UK looking for work, but ended up spending all except 8 days with him. It was so wonderful :-). When I left he called me at friends' houses and talked until the phone timed out, and when I got back home we phoned and chatted non-stop, wishing so much we could be together again. He said my visit was the best time he'd ever had in his life. But I was under lots of stress fighting custody and property battles with a very angry ex (we separated before I met Ras but he still managed to drag him in) as well as find work and look after my 2 kids, while still recovering from a virus that had caused me to stop working 6 months before, and trying to keep up a relationship with somebody in a timezone 12 hours away meant neither of us was getting much sleep - so things started getting fractious. To cut a long story short, he fell into another relationship IRL but didn't tell me until after I'd finally managed to move to the UK a year later. I knew something wasn't right but assumed we'd work it out when we got together again. He came to visit me for 2 weeks which were really horrible and I didn't know why, so after he went home I kept asking what was wrong. Finally he told me, and I said I never wanted to hear from him again. But somehow we've kept in contact. He said he'd just got really scared at the thought of leaving his friends and family and moving to the other side of the world to become a father to 2 kids he'd never met, in a country that didn't speak his first language. While I understand that, I myself am not worried at the idea of moving to Denmark, where I don't speak ANY of the language, so I found it hard to accept. We had a lot of chats that would start out fine, the same familiar funny clever talks on everything under the sun, but too often he would send me a kiss or a hug or (to begin with) say he still loved me, and I would just lose it. I said some very nasty things, my hurt at what he'd done was so deep, and gradually our chats became fewer and more impersonal. I returned to NZ about 8 months ago, and suddenly at Christmas we had a chat that seemed like the early ones. He couldn't log off, he kept saying he had to go but he didn't ...lol. I kept myself in check, but the next chat was the same, and then he sent a msg asking how I was, really, and I just knew he was trying to court me again. I got very scared, and thought a lot about what I wanted, and decided that yes I did still want him. So I asked him straight out what he wanted from me. Just friends he said. That was a little disappointing, but after everything else it was ok. I met somebody IRL and started dating, and found things were going pretty fast. Ras was still sending me kisses and saying he wanted to talk every so often but we hardly ever actually connected. Eventually I sent him a letter saying I'd met somebody else and was trying to decide what to do. After a few days thought he sent back a disjointed letter saying he hated the idea of me being with somebody else but had loved everything we had together - and everything we WILL have together - and wishing me happiness with the other guy! My guess is that he really does love me, but can't see any possibility of us ever being together. So he can't keep away from me, but neither will he commit to anything. But one amazing thing that I've got through all of this, is a really strong trust that God is looking after me. I don't have to worry and push to try to sort things out, I just have to be open to whatever possibilities God has for me and everything will work out. So whether we do end up together, or with other people, or on our own, it doesn't worry me anymore because I know whatever it is will be the right thing. If I'd known beforehand what I'd have to go through in the past 4 years, I'd never in a million years have left my husband - but looking back now I can see the hand of God in every decision and know that everything I did was the right thing for everybody. And I've even finally accepted (after knowing it all along) that Ras needed to find somebody else IRL to prove some things to himself as well. Will he ever accept that I understand that though? It brought back a lot of fond memories for me although I can hardly recognize Kuala Lumpur now. I left KL in 1982 and have only been back once in 1990. Things have changed so much (for the better) obviously.
