Looks like a beautiful facility, I know how rough it can be starting from scratch. Look here zolpidem no prescription ... ephedrine discount ... I have done it twice in my life and if I ever do it again it will be for my own use only, not the publics, but for now it helps to pay the bills.

In case people would like to listen to some experimental music combining chinese music and western accompaniment, there are always some CDs produced in China which features an erhu or Guzheng playing popular music. I have come across one which use Guzheng to play hawaiian tunes, whose result is up to you to judge. A more successful trial belongs to the "Pacific Moon" series done by the Japanese which appears on the market from 1998, using all the traditional musical instruments and backing with sythesizer or other instrumental ensembles. Or you might also like to hear how Toru Takemitsu combined western orchestra and traditional Japanese musical instruments. Believe me or not, same type of experiment has been done from the early 20th century onward.

Some more comments: The real innovation of the blues/jazz/funk/rock business came from the infiltration of black gospel music and work songs into American folk songs to create the Blues. That is the only true mixing of different musical cultures (Well as a matter of fact, the Gospel music is already an acculturated genre, but let's regard it as belonging to the black people). All the other styles were developed from this genre. Please be reminded that apart from the Africans, all the other cultures you mentioned belong to the same linguistic system, which highly affect their musical style, making their music easily interchangeable. The different versions of "Autumn Leaves" are good examples of how closely related their basic structures of music are, so that the song could be sung in all different styles without great difficulties. The same thing happens in ¼sªF also, where the same set of lyrics can be sung in all 5 different types of »¡°Û style («nµ¡B¸fðÝ¡B©ç²´¡BÀs¦à¡B¤ì³½) and they all sounds good. I am equally amazed by a jazz piano rendition of Ravel's Balero, which successfully gives the music a brand new face. But all of them operate under the same musical systems. Playing "Take Five" with Chinese Musical instrument is another thing. It is like one morning you wake up and hear an Indian sitar player playing Autumn Leaves in Indian style. I don't know whether you'd still like it or not. But please don't mixed up the experiment done by the 12 girls workshop with that of the jazz/funk players.
Neoclassicism is the revival of Roman and Greek Arts in the 19th C. France. In music it means a revival of Baroque and Classical style in late 19th to early 20th C. as a reaction to the dramatic and forceful Romantic style. They were only small part of the music scene and were taken over by other styles quickly. So when they term the song "New Classicism", what do they mean? Where is the "classic"? What is new about it? What is it reacting against? And I am disappointed that the 4 erhus actually play unison most of the time, with a few moments when 2 of them are silent, but never really call and respond to each other. Forgive me for pointing out their poor intonation in the middle section. They are really unacceptable in a trained ear.

For the style of music, that's totally out of the question now, coz the case is I expect jazzy feeling and your don't. The situation is the same when a Russian Balalika group plays the Chinese [²úªá, some people like it, while the others thought it's disastrous. The rest is only a question of choice. And if you really like to know how technically competent they are, go to the Central Conservatory of China in Beijing and ask the professors there, maybe they can give you a fair answer.
Another thing is the commercial and the classical market is basically separated. The classical aura is always too critical, and the commercial focus too much on profit. I belong to the conservative "classical" party, and I admit that I am critical of the new music appearing on the market these days. From the point of view of an "insider" (coz I play some of the instruments myself), I have my own value judgment on the quality of their performance basing on my own exposure. I don't like this group, for sure, just because it represents neither Chinese nor Western sonorities, nor does it gives me any new excitement. Well actually I appreciate their effort to introduce ¿W©¶µ^ and ¸¬Äªµ·to the rest of world, but that's another question. If they could eventually give way to a new musical style, that's really a miracle, and I'd like to witness it also.
For my own recording, you could express your disgust, and I feel sick every time I heard it too. It is not my choice, but the company's. I am just doing what they want. And there are people who like to listen to them, just like you love the 12 girls workshop. So if you think I don't have the right to voice my dislike to this group (and I only do it in my own place!) just because you love it, please be considerate and think of those who love canto pop music.

I appreciate this type of exchange. At least I know you are knowledgeable of the origin of the song and listen to different kinds of music, not just pop genre alone.
Originally I wrote the diary for myself. It is neither a forum, nor is it meant to provoke argument. The point is you can have your own preference on certain kind of music and I have mine. I wrote my feelings in my own place, and you have yours. That's why I never go to forum to post my opinions, coz opinions are opinions, not the truth. And I don't meant to step down on those who have the opposite opinions, but seems people like you do.
I am well aware of the new musical genre created by the acculturation or mixing of different musical cultures. Some of them are very successful, some of them not. The best example is the Chinese Orchestra, on which many Western scholars have already expressed their disgust. If the logic is successful predecessors can guarantee successful new-comers, then you may also like to conclude that ªk½ü¥\would become a great world religion coz they are violently suppressed by the Chinese Govt, just like Early Christian Church by the Roman Govt.
The 12 girls workshop is gaining tremendous success now, but it cannot guarantee a long-lasting effect, just like Bond and Vanessa Mae who almost disappear from the HK music scene. And performers like ¤Bµá¸and ¤ý¾å«n , and some of the players in the HKCO also play pop genres like the 12 girls workshop do. Why couldn't they get the same popularity? Are they really worse then this group stylistically and technically? I don't think so. It's a matter of marketing and promotion.

First of all, µL²á¤His the name, and I think it¡¦s also the name you used to post your critic to ¡§The 12 Girls Band¡¨ in some other website¡¦s forum.
<²Ä¤G, §Ú«µ¨ºº¬y¦æ¦±¯Â¬°§l¨ú¸gÅç¤ÎÁÈ¿ú>
You think ¡¥The 12 Girls band¡¦ is not gaining music experience and playing music to make living? Beside make money. Ensure that their music quality is away better than the terrible canto-pop that you played.

<²Ä¤T¡A½Ð¥ýÅ¥¤@Å¥Herbie Hancock¤ÎPaul DesmondªºTake Fiveª©¥»µM«á¦A§@¤ñ¸û¡A¨Ã½Ð¦h¤F¸ÑÀï¤h¼Ö¬O¤°»ò¤@¦^¨Æ>
Take Five is written by Sax. Player Paul Desmond, but actually it released under the name of Dave Brubeck Quartet in 1959, Paul Desmond has only released another similar song called Take Ten on his solo album in 1973. Dave Brubeck performed Take Five in France, 1983, with another line-up, without Paul Desmond and drummer Joe Morello, then, of course, the taste of the song is totally a different story, Is it fair to compare ¡¦12 girls band¡¦ with the original version of Take Five? The version of ¡¦12 girls band¡¦ is not arranged as a traditional jazz setting, they just using the Main Theme of the tune, to developed a pop sort of music, without any solo improvisation on it, as we often heard in a traditional Jazz settings. The Intro of the ¡¦12 girls band¡¦ version is comes in by a funk grooves, then, some of the sections are still using Swing beat, and it still swing! Of course, we can¡¦t expect that they could sounds too Jazzy, since we don¡¦t have any roots and history of Jazz in China (Asian country). So, what did you expect them? Wanna see all the instruments to improvised solo for 8 Chorus each? But I believe their techniques and music sense could do it, but the arrangement of the tune is not purpose for that. You should check out their ¡§ New Classicism¡¨. The Erhu players really Trading Four in the middle of the song.

Different Jazz musicians ¡¥ve been played the same standard Jazz tunes, e.g. Autumn Leaves, different people¡¦d play with different feel, at different tempo, Stan Getz¡¦s been played a Bossa Nova style for that. Some famous fusion player even played it as a hip-hop funk style, so what¡¦s wrong with that?
<§åµûªº¤£¬O§Þ¥©¡A¦Ó¬Oµ¼Ö·®æ>
There was only Jazz/Swing in long ago, if people refused to bring the Brazilian rhythms to Jazz, there would not have Bossa Nova and Samba today, and also many others Afro-Cuban Jazz, think about it!
If there¡¦s no African rhythm, there¡¦s not Jazz, if there¡¦s no Jazz, there¡¦s no Blues and Rock, no Blues and Rock, there¡¦d be no R&B and Funk¡K..etc. If there¡¦s no combinations of all the above, there¡¦s no today¡¦s Fusion. Please open your eyes, accept new materials.

Yes, Jamie, I agree that we should read the Bible more carefully, not just taking it word by word. Sometimes it's annoying to hear people blaming the Bible in such silly manner, but it's equally ridiculous to hear people claiming the Bible to be "perfect" or "without flaw", coz there are so many places that are now considered to be either out-of-date or simply wrong. In simpler word, ¿é¥´Ä¹n¨Ã¤£¥ú±m¡C We should read the Bible as a whole, and accept it as a whole. Otherwise, I don't see any difference believing in the scriptures of other world religions coz they are all emphasizing love in some places or the other.

Thursday, September 25th 2003 - 11:46:31 PM

Your topics about ehtic and Christian believe (23/9)are very inspiring. Yup, it is difficult for us to understand certain "rules" given by God, especially in the Old Testament. And it seems that the God is so "unreasonable" and demand people to obey him strictly. However, if we think about the historical background and the life of people in those days and circumstances, it is not difficult to know about the reason why God gave those commands to people. (e.g. for question "c", obviously it's a matter of hygiene for that huge groups of Jews camping in the wild, right? ^^) And, actually the 4 Gospel and words from Paul have clear messages that Love is more important than rules, ethic or knowledge.
