| Query: | I'm helping a friend try to find some long missing relatives. William Barton, his wife Ellen, and their daughter Ellen, came to Roslyn, Washington in 1922, from near Liverpool, England. William worked as a coal miner in Roslyn. William died in 1963, his wife Ellen in 1959. Both are buried in Eagles Cemetery, with a headstone that reads Mother and Father. We are attempting to locate what happened to the daughter, Ellen, who was born in 1915. We are hopeful she married and left descendants.
My friend is the great grand-daughter of William's brother and is the only other member of the family to come to the US. She discovered the existence of William when she returned to England in November 2010 to bury her father and is now hoping she has some relatives in America besides her own children! Cindy Wood |

Ravenna News, Buffalo County, NE, August 12, 1912 Art. Townsend Killed Former Ravenna Citizen Meats Death in Wreck in Washington Went Down With Engine But Meager Details So Far Received - Bridge Supposed to be Weakened by Fire. Art Townsend, formerly a well-known and popular resident of Ravenna, recently met his death in a train wreck in Washington. But meager details have been received here regarding the cause of his death, and nothing is known further than that his engine went down with a wrecked bridge. The writer knew Art Townsend intimately from his boyhood days. He began his railroad career at McCook beginning as a fireman shortly after the engineers' strike, in 1888. He was afterwards transferred to the Alliance division and for many years was an engineer, and for a time made his headquarters in Ravenna, building the residence property, now owned by Mrs. W. J. Eckerson. After accumulating a little money he quit railroading and went south, locating in Louisiana, where he was quite successful for two or three seasons in rice growing. Later he invested heavily in oil properties in Beaumont, Texas, during the oil boom in that district, losing practically everything he had. He then returned to Nebraska and took up railroading again, temporarily, later buying a steam plow outfit which he operated in Box Butte county, and western Nebraska. For several years past the family has lived in the state of Washington, where he again returned to railroading, riding his engine to his death. Art Townsend was a good man in every sense of the word, and his tragic death in the prime of life, is a matter of deepest sorrow to his old friends and acquaintances at various places on the McCook and Alliance divisions of the Burlington, where he was intimately and widely known. |

| Surnames: | Craven |
| Query: | I am wondering about an elderly caucasian woman that I knew as a child (40 years ago) that lived in rural Ellensburg. I knew her as Mrs. Craven. She was one of a very few people that my mother trusted to watch my brother and me.
When I was a year old my parents attained a terrier mix puppy from her. She would come to visit us (and the puppy) periodically. I remember her driving a flatbed truck that rattled and made noise. The dog would get extremely excited when it heard her old truck coming down our road. So...we always knew that Mrs. Craven was coming to visit even before we could hear her truck. She was very kind and extremely religious. She was living in 1971 when we moved way. We returned the dog to her not too long before we moved. I was always impressed with how the dog remembered her, even though it was only 6 weeks old when we adopted it. I think that she may have been a widow. If you have an idea about who this woman might have been, I would love to hear from you! |
