| Comments: | Dear Mrs Wilhelm,
we are a mozambican film production interested in realization of a short movie based on a Damon Knight's novel. We are writing here, because we don't know how to do with that novel's rights. Can you give us any suggestion about it? thank you very much and sorry if we used your space, we didn't find another way. |

| Comments: | The Barbara Holloway series is one of the best crime series I have read. There is genuine brain activity stirred by the fascinating weaving and winding plots, the reader is kept engaged and challenged by the intricacies in the detail. There is genuine dissection of a crime matched against the legal ramification of actions. The personalities of the characters are woven in but rather than dominate they just add reality and interest. I love this author’s work. |

I am an independent filmmaker living in New York City. My producing partner and I have a great interest in adapting one of your late husband's short stories into a short film. We would love to discuss the possibility of getting the rights to do so. Would you be kind enough to contact me to discuss this matter? | Comments: | I have to say, I feel as though I'm part of the Holloway family... I've read every one of her cases - the last, Cold Case, is currently on it's way to me now! I've been searching and searching to see if maybe, possibly, I missed a case, so that it won't come to an end after this next book... but alas, it seems I will have to be patient and hope that I spend another Sunday dinner with her (and Frank, Darren and Todd, Shelley, Bailey, Alan, Alex, Dr. Minnick, Maria, Sylvia, and heck, even Lt. Hoggarth!)
I just finished A Wrongful Death - and I have to say - it was a wonderful story... so VERY suspenseful... and I would be lying if I said I wasn't reluctant to reach the end last night, on my way home from San Francisco on BART... OH! And I'm determined to spend some time up in Oregon (I am here in the SF Bay Area, Pleasanton, to be specific)... I've been into Ashlan (amazing little town) but after spending so much time there w/ Barabara, I think it sounds like a great state to explore - and I am looking forward to a roadtrip, hopefully this spring! I'm also awaiting The Price of Silence. Yet not a Holloway thriller, I know it will be just as gripping and mysterious as her tales have been! Anyway - Mrs. Wilhelm - thank you so much for introducing me to such an amazing group of people... I hope to see much more of them! Cheers, and thank you again! |

| Comments: | One day while in Goodwill, I was browsing thru the book section & came across your name & thought I'd read one of your books for the first time. "Defense for the Devil". Excellant book, but there is one problem. Page 172, last paragraph, driving north on Hwy 101 through Newport, nearly to Yachats, is IMPOSSIBLE.....Yachats is SOUTH of Newport-Walport-Yachats...check a map....I use to go there quite often.....I loved the book & plan to read more..... |

| Comments: | Note, Ms. Wilhelm, that one site guest corrects you on your use of a word, while another guest asks you to give her the title of a work you wrote! We might not be the brightest fans, but dammit, we are your fans. I think you are a very fine writer who deserves a lot more due, though you have won several distinguished awards. I have a beef with the fact that "The Chosen" isn't more widely anthologized. Its inventiveness is pretty stunning. It's vertiginous in a way that few writers can pull off this side of Borges. |

| Comments: | I have found you late in my life. Was born and lived all my life in Coos County, Oregon. I can never put one of your books down for long when I start. I have just finished Death Qualified and wondered if there was a follow-up. I have not read the books in yearly order. Naturally, after reading this book, I hoped there was a follow-up but somehow I doubt it. I am 80 and enjoy your writing. Thank you for the quality.

For the first time ever I have developed an insatiable need to devour every single book in an author's collection. I have fallen in love with Barbara Holloway & her father, and adored Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang. I'm currently working on The Deepest Water...many thanks for so many wonderful hours of reading bliss! |

| Comments: | Hello Kate Wilhelm,
For a long time I have been thinking of saying thank you to the authors whose books I enjoy most. For me, your books carry all the ingredients for an excellent read; a compelling story that is well written, with characters that come alive and a plot that hangs together. Not to mention endings that do not strain the imagination. I am an old fan - I remember reading your science fiction stories way back when... So thank you. |

| Comments: | I just read my first book by Ms Wilhelm. Normally, I only read true adventure, true crime. Since I moved to the Philippines, my book choices are limited to second-hand titles in a local mall. I picked up "Death Qualified" purely by chance. It was a well-written, intriguing and spellbinding story. I loved it. Now, to try to locate more of her books. |

| Comments: | Dear Ms. Wilhelm,
I have recently finished my first novel, although I've been writing for abou 40 years. It's set in Portland, and I'm amazed how well the book came out (as in, did I really write this?). Even my husband is impressed, and he's my toughest critic, besides me, of course. I live near Marcola, just outside of Eugene, and when I told my friends I'd finished my book, they suggested I try to contact you to ask if you could give me any help or suggestions. Thank You! | Comments: | I love the Barbara Holloway series but I was very disturbed by the most recent book I read which discussed Darren and his "interns". I am a physical therapist and have been practicing for 19 years. At no time in my memory were physical therapists trained and "certified" by other physical therapists on the job. Over the past 20 years I've seen the profession progress from a Bachelor's to Doctorate degree level. I can't remember when a student could study some 'pre-med' and then receive a "certification". PTs now spend six to seven years in college and graduate with doctorate degrees. The licensure exam is rigorous. I wish you had done your homework because that last book left a sour taste in my mouth. |

| Comments: | I have thoroughly enjoyed discovering, then reading through, first the Barbara Holloway series, then the Meiklejohn/Leidl series. However, with respect to some of the latter, I have to comment that I am not keen on scifi as a genre. As an attorney, I particularly relished Holloway's keen sensitivity, believing that too many trial attorneys abound in ego and lack in the ability to watch, listen and perceive. I sure hope you add to her anthology! |

| Comments: | Hi, Kate Wilhelm.
I recently discovered your Barbara Holloway novels and read them all in a matter of weeks. I loved the detective work and courtroom scenes. For whole hours at a time my personal troubles melted away. The characters became familiar old friends, making the novels a comforting retreat. I enjoyed Barbara's companionable yet not unconflicted relationship with her father. Barbara's struggle for justice in a skewed system, her dedicated and virtually superhuman hard work, her brilliance, and her soul-searching in work and in love made her complex and human and inspirational. Thank you for these novels. |

I also thought it interesting you used one of the lawyers in A Wongful Death to have the name of Robert Crais. I am also a fan of his mysteries. On the back of Cold Case it said, "you were writing a new novel." Is it out yet? |

| Comments: | Hello Cousin Kate,
No, I'm not being overly familiar, or kidding either.Quite the opposite, actually. Your mother was my Great-Aunt Anne, and because I liked her so much, I put a picture of her, with Uncle Jesse, in a collage (of our shared Stuteville/Meredith ancestors) in my room. It suddenly came to me that you might like to have a copy of this picture, too. I'll have to ask my mom for the original to get a decent copy, and I'll try to nail down when it was taken. From their clothing and hair, I'm guessing the 30's would be about right. Jesse, was my maternal granny's rowdy little brother, and he looks the part, but Aunt Anne looks pretty much like a much younger version of herself as I knew her. She was one of my all-time favorite relatives, because she let us slide down her (carpeted) stairs on our bellies every time we went to her house. I remember the first time I could appreciate that all the screaming and laughing and pounding the stairwell took, didn't set her back a bit. She was cool, before I knew what cool was. If you are anything like either of them, I'm sorry I never knew you. I suppose you might like a picture of your grandmother Meredith too, (you look more like a Meredith than I do). Yikes, didn't mean to send you a manuscript. Thanks for your time. Let me know if there is a better email address to use. Sue |

| Comments: | Dear Ms.Wilhelm;
You will be the first author that I have signed a guestbook for and will be able to tell them how much I enjoy their books. I started with Desperate Measures and was so hooked that I've read all of your Barbara Holloway novels (can't find Cold Case!) One of the things that make reading your novels so personal and enyoyable is being able to visiualize the area you are talking about. I live in Idaho but have lived in Oregon also. One more thing I would like to say is your books, especially the Holloway books, make me hungry just reading about what her father, Frank, or some of the other characters are cooking for her! Best regards to a wonderful person for sharing such talent with people. |

| Comments: | Are you thinking about and/or talking about "terrorism"?
I can't figure out how to question it so my questions make sense to people who believe in "just war". I'm making more than one assumption in addressing you in this way - and if I have guessed wrong about what you might think about these issues, I apologize. I would be happy to hear a response either way. |

| Comments: | I live in England now, but am a born and bred Oregonian, having lived on Mt. Hood and in Springfield. Most of the places Ms. Wilhelm refers to are places I know, including a description of one apartment complex where my oldest daughter once lived!
I have been listening to the Barbara Holloway series via audio books I download from the Clackamas County library and play while I work out or garden; once I start, I can't seem to stop! I echo someone's comment about the narrators not getting NW names right; it does grate a bit. Anna Fields is my favorite, though they are all good. I have never listened to an audio book before, and was not sure how I would like them, but I enjoy them very much. My husband and I travel the world extensively for work, and the next long trip to the US in a few weeks will be designated to introduce him to Barbara Holloway so he knows what I makes me zone out with a book on tape - he says I'm like a teenager, with headphones on, completely transfixed. He's British, but knows the area quite well, too, and I'm sure he'll enjoy them as much as I have, and I can't wait to tease him the way he's teased me! I can only hope to one day meet Kate Wilhelm; like many others, I feel as if I know her, just from reading her work. I have listened to all the Barbara Holloway books, and am now moving on to others. I hope they are all on tape, as it suits my current lifestyle. Thank you, Ms. Wilhelm, for allowing your books to be made available via library download. I would never have learned about your books otherwise. You are a fanastic writer and I find it delightful to hear stories about my 'heart home', Eugene/Springfield, which I miss so desperately! |

| Comments: | I really enjoyed your Barbara Holloway books.
I think I have read them all but would like a list. Borders and Amazon don't seem to have anything new. Is a wrongful death the last one written? Thanks |

| Comments: | I have only found you this year but I can not put your books down. I often wonder where you get your keen knowledge of law and courtroom procedures. I thoroughly enjoy your writing. It is so fresh and each story so new. I am 80, born in '29, lost my husband in 2002- retired elementary principal. We have raised three sons and I have always lived in Coos County - went to the U. of O. and taught remedial subjects in the elementary cb schools for seven years, then retired to raise our three, went back but over to the Com.
College and taught in aBE-GED-ESl at the non-reader to 4th g. level. That was so rewarding, also. I still am amazed at how you weave your stories. I find I would rather read your books that just about anything. I do hope you are in good health and I am sorry you lost your husband, too. Sincerely, Laura Wade |

| Comments: | I just finished reading, When Late the Sweet Birds Sang, and am looking on line for more of Kate Wilhelm's science fiction books without any luck. I haven't read the mystery series yet, but I might try one this summer. The science fiction just catches my fancy at present. Thanks for the really good story. |

| Comments: | Kate Wilhelm is a wonderful writer. Unfortunately, she is also a member of the Author's Guild, the organization which is trying to ban the sale of used books, and also wants to ban the text-to-speech feature of the Amazon Kindle, in both cases claiming that these are "copyright" violations. If they have their way, it will be illegal for you to read a book out loud.
This deplorable and offensive policy disgusts me. I will not purchase any author's books who is a member of this guild, unless they publicly declare that they do NOT support this effort. |

| Comments: | I have been reading your work for many years. My favorite stories are the ones about Constance and Charlie. I read them as much for the relationship as for the layered and magnetic plots. |

| Comments: | I have been reading Kate Wilhelm's work since the 1970's. As a storyteller (TO has a thriving Storytelling community here) Cambio Bay, Juniper Time and The Good Children have a particular draw for me with their elements of myth and magic. (Coyote is an old acquaintance.)
Her Barbara Holloway mysteries draw me to a beautiful part of the world I have travelled in (I have a friend in Hood River) where the sense of place is every bit a character in these stories. Death Qualified is one of the books I re-visit. |
