Comments:Hi Darren,

We met your parents at a Christmas party last Friday. They are both lovely people and we really enjoyed chatting to them. Your mom Kaye told us all about your success in the entertainment world. Well done I say, it's not easy to make it but you have and are to be congratulated!

I just wanted to pass along my email to your parents. If they are ever going to be passing through Chatswood here in Sydney they'd be very welcome to look us up for a coffee. Keep up the good work and God bless you all,

Comments:Hello Darren. We loved the show in Melbourne earlier this year. It was one of the best things I have ever seen on stage, and it should go international.

Just one little niggle. We were left with the impression that Cat packed in the music business all those years ago, which is true, never to be heard from again, which is not true.

I am sure you know that Cat has now started recording again, under the name Yusuf Islam. His CD "Another Cup" is available, as is a DVD of a concert he did in London this year.

As I have also always been a big fan of Cat Stevens, it's a double treat to hear about Moonshadows. I saw Cat in concert in the 60's in Bolton, England (what a performance)he came on stage dressed in cowboy gear and sang 'I'm gonna get me a gun'. We're planning a trip to Oz again next year and hope to see you then. Very best wishes and good luck in all you do. x

The performance was typical of Darren's musical excellence and his humanity. The humour and entertainment throughout guaranteed a tearful, meaningful night - well done. Congratulations to you and Ken would wrote so much of the material. This performance following on so closely from Moonshaddows clearly demostrates your your talent and professionalism!
The show should be a must for all Australian's and compulsory viewing for all students studying war!
Well done young man!

Comments:Hi Darren,

I cannot tell you just how much my wife and I enjoyed your wonderfully crafted 'Moonshadows' Melbourne performance in mid-February and again a week later. Your performances and those of the band were so entertaining and faultless; as was also the choice of music with explanation and its musical direction by Naomi. I sang your praises amongst my friends afterwards, asking them to make every effort to see the performance before it left our shores! (If you have the strength, and if you decided to tour with it, I am absolutely sure that 'Moonshadows' would be a major hit and sellout in the UK and USA, ).

I now have a copy of your 'Moonshadows' CD and will also be exploring your other works. We wish you and the band the success you all truly deserve. Thanks again so much for giving us a chance to hear the wonderful Cat Stevens music and thoughtful lyrics that are just as relevant today as they originally were.

It was excellent of course. I left the Athenaeum Theatre on such a high that I'm sure I could have flown home to Sydney without the plane! Darren, his sister and other accompanying band members certainly deserve as many tributes for their performance as Cat Stevens himself. Well done.

Needless to say, I'm booked to go to another three performances, twice with friends and once by myself.
And the thought that it will soon be over is such a terribly sad one... Please...PLEASE... Come back to Victoria and do a follow-up show with your amazing band sometime!

Comments:Dear Darren

A mate and I plus a heap of workmates (all 'children of the 60s and 70s : ) were front row at the Athenaeum last Friday (12/01/07) for Moonshadows. We weren't sure what to expect but experienced undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable concert nights we've ever had. When I shut my eyes (just occasionally because was hard not to watch) it was easy to imagine the Cat himself being up there; and it was especially pleasing to have all those great songs done 'as is' and remembered rather than (as some often do) have the timing and phrasing 'mucked around with'.
We sang along with just about the whole lot - and it certainly brought back memories of 'a better time' (in some ways) and certainly how talented and prolific the old Cat was. (I hear he has brought out a recent CD as Yusef Islam - must check it out)
I particularly loved 'Hard Headed Woman' and 'Into White' but the whole show - including your 1st and 2nd person narration - was absolutely wonderful.
The backing band and singers were also fantastic and made a perfectly balanced contribution to it all; then individually shone when the time came - like that great acoustic solo in Sad Lisa. Sincere congrats to them all. I must confess that after 10 minutes of the show being 'in love' with your sister and the two backing singers : ) - talented and lovely trio that they are; but maybe that was just symptomatic of the nostalgia and enjoyment?
Bottom line - thank you so much for a wonderful show and may you and the crew keep on entertaining audiences for a long time to come. The music certainly stands the test of time and you do it great justice. As far as 'tribute bands/singers' I can't think of any better I've seen.
All the Best

Comments:Hi Darren,

Every Christmas my mother in law buys tickets for her children and spouses (8 of us) to go and see a stage show. Traditionally we have always picked big budget stage shows and dont get me wrong they have always been fantastic but - your show was the jewel amongst all of them. My husband and his brothers love the 60's and 70's era and were very enthusiastic to see the show. I was looking forward to it but would have prefered Miss Siagon.....That was until I sat down and you came out and sang your first song...You blew me away, I could hardly talk....I looked at my family and no-one was saying a word or taking their eyes off you for that matter.....At interval we all walked out silently not speaking. Got outside and just could not believe what we had seen....I am not exagerating one bit when I say that your show was the most amazing and moving production I have seen. At one point (during Father and Son) to my surprise I had tears rolling down my face and they would not stopped......We loved the way you told Cat's story. Your band looked like they were having just much fun as we were..... I bought both of the CD's and have not stopped playing them....My 6 yo daughter is now a huge Cat Stephen's fan and is sing "Morning has broken" all over the house.......I know I have probably gone on a bit and am gushing and sound like a little groupie but the show really moved me....Thank you so much...

In fact - your charismatic and mesmerizing narration, your voice (both spoken and sung), and the music were so captivating that I was moved to tears. Literally. I was sobbing during the 'Peace Train' encore with a lot of goosebumps.

To the conceiver of the show, hats off. Not only was it a great portrayal of an amazing man and musician, but the way the show was constructed said a lot about many of lifes issues and current political/social activities.

Blown away. I want to see it again, and again and again!

Sincerely,

Comments:Hi Darren,

My wife and I were fascinated with the Cat Stevens show when we heard about it, and tagged along last night. Well, weren't WE the lucky ones. I was completely taken with the performance. You truly have a wonderful gift. And since WHEN did Wagga have a mortgage on sporting, artistic and any other type of talent in AUS??? Boy, who else is down there waiting to explode on the national and international stage? Must be the water..or Romano's...

It is obvious you have a special place in your heart for Cat, and the arrangements last night were superb. Please pass our congrats to that amazing wife and director of yours. You are in great hands.

The band is wonderful also. As a singer/performer/sound engineer myself, I was astounded by the quality of production. Very simple, yet ultra-effective.

Mate, you were brilliant. I have hit the website, and it doesn't do you justice. You are truly a remarkable performer. Keep up the tremendous work, and good luck with your future projects. Look forward to the next.

In 1970 at 20 years of age I spent the year in the jungles of Vietnam as a US infantryman. Scared and confused I managed my year losing friends and getting scraped up a bit myself. I returned home in 1971 and Tea For The Tillerman was playing with the new artist Cat Stevens. The complete album was great and Father and Son was moving. Cat and his songs with all the albums to follow helped me get through some tough times. Yesterday at the theater in Melbourne I closed my eyes I went back those 36 years. Really great performance by you and the band. Thanks for taking me back. I do hope a tour for the United States is part of your future.

So delighted to catch your new show, War Stories at Forster several weeks ago. It was very interesting, entertaining and poignant-a great credit to you. Loved to see the photos of your granddad too. (It was a shock to see you with long dark hair-hope to have a chance to see your Cat Stevens show)I look forward to the CD when it comes out. Wonder if the song about the Japanese soldier's mother could have a delicate little Japanese motif on the guitar? That moved me alot.
Still love Balancing Act, hard to pick a favourite song among such varied tunes that are so thought-provoking but Power Windows reminds me of my grandmother's Studebaker-my uncle still has it in Florence, South Carolina! and the Bush dance reminds me of those bush dances your dad and aunty Colleen and I attended up Ashford way when I first came home to Australia with her in '64. If I Could really touches my heartstrings too.
You've worked so hard for a long time and your talent has matured and grown-I was blown away by your guitar work when you played at Taree last year. Could have listened to that all night too. My very best wishes for your career.

I've been meaning to write for a while, I saw you at the Vanguard in Newtown, Sydney. This was one of the best performances I have ever seen live! Your original music did not only sound amazing but the lyrics had a lot of meaning to me. And your covers were often better than the originals!

We bought 2 of your cds, and I've been listening to it in the car all the time. Probably my favourite lyric is in "Balancing Act" where you say:

"If you think you're in control
Son, you ain't been there yet"

If you have any idea how hard I laughed when I heard that line you would know how much I can relate to it!

My fiancee really loves "If I could" and so do I. You explained the full story of this song on the night we saw you and I thought that was awesome. Thanks so much.

Thanks again Darren for that wonderful concert. You are extremely talented, have an amazing voice and your original music is some of the best I have heard in Australia. Congratulations and I look forward to hearing you play again in the future.
