Comments: Desperatley needed is a long awaited (I honestly thought this would be released with the Peter Jackson Kong remake) 3 DVD Ultimate Edition 35th Anniversary Release of King Kong. Here is my Ultimate Fantasy.

1. Remember what George Lucas did with Star Wars? He remade it the way he would have really made it had he had 21st Century Technology in 1977. Consequently, there are scenes that are much improved in the "Special Edition"....Imagine getting Rick Baker, and de Laurentis back together, and the guys who did Jurassic Park effects? We re-do the Kong suit and masks for Baker, and re-shoot a few key scenes. We edit out the fake ass snake fight, and replace it with Kong fighing a Jurassic Park like T-Rex. We edit out the "Robot Kong" scenes from when Kong is captured in NYC, and replace those with good and realistic shots of Baker..(We could also show a few scenes of what happened to the sailors who fell off the log, in a nod to the 33' classic)....NOW, we include these scenes with the missing "NBC" footage, the extended scenes, and we have the ULTIMATE version of Kong. Also, we have Jessica Lange and Charles Grodin providing commentary.

2. Disc 2 contains both the original Theatrical release, and the NBC re-edited release. Plus trailers, ect.

3. Disc 3 is a special Documentary on the importance of Kong in Cinema, and a special about the all the different "Kong" movies that it spawned. Also included as a bonus would be "King Kong Lives" and some old commercials, trailers, ect.

Comments: The Jackson Remake was absolute CRAP. It is surreal, that with the budget he had and 21st Century SFX, he was not able to come up with a decent film. Here is exactly what was wrong with the film.

1. Overuse of CGI. Too many scenes in the Jackson Remake look like "Playstation Kong" CGI was overused to the point, where you could tell exactly what was CGI Generated. Too many dinosaurs, and it's almost like he needed to create too much action on Skull Island. In 1933, Merian C. Cooper and in 75, De Laurentis were able to use little puppets, and a guy in an ape suit to create more real looking monsters. Hell, back in the 70's, "Land of the Lost" had better looking and acting Dinos than Jacksons Playstation creations. Jurassic Park is what it should have resembled.

2. Miscasting. Jack Black as Carl Denham? Wow. I kept waiting for this unfunny character actor to start telling the sailors aboard the Venture about Rock Music. The "Jack Driscoll" roll went to an extra on "Friends" and in the single most important role in the Picture, he hand selects a middle aged woman who resembles Ann Darrow's cougar aunt. Naomi Watts would have been great for the role about 10 years ago when she was in her 20's. Plus, she was not sexy in the classic way that Fay Wray was back in 1933. Fay had a look, that was a siren, crossed with an innocent bright eyed girl, that worked perfect. She was hott without trying to be, and just had "it" Jessica Lange in the 76 Remake had "it" and also had that innocent girl with the bedroom eyes and the killer body thing going. In both the '33 and 76' Remake, Ann and Dwan were terrified of Kong. Dwan less so, but there was a definite element of danger, and especially sexual innuendo working, that brough a sense of mystery to both films. ("Tanya's Island" a Kong rip off showed audiences what they were trying to supress all along) This was missing in the Jackson "kid friendly" film, and Ann was turned into a Vaudeville clown, while Kong was a eunich like old man. Idiotic. In both the 33 and 76 Remake, Kong was a threat, and dangerous, period.

Skull Island. The Javanese cannibals were stupid and the Island looked uninhabitable. The Skull Island of 33 and 76 were a Forbidden Paradise with dangers lurking within. The Sacrificial Ceremony, done so gorgeously in 1976, was anticlimatic. So much more could have been done with it.

Comments:
While I liked both movies (1976 and 2005) one thing about the '76 version that edges out P.J's is the end.... Kong didn't bleed.

I must've seen that movie like five times before it clicked. They unloaded half a war's ammo into the poor ape and while he died, he didn't bleed. So I'm assuming he was just stressed out by being shot at by idiots and had a heart attack. Poor Pete must've been kicking the special effects crew over that one. Mind you, there was a lot going on, in post production, but to miss something so major (someone gets shot...they bleed) marred an otherwise good movie.

Since I was born post 1933, the 1976 version is my 1933.

Thanks again.

Comments:I would like to say is that King Kong 1976 version has inspired me when I was a kid. The roars , the height, and the battles that he took on was impressive. When they was killing him, it took my heart out for Kong and I wish I was there to save Kong and send him back to his island where he belongs. That movie really touched me, it also helped me to be strong among my enemies and face them in whatever situation. Just wanna say, Thank you for having a website to support the greatest monster and creature of all time" King Kong " . The 1976 version is sooo much better than the King Kong 2000; Even if the newer version had more graphics but it did not look sooo real to my emotional side. Thanks again, Bill from Philadelphia.....

Comments:I'm 40 years-old and I still love this movie! I'm actually listening to the John Barry soundtrack right now as I write this!

KING KONG (1976) was the first PG-rated movie I ever saw at the age of 9. My dad took me to see it during it's opening weekend at the Astor Plaza Theater in New York City. Try to just imagine the awe and wonderment in my face as I watched my very first spectacular "event" movie! This, after having seen nothing on the screen but "Benji", "The Wilderness Family" and assorted animated Disney re-releases.

As many of you know, hit movies stayed in theaters a lot longer back then. I convinced my dad to take me to see it again sometime in early 1977. Had I been able to pull it off, I would have gone back to the theater many more times to keep seeing it. Until "Star Wars" came out, it was my very favorite movie as a kid!

Now, as a mature adult (sort of) and father, I can say that even though the original black and white classic KONG of 1933 cannot be denied as a better and more significant film, KONG '76 will always hold a special place in my heart as a turning point for me as a child moviegoer!

I should also say that having witnessed the events that took place in New York City on September 11, 2001 firsthand from the street, watching the climactic sequence of Kong's final battle atop the twin towers of the World Trade Center seems all the more poignant.

Thank you, all!

Comments:I was so pleased to find this site when I recently googled my favourite movie. For years I suppressed my views for Kong 76 for fear of ridicule but to find so many other fans who enjoy it just as much gives me a feeling of vindication. Whilst I was too young to experience its release in the cinema (I was 3 at the time) I have watched it over and over and over again since the first time I saw it on tv in the early 80's. Due to the unjustified criticism of the movie, it had been impossible to obtain on video and DVD here in Australia, until Peter Jackson's version was released in 2005. Fortunately 76 Kong became readily available on DVD thereafter. The mystery of this movie is what entices me the most, such as Jack's story telling to the crew when he reveals himself as a stowaway, and when they finally come across the wall (much better than the 05 wall as Chris stated). Whilst I love the 05 version I was disappointed that Jackson opted to set the movie in the 1930's and portray the natives of Skull Island as babaric savages. One of the appealing factors of Kong 76 is it is set in modern time (albeit 1976), as a remake should be, so the viewers can feel a real sense of fear of Kong running riot amongst them. It also depicts the natives as a simple, naive race of people who worship Kong as a deity and feel they must appease him with female sacrifices. This to me, seems to be a more plausible depiction of a society cut off from the rest of the world for centuries, isolated with a gigantic and terrifying beast. I hope one day Kong 76 gets the recognition it deserves as a classic.

Comments:Hi!
Im a Kong collector since 1974. I like the history very much but the 1976 version was a revelation to me. Why? because Dwan was the first that cry for Kong. A beautiful woman, a perfect one! With nice feelings for a terrorific beast, undoubtly (?) the beauty understand the beast. Okay, 2005 version its more advanced in technique but Jackson not create the feelings between Ann and Kong: De Laurentis was the first one!
I hope that you can write some letters to me.
Thanx!

Comments:I think the Peter Jackson tale definately had its good points and bad points. I was totally disappointed with the look of the wall and native village. In Dino De Laurentiis' 1976 tale,it looked more tropical, and not so dead. I really liked Jackson's sacrifice scene, I thought that was really awesome! I thought with all the skull bones, here and there, that that was too much! LOL Little over exaggerated! I thought Kong was more scary in the 1976 one.But he moved more like an ape in this new one. The NY scenes were really great! In some ways the 1976 version was better, and in other ways...this one was better! But Peter Jackson made something that DID deliver to the audience...cause it was a good film overall!

Comments:Excellent site. I saw Kong in 1976 as a 12 y.o. boy and have never been able to forget the sheer sense of wonder and enjoyment I got as I gazed upon it through the unquestioning and uncritical eyes of my youth. Over the years the knowing adult critic in me has tried to creep out and belittle the movie as I watched but I've always endeavoured to force him back into silence and simply enjoy a guilty pleasure. Any others have the same experience I wonder. Cheers, Owyman.

I was a little boy when this movie came out in 1976...and was a huge fan of the flick since the first time I saw it at the theater.

I especially liked your Kong collectibles...but there was only one thing missing from your collection--the drinking straw! I had one of those, and it was great! It was a bulky fascimile of the WTC with a little Kong at the bottom, and as I sucked chocolate milk up through the straw, Kong climbed the building! :D

Comments:Great website. I think the best way to appreciate the 1976 version is through the extended tv version. I really wish they would officially release it on dvd, although that will probably never happen. Not only were there great extended and new scenes and aleternate takes- there was also alot more of John Berry's awesome score (such as during the beach landing, during the "log scene," etc.). Truly an epic experience and ions better than the theatrical cut (in my humble opinion).

Comments:Just watched the new "Kong" (Jackson's). It did look better, but the heart just wasn't there. Jackson used the idea of making it a love story...but let's face it without Lang's performance (not to mention what a stunner she was at 25) it just rang a little hollow. I almost felt something, and then the credits were rolling by. Lang and Bridges not getting together evoked more feeling than Brody and Watts getting together. It's not that the new Kong is a bad movie...its not. Having Jackson's name on it will ensure the critic's love...and alot of people will bash the Dino version because its the trendy thing to do. As for me, buying and watching the new one, just makes me miss the '76' one...guess I'll be bying that dvd Paramount's just done and hope that someday someone will release the movie in it's entirety.

how many times I have visited this web-site during the last two years. How many times I wanted to write comments about my love to the King Kong movies in general and the enormous impact the 76 version had to my life when I was a 9 year old boy. How many times I wanted to send Blair my congratulations for this wonderful web-site.
Unfortunately I never found the time to write and I was sure that Blair would recover. Unfortunately it is too late now.
I wish I would have written earlier.
But finally I want to write a few words now.

First of all I want to send my very best wishes to the family of Blair. Let me tell you that he created something, that King Kong fans worldwide wanted and want to see again and again.
And I don't want to forget to say thanks to Raymond Dowaliby from the also fantastic "KKstomp.com"-website. It is a very nice and noble gesture that you want to do your best to keep this site going.

Blair, thank you. Thank you very very much for "Kingdom Kong", for creating such a wonderful web-site with so much love and passion for King Kong 76. Your site was and is an eldorado for KK-fans in general and Kong 76 fans especially. Not only from the US but worldwide, no matter if they come from Panama, UK, Indonesia, Germany (in my case) or somewhere else. "Kingdom Kong" is a proof of your obvious and unique love and dedication to Kong 76.

Blair, you really have been a true and honest KING KONG fan!

The biggest compliment is that the 2005 version has walked the same dramatic ground as the 1976 film: An improbable but touching love story between a girl and a giant ape.

Comments:Thank you for creating a site for this film that I grew up with and have many fond memories of. One of my first memories was being 2 years old, crying becuase my Grandmother took my older sister to see the movie and not me becuase I was too young. I also cried when they killed the shark in Jaws 2...what can I say, I love the monsters always have always will. However Kong as you well know is much more then that. For me there have always been 2 Kongs, the 33 Kong and the 76 Kong and both will forever be a part of my conscious regardless of which Kong stands the test of time better. It was a rare treat when I stubled across your site, it was wonderful to see someone else out there has an effinity for this oft misunderstood film. As a Kongophile, I have room in my heart for all 3 big gorillas, well 4 if you include Son Of Kong. It is nice to see someone else does too. Be well and thanks again.
