| Comments: | Attended Kilcluney VFB parade with Dervock Young Defenders this year - brilliant atmosphere, its been years since I was up in Markethill. Was great to see KVFB taking to the streets of Dervock - turned a few heads lads!!! I see Maghera SOW member got hassle from PSNI over Kilrea parade. Last weekend we were trying to get to Ballymoney for Bushside FB parade and we were re-routed about 3-4 miles outside Kilrea through a mazr of back roads - aparently South Londonderry Martyrs RFB were on parade??? We did eventually make our way to the outskirts of Kilrea and were waved through the town centre by a cop who didnt know if the parade had started or not. Loads of taigs standing about doing nothing South Londonderry cops are working to a definate pan nationalist agenda - cast your mind back to Dunamoneys parade last year when Maghera cops stopped us and made us all unfurl our colours. | Comments: | I am a member of Maghera S.O.W F.B and on Friday night past (16th June,2006),at approx. 8.40 pm, several members of our band and Star and Crown F.B, Castledawson, were making our way to Boveedy F.B parade in the highly contentious town of Kilrea, Co.Londonderry when we were apprehended by a member of the PSNI.I was told that the parade had already started and that she had been advised that no-one else was allowed through.I argued my point across to her and she shouted on another PSNI officer to assist her with the problem.I told the second officer that we had been at another parade in Curran, also in Co.Londonderry and were running a little behind schedule.His exact words were" that's not my problem." He continued to inform me that the parade had started at 8.30pm and we wouldn't be gettin through and so he made me do a u-turn and make my way home.However,other members of both bands were behind and thus a stand-off began. Several mebers pointed out to this officer that we were both on the 11/1 parade application and thus we were entitled to parade, as long as we had arrived before the time limit deadline. It soon became apparent that this officer clearly did not know what he was on about. Some of his statements were " I'm only a Constable" and "I don't know the law".What statements for a so called "law-keeper" to come out with.Eventually he rang a Sergeant and knowing we were lawfully entitled to proceed, we gained access.However only band members got through, no spectators. Once again the PSNI have shown their true colours.Their actons were clearly intended to stop the Protestant people of South Londonderry from supporting fellow Protestants in the hard battle to preserve our culture.They want all Loyalist parades stopped in all areas and are using bully-boy tactics like this all over Ulster.So I urge the Protestant people to get educated on the law and know your rights.We can't give in to the PSNI's bullish actons and we NEVER will!!! |

| Comments: | No charges after July 12 sit-down in Dunloy THERE will be no prosecutions following a sit-down protest by nationalists in Dunloy on the Twelfth of July last year, it has been revealed. The decision has infuriated unionist politicians who say it will give a green light for Republicans to cause "mayhem" throughout the country. Chief Inspector David Wallace conveyed the news to a meeting of Ballymoney District Policing Partnership in Stranocum last week. He said that a file had been prepared and sent to the Public Prosecution Service following the sit-down, but was returned marked 'No Prosecution.' Chief Inspector Wallace said the reasons for not prosecuting were confidential. The news prompted a robust response from DUP Councillor Ian Stevenson who said asked if the decision set a worrying precedent to the community. "If that's the case then it sends a message that people can get away with that type of protest," Cllr. Stevenson said. "One wonders if it had been Orangemen who had engaged in the same type of activity would they have got away with it," he added. Cllr. Stevenson was responding to questions tabled by Cllr. John Finlay who was unable to attend the meeting. They were read by DPP manager, Johnny Donaghy. Cllr. Finlay had wondered if the three local politicians were being prosecuted along with others and if the driver of a lorry was also being prosecuted. During the incident last July, nationalists in the village staged a protest when Dunloy band and Orangemen were thought to have intended to parade from the hall to the church for a wreath-laying ceremony. The result was a stand-off with police subsequently removing protesters from the streets to allow a convoy of cars to pass through to the church. Sinn Fein representative, Martin McGuinness, was amongst those who took part in the protest. Commenting on the outcome, Cllr. Finlay said: "The decision not to prosecute the offenders of law and order is a flawed act of appeasement that will have repercussions far and beyond the village of Dunloy. "Those who illegally blocked the roads in Dunloy were photographed and appeared in the local press. There was therefore plenty of evidence as to who took part and broke the law that day. Nevertheless there will be no action taken. "The first point I would like to make is that although the PSNI do not make the laws of the land, they ARE the guardians of law and order in Northern Ireland. As such, I am exasperated that the police feel they can simply shrug their shoulders at the decision of the Prosecution service. "Secondly, the inference from all of this is that the law can be flouted without fear of prosecution if the offence is against the Loyal Orders. "This will give succour and encouragement to Republicans throughout the country to cause mayhem and organise and participate in illegal activity without fear of being held to account for their actions. "The third and perhaps most worrying aspect to all of this is that the forces of law and order are seen to be coming down on the side of the offender. If an illegal protest is met with no prosecution, the inference is that no crime has been committed. "If the PSNI want to be acceptable to all sections of the community then they must deal impartially with all sections of the community." |
