To me the 550's are the perfect tractors, I will never understand how JD came out on top.

Comments:Hello Larry,
Thank you for all the great information, assistance, expertise, and just plain kindness, you have shown, and given, myself, and many others! I,for one,am very grateful to you,and appreciate your efforts enormously! I am the proud owner of an extremely nice '66 Oliver 1850 Perkins diesel,I purchased from the original owner, with 3800 original hours, equipped with a Lundeen heated cab,Oliver 1610 loader, set of dual's,it has the dual p.t.o.,hydra-power,and a Sherman 3 pt. backhoe attachment. Everything works on this tractor, right down to the original dome light,it is "complete"(has original top link, tool box,etc.). In addition,I have an original Oliver dealership mechanics service/repair manual,it also has brand new tires, and I have a very extensive "spare parts inventory" for it. I grew up on 1850,and other Oliver, diesels, and this one is a true "survivor".I had thought about selling it,however,I'm not sure I can part with it. Anyway, thanks again for being so kind, and for the fantastic website!
Best wishes and regards,
Jeff from Missouri

I participate in KGLO tractor ride each summer. I have a restored 730 JD Diesel electric (Last one sold in Indiana) but it is really to heavy/large to trailer back and forth from OH. Comments:I want to thank-you for this great website. My grandfather was a cowboy rancher in NE Montana and as a child in the early 1970's I distinctly remember riding on his Oliver super 55. He had other tractors that had more power, etc, but the Oliver was the best at getting many jobs done. From feeding cows, to grating the road to pile driving wood fence posts, the Oliver Super 55 did it all. I loved that tractor.

We are a pulling family in Columbia, Tennessee. My dad wanted to do something different than what everybody else had so he went with what he knew best, the Oliver. We have a little 77 that we pull antiques with and a 2150 with 8.3 Cummins. I have had a great time with the sport of tractor pulling for it is all I have ever known and Oliver tractors are growing again here in our neck of the woods.

'Row Crop'. We purchased it when my son for about 10. It is anything but
'mint', but a good working friend. I found a new steering wheel on E-Bay
and wll receive in a few days.
I wish to replace items not on it when we purchased. I am looking for a
pair of 9 bolt pattern wheels ( and tires), since the original ware ulcerated
and may fail.
The starter converted to 12V, and I wish to do the same with the generator
sometime soon. As it is, I simply charge every now and then.
I will attempt to check over you parts listings for what I may like.

I am from Thornton, Ontario.
I have an Oliver 550, that i use to blow snow with all
winter, and it is a great running tractor. The problem
i have, is i cant seem to find a serial number anywhere
on the tractor. There is no tag on frame, and no numbers
stamped on frame. All I know, is it is between 1958 and
1975. Any idea where numbers might be ?
Thank You

Comments:Hi from Wisconsin. My dad and grandpa came to Wisconsin in the early 50's. They bought their first oliver in 1954, a 77 super with a freeman loader. After my grandpa died my dad used it in his tree removal buisness. MAN COULD THAT OLD GIRL LIFT.It would actually flaten the front tires. I have always loved old green.Felt sad when she finally gave up. I tried to get my dad to rebuild her, but he wanted to quit doing so many big jobs. We bought a 550 with a loader at an auction that my mom still has today. Little green runs a little rough, but the old girl still just keeps a goin. WHAT A MACHINE. I have always love olivers. There is no better green than ollie green. What a great sight. I am interested in the 1650 with the loader, and the 1600. I am working on re-starting a stump removal business. Both would handle the stump machine really well, and make it easier to get around lawns with. My step-son goes to school in Esterville. I would really enjoy seeing the old greens sometime. What a great site!!!!

I realize it is a fiat engine but i have heard alot of good things about them and it would work perfect on my farm, being a little squatier but with comparable horsepower to the bigger tractors for skidding logs and such, so wish me luck i will keep you updated and let you know how i make out! pss.. i cant get enough of the video of the 88 pulling that jd backwards, and the other clips also they never get old. thanks again for such a great site, take care and god bless.

Comments:Howdy,
I grew up in Florida and we had several 550 Olivers. From 1981-1983 we had a 550 Diesel. Then from 1985-1999 my folks had 3 more 550's (1) was Gas with grove tires and the other (2) Diesel - one running and one for parts. My dads good friend, Albert Green, was an Oliver/White mechanic for a very long time and knew them inside and out. He worked for the Oliver/White dealership in Lacrosse, Florida. Mr. Rawls who owned the dealership was a farmer as well, with several Oliver and White tractors used on the farm. I recently have been searching the net looking at Old Olivers and reminiscing. They were great tractors and hopefully one day, find myself an Ole Oliver implement to restore and place at our driveway entrance. Then maybe even find me an Oliver tractor to restore as well to just drive around the neighborhood. I am glad that my family got into Oliver tractors. I appreciate the memories and the longevity that they still provide.

It is presently being restored by the FFA of a local high school.

Comments:Greetings friends. I am 60 years old and I have fond memories of an Oliver OC12 which the new Zealand Government roading authority used in our town.I distinctly remember the red "lolly" as we called it, which my Dad used to put on a spike in the air cleaner before he started it. From what I remember the OC12 was a very sturdy machine and extremely well built. From what I recall the OC12 was well proportioned and as we say in our trade, "would climb where a goat dared to go" I also remember a farmer in our district had a little green Oliver he used on his farm and we always expected him to fall off his seat because of the way he was seated so far back. I operate a CAT D10T in an iron ore mine in Western Australia and I have fond memories of the Olivers, and machines like the TD24s which played a big part in the development of our country. I wish you all well.

Comments:I recently found a two seat planter, not a corn planter, sitting in a friends woods with trees growing up through it. I asked if he was going to use it but he did not want to sell it as he thought it was a valuable antique. I said I would try to bring it back to life if I could use it and he could keep ownership of it. He had found it earlier in another nieghbor's yard, again with trees growing up through it. I brought it home and used Liquid Wrench and WD-40 on it and all the gears and bolts loosened up and it appears to be in working order. So far all I have had to replace is the hose that runs from the water tank to the intermittent water gauge which was cracked and brittle.
I plan to plant year old rooted grape cuttings with it to let them grow another year and get more size. A neighbor's strawberry planter never did the job very well.
It has a larger barrel for water in front, two steel wheels which control an intermittent water valve that floods water about every 12" or so into a furrow that the planter digs and then closes up. Two seats between the wheels for two people to sit. Pretty tight fit. However, It looks ingenious and seems to work really well.
It has remnants of green paint but not John Deere green but likely Oliver green. No serial numbers of company name can be found. Any thoughts on this ingenious little planter as to whatthe model is? Who made it? Where it was made?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, John

But I know nothing about the oliver other than it has always been my favorite of the old tractors. It is not perfect but looks very good and runs well. Glad to find your site. Posted a question today and will likely post more in the years to come. Thanks very much for offering your advice and expertise.
