| Comments: | Just thought Id share my story about Leaconfield. I went out in 2004 to experience something new and something completely out of the ordinary from my life. This was my first mustering experience and the best mustering experience I have had. The people were great, the riding was great and something I will never forget. The weather was even kind. Nothing less than 40 degree's. Beatuiful weather. Some day I will return. Looking forward to it. :) |

I met so many amazing people from all around the world. A photo I took while I was there was recently published as part of an article on the school in a German magazine for English teachers - I live in the USA - thanx to one of the gals I met while there. What i am wanting is for my daughter(23)myself and a friend to have a break for 3 days riding and sleeping under the stars in our swags in january. if you do short breaks with not so much husbandry involved but more horse games and roping and riding that is what we would like. My cousin (who owns horses) does the Pat Parelli training program with her horses and swears by it. I have never had the chance to be around cattle but my dream is to have my own ranch one day. | Comments: | Hi Tim I spent some time at Leconfield way back in November 1984 when Bob Skerett (I think) ran the Jillaroo/Jackeroo school. I was 24 at the time and still have some very fond memories of my time spent at Leconfield especially when we went trout fishing and caught enough fish to feed everyone staying there at the time. I think back in 1984 the school ran for 10 days (it may have even been 14 days) and there was always something happening, whether it be learning how to milk a cow to mustering cattle in the high country. We even had a go at whip cracking, shearing sheepand marking lambs with the teeth (not me!!!).Didn't go much for the slaughter back then and still shed a tear when we lose animals now. Back then I was quite a good rider and got to choose which horse I wanted to ride.I gave up the riding for a few years but recently got back into the saddle and it's like riding a bike...you never forget! It was a fantastic feeling (once I overcame the nerves)and I wondered why I had left it for so long. After Leconfield I spent some time with Jillian and Steve Sullivan. I think Jillian's nickname was 'Wee Bear' and she was Bob's? daughter. They lived at the foot of the Warrumbungles between Coonabarabran and Gulargambone and they had 2 girls. Kirsty was the name of one of the girls but other name escapes me.I enjoyed my time there but I'm not sure whether Jillian and Steve felt the same way?! Are they still there? Maybe one day we could revisit Leconfield. I have a young daughter who love horses and the country and I'm sure she would love the experience that a place like Leconfield from my memory has to offer.
