Your pictures of the Indian elephants are fabulous! They helped to bring reading alive for my students. I teach students in need of extra support in Reading, and have used an article about the elephants of Punnathur Kota from Highlights Magazine (Just For Elephants). I follow up with an article about using the well trained, Indian elephants to test whether elephants can run (Fast Elephants). I had a variety of pictures for the students to see of the festivals and a few of the mahouts. Then, a student requested to see the temple, and I stumbled across your pictures. Thank you for allowing my students the chance to view so much of a part of the world some of them never knew existed. You have helped make reading less difficult for fourth graders who thought that reading was boring, and visualizing was too abstract. Now they have a point of reference, and new knowledge to build upon. Now they know more about elephants, but more about another part of the world. How can we educate them? Whats their problem? Are they Perverts? How can we stop this criminals? please Gentlemen, think twice and make a better social life in Kerala. Dear Sir, MAKARAVILAKKU FESTIVAL 2005 The Thamaramkulangara Sree Dharmasastha Temple, is located in the heart of Tripunithura in Ernakulam Dt, the land of temples. The presiding deity is Lord Dharmasastha. This is the major Ayyappa temple in Ernakulam District. The annual festival of this temple is usually celebrated during the 2nd week of January, the main day being the first of Makaram every year. The day is known as ‘MAKARAVILAKKU’. | Comments: | Excellent snaps.as an attempt at being a photojournalist, u have fared well-looks as good as the KTDC manuals.as for the captions, the subtle hints at the socio-economic issues faced by kerala today, are not lost on a careful reader.the vadakkunaathan temple towers surrealistically above all.though kathakali and theyyam weren't there, the absence is not conspicuos.malayalees based in Kochi/TVM may find their landmarks missing.considering it was done on a short trip home, these small issues dont matter.Except for arundhati roy's book which presents striking visuals of kerala(through words,of course); there is hardly anything which compares to this album. |

Since seeing her now famous speech on "Imperial Democracy" I have eaten through book after book of hers, as well as reading everything new I could off of her website. As I'm sure is the case with many people who come here, I feel inspired to action by her writings. I am working to fight the re-election of George Bush "the lesser" and would simply like to thank Arundhati for her role as, "Rabble-Rouser" As well as "Writer-Activist". I myself am an amateur photographer- some of my pics are online on http://photos.yahoo.com/sudhi_36 I don't have a whole lot as I shoot on slides and it is diff to scan with the slide scanner i have. About your pictures: I don't rem what I commented last time- I feel you should try to underexpose the photos and see how the results are - the colours come out vibrantly on slides/ low speed films.
