Comments:My father was a commercial artist and always had fun crafts for us kids to work on. One of my favorite memories was when he gave me a kite building book for Christmas one year and helped me build several simple but effective kites, which we flew at the beach before Memorial Day. The book went missing 30+ years ago and my dad died 6 years ago. I have always wanted to build kites again. I now have a little girl who has never met her grandfather and who is coming of age to enjoy kite flying. Thank you for this web site that will help me give my daughter the memories my dad gave me.

Comments:I wonder what is the oldest kite still flying? I remember several years ago finding one at my parents that I had bought twenty years before and had never taken out of the package. Comments:Have flown kites for many years and in varied locations along the Eastern coast from Michigan down through the Eastern shore of Maryland/Virginia (Chincoteague Island) to the Florida Keys.

My current kite collection is the usual variety of large deltas, delta konynes, long serpents, rainbow boxes, and a Cody war kite.

We currently have a permanent campsite located on a small lake and bordering a large sod farm; it is an ideal setting for kite soaring. On sunny summer days, we have continuous winds of approximately 5 mph with occasional gusts to 10 mph.

It's just a very relaxing way of enjoying the sunshine, breezes, and line tugs.

I am interested in building cell kites, potentially large ones for kite boarding.
Right now I am considering fabric types / specs

Comments:It's been many years since I built a kite. I can't remember if there is a formula for the length of the tail on a basic diamond shaped kite. i.e. is the tail twice as long as the body of the kite, the same length as the kite or what? Any ideas on this?
