I have visited his site several times in the last few months. When I seen the picture of him in camo my first thoughts were, he's a little hunter, but I see that he was a little soldier. I've never heard of the joking game, until I joined Teen Angels and started visiting other memorials. We tell our kids about booze, drugs and safe sex, but I believe this also needs to be told about in our schools. I am so sorry for your loss. I know losing a child the pain NEVER goes away. It's taken me over 2 years to be able to smile when I think about my son in heaven, because I do know he has a perfect little body now and he's in the best of care and no doctors will ever hurt him again.
I pray that God will comfort you and that Jason's sweet and loving memories will fill your heart with lots and lots of love. Jason has such a beautiful smile! I just wanted to reach out to him... he's so precious. God bless you ((hugs)) |

I feel bonded to you, as Eric was my only child, and I, too, am facing such a void, as he and I were the "smallest family in the world." Now I'm alone, but never really, because I know Eric is always with me. I'm glad you found love. I want that for myself, but feel I'm too damaged to be loved by a man. I can only imagine what these anniversaries are like for you, knowing what they're like for me. My mind refuses to focus long on that night five years ago and dances instead to countless days before and since. Remembering that weekend at Long Beach when Jason was just a gleam in your eye, watching Jason, Katie and John skulk through the dark at Merlefest, remembering their fort in your camper at the Kite Festival. They have such good memories of playing with him and cherish the photos we have. Found one just the other day of him and Katie at his 4th birthday party. She even remembers the fish pond from that day! You always made good memories for him, and for all of us. I'm remembering, too, your generosity afterwards in sharing some of his favorite toys with my children. They have them still, and are reminded by them. You're often in my thoughts. the date was Friday, April 23, l999, and, yes, those terrible words were true -- your young life had ended on that day. It's been five long years since you left us, but we still miss you very much and think of you all the time. Do you remember the crystal prism you gave to Grandma one Christmas? It hangs in our kitchen window and some days the colors will be particularly active and vivid, and as the little rainbows dance across the walls and ceiling, we say "Jason must be here today." On other days a little plastic bird that sits atop a cupboard in our kitchen will -- for no appraent reason -- start chirping. At those times I always have a feeling that you've just passed through for a visit -- I hope it's true! Jason, we've missed out on five years of your young life, but you've missed out on so much more -- all the trials and tribulations of being a teenager, but also the excitement and joys of growing up. I guess what we miss most of all is being able to be with you today and see what a tall, good-looking, fine young man you would have become. No doubt, we would be so proud! No one is immortal, but immortality does exist when memories of you live in the hearts and minds of those who love you. Sadly, Jason, we'll forever remember you as a young boy; you were just beginning to experience life and "stretch your wings" -- but you flew away... This Saturday April 26 would have been his 24th birthday. I was so saddened to hear for your devastating loss. I direct a nonprofit grief organization, that exists to provide comfort, support, resources and education for those who are experiencing loss.
