| Comments: | I was in the same class with your daughter, Dawn, and through her, I got to know Tommy in high school. We lived in the same subdivision and I saw him often at school. I always admired him for the artistic work that he did and I have seen all of the movies that he and Eric made together. What I really admired about him, however, was his character. High school is hard, I was kinda weird, and people aren't always kind. Tommy was ALWAYS nice though. He actually offered to give me the jacket off his back once--a jean jacket with a "Smiths" logo on the back. That was the guy I remember--kind, welcoming, and generous. We weren't the closest of friends--being a few years apart in age--but I will always remember him fondly. |

| Comments: | I was friends with Tommy in high school. Like most of us do, I lost touch with him and so many of my friends after I graduated. Tommy was a year behind me. I was just on Facebook and looking for classmates that I knew and came across a website that mentioned Tommy and had a link. So, I clicked on it and was so saddened to find out that he passed away 9 years ago. I wish I would've known, I would've been at the funeral. I started thinking about memories I had almost forgotten. Tom ALWAYS had a hug for me. He was SO tall and I was SO short! He wrote in one of my yearbooks that I gave "the best waist hugs." He was always so sweet to me and I never forgot that he always had a hug, a smile, and a word of encouragement for me.
I knew that he had dreams of going into the film world and I'm glad he got to live out his dreams! Even though his life was cut so tragically short, please know that he made a difference in a lot of people's lives. High school can be so hard, but Tom made it easier for me. Knowing I always had someone I could count on to make me feel like I mattered. I regret that I didn't keep in touch with him after I graduated. My heart breaks knowing he's not here on this earth any longer. May God bless you and your family!! |

I am sorry you have to be in this group of "angel Mom's" but know that you have found comfort and solace in meeting other mom's in the same situation. Your Tommy was a very talented young man and your account of his death sounds so very much like my own David's death. He had a brain anuerysm and was on a ventilator for a week. The night we were called to the hospital by his wife, David was 39, I immediately went to the phone and called my prayer partners and got so many different prayer lines going for a miracle. Just as you did. When David died, I actually cursed God because we didn't get a miracle but another man who was brought in at the same time who was 41, with the same thing did live. I was so angry. Than, 10 mos. later we were back at the same hospital for my beautiful 16 yr. old granddaughter, Cassandra (my daughter's child) she had the flu and died 4 days later of complication from pneumonia and sepsis. Once again I lashed out at God. Even told Him I would never believe in Him again. But that was in anger and I realized I couldn't get thru this without Him in my life. Finally I came to realize that no, David and Cassie didn't get the miracle I prayed for, but they got the "ultimate miracle", eternity with Him. I know now that God is in control and He does answer our prayers, maybe not the way we want but He sees the whole picture and we only see dimly thru a mirror. So it is with your Tommy, he received the "ultimate miracle" too and we must trust that God knows what He is doing. I am writing a book now called "From A Mother's Heart" and spend much of my life trying to help newly bereaved mom's walk thru this painful journey of grief. | Comments: | What a beautiful tribute to Tommy. I grew up in Baudette, Minnesota, and my son Ted is buried there along with his grandma and grandpa. It's a neat place for a photographer, especially it one can get out on Lake of the Woods.
I just returned to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area yesterday. I had been up there visiting him for a few days. Boy it was hard to leave him behind. I live in Florida which is 2000 miles away from him, so I don't see him too often. I know the hosptial he first visited after his accident. My dad was responsible for the original hospital many years ago. I know it's still not equipped for such medical emergencies. I'm truly sorry that it isn't... perhaps it might have helped Tommy. Losing a child is the worst pain possible. I lost my Ted last year and haven't recovered yet and doubt if I ever will. I'm so very sorry you lost yours in my home town. God bless and keep you, P- |

| Comments: | I have had a special place in my heart for Tommy, and his entire family for many years, as I used to date his sister Dawn. I was terribly upset when his aunt told me that he was taken from this earth at such a young age...It was an extremely difficult time for me as I was just getting used to the idea of being a father myself for the first time....( I was expecting a son in December.)
I remember thinking how horrble Jane (Tommy's mother) and Tommy's sisters must have felt... I was saddened to hear that a young man whom I considered a friend, even though we had only spent a small amout of time together, had passed away... I asked Tommy's aunt Barb to pass on my condolences to the family as I was unable to attend funeral services... I then sat and thought about my own mortality, as well as that of my loved ones, and began to cry... Thinking of all the things I have done, that were, well not right...(Things like bad break-ups, and walking out on people who depended on me for one thing or another..) I couldn't find a way to correct my mistakes, the same mistakes that people, like Tommy, and Jane, and others too warned me about... I then began to think of Tom, (Tommy's Father) and kinda chuckled knowing how those two used to argue about the silliest things, and I could almost hear them arguing from above.... I then began to make drastic changes in the way I lived my life..(Knowing how Tommy felt about life, and the way he lived, and sadly passed away doing what he loved..) I began to do things a little differently..And then the only thing I ever really feared came true...In March of 2000 My newborn son was killed in a house fire...I was out of town working and had noway to get to him....( Although, I;m not sure it would have mattered a lot if I had been home, I may not have been able to save him anyway..) Then suddenly in the midst of all my sadness, and hatered for everything, and everyone. I began to feel a strange calm come over me.. Something I couldn't explain, and had never felt before...I felt like my son was with people I knew would take good care of him.. The very first person I thought of was Tommy..... I don't to this day know why, nor do I think I ever will, But I know it, without a doubt.... I also still even though I felt a strange relief, felt the worst pain I have ever felt in my life... A feeling that Jane knows all too well, the loss of a child... Jane and I have had our differences of opinion ( I must admit, she was generally right.) I still feel likke I have learned alot from he, not about how to treat girlfriends, or how to wash dishes, but about life as a whole... I feel the same pain she feels everyday, eating away at my soul, making me nausious, and the agony of a broken heart... But I also know that if she didn't she would rather not be alive to talk about it.. I am deeply saddened by the loss of Tommy, and at the same time Honered to have known him....... . . . . . . |
