| Comments: | My line spells the surname Herns; however Ebenezer s/o Thomas and Hannah Anderson or Huffman was using the Hurns spelling at some point in time during his Kent Co. stay in Kent Co. Ebenezer is buried in Craford Cemetery as HURNS, one of his wives in Maple Leaf another. Ebenezer had a son Thomas, born circa 1854 who married Lillie Ballard of Dover Twp. Lillie is listed later census as widow and she died in 1927 and buried in Dover Twp. cemetery. I think Ebenezer may have abandoned Lillie shortly after marriage by coming into US, possibly Missouri as a son Thomas Ebenezer Hurns is in h/h of Aunt Alice Campbell at 1900 Detroit Michigan census. This Thomas Ebenezer Hurns died in 1989 and his Social Security (SS Form5)Card Application form list his parents as Thomas Hurns and Rosa Rauh. Anyone in Kent Co. familiar with this Hurns/Hearns family? |

| Comments: | Wilson Jesse Thomas is my great grandfather. He was born on September 29, 1875. The only thing we know about him comes from his homestead papers and stories. He was married in 1909 in Saskatchewan. I cannot find a birth record in the Ontario Archives for him. His homestead record states and that he was born in Ontario and that he came from Chatham.
The tragedy about him is that he worked hard on his farm and also as for the CPR. According to family tradition he was killed on the job in a railcar accident at Wynyard, Sask, leaving a pregnant wife and two children around 1914. His wife remarried and the children lost all memory of their birth father. I inquired with CPR, who passed me on to Library and Archives Canada for any accident information but they could not find anything. I am attempting to find out who his parents were and if there are any relatives left. |

Park, who was a teacher and principal, we believe in the black free school in Kent, Bothwell and Chatham parts of Ontario, Canada...His wife is Sarah Jane Kane Park...both being from from Armagh, Ireland earlier and emigrating with their children...to Nova Scotia and then the Ontario area of Canada...One of their sons changed his name to Victor Lauriston after writing a book, Romantic Kent which is supposed to contain biographical passages about James Park...one of his sons, William John Park married a Mills who emigrated with her mother from Scotland...We don't know if Mary Jane's father was deceased when they emigrated...Sarah Kane Park died of a fever along with several of the children and is buried in Maple Leaf Cemetery...she apparently lived on the farm with some of the children that they had and James married her nurse, a French-Canadian girl according to family and moved with William and his wife and some of the other family to Kingman, Kansas...Anyone who can confirm, is related, or can give me more information, would be thrilled to hear from them... |

Five children listed then. He had Crown Land in Howard. 300 acres. His first son William James, had a son William W., who had a son William Henry, who only had three girls! My mother was the first girl.
William James Desmond moved family to Harsen's Island, MI in 1850. His wife's name was Testamiar Brundage. Believe that Timothy (1770) is buried on the Island, unmarked grave. Unknown to William or his parents Augusta had concieved and was pregnant when their marrige was annuled. She had the child Eva May Taylor in the Ridgetown area Sept 23 1912. Benjamin was born in Luxulyan, Cornwall England 4 May 1833 and Emma was born Dec. 1843 in Norfork England. They moved to the 3rd concession Lot 14 Zone Twp. after 1875 from the Blackwell ON area. We do not know where Benjamin died or is buried. Emma is supposed to be buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Ridgetown, ON.
Their children were, Charles M, Mary A.M. m. William Elsie, Rebecca m. Walter Miller, Albert, Jennie m. Lester McMullin, George S., Hiram F. We would like to learn of any of the James family members that still reside in Kent County Ontario or anyone who may know of any of this family's members. We have much research to do on this branch of the family so any help will be gladly accepted. We are planning to go to Kent County and do on site research in the next couple of weeks (June/July 2002) We need as many leads as we can before we go to give us some ideas. |

Sister Clara married Edwin Longman and lived in Chicago.Their oldest daughter was Clara Delitia Valentina who married Edward Stinson of Dawn Township.Son Edwin Adnam Longman married Matilda Jane Marsh who lived and farmed in Kent County. edwin and Clara's youngest daughter was Evleyn Beatrice who was a sculptress of some reknown. According to family legend when Clara died in 1880 she was sent to live with one of Clara's sisters who were Eliza Ann Adnam was born Oct 16,1837. She married Henry Smith. Emma Adnam b Sept9, 1835 married James Pavey.
It has taken me some time to get all the family links straight, and I would like to hear from anyone with any info about Clara's two sisters. |

| Comments: | My grandfather was Cecil Frank Shearing who was born in Mull which I understand is in the Township of Harwich. His parents were Frank Shearing and Sarah Shearing (maiden name Gray. I believe I found the three of them in the 1901 census for Raleigh Township, Cecil was 1 year at the time.
