They both fitted me like beautiful gloves without conflicts but those who called themselves devout saw that their path was the only one. they lacked understanding. As a person raised in the Judeo-Christian tradition, as an RC, I am very drawn to both the indigenous religions of my Cherokee descent mom, and my Irish dad. I find no trouble in blending them and creating an amalgamated spirituality that is my own. Here is to inventing one's own theologies based on truths and not wrote dogma. |

the rest of us to pray over and meditate on and sit with and walk beside. I wanted to offer a brief response but was then moved to share some words from a book I'm writing that is in production; hoping it will be headed to press sometime soon! My words speak my heart best in how I feel about your site. "People of Celtic ancestry are inheritors of a grand thing. I sometimes refer to "it" as 'the magnificent inheritance.' It is a spiritual road of freshness, of bright awakening. It is a path replete with possibilities: stories and healings beside a hearth; ways to receive guidance and wisdom from ancestors who act on our behalf in life-affirming ways as co-walkers (Scottish); teachings of saints who walked, related and sometimes even communicated with animals; perennial and sacrosanct means of relating to Creation, not as an event that occurred in seven days but as an ongoing process of which we are co-creators and stewards of; a deeper and wider sense of ourselves, each other and of reality itself, expressed in the ancient Celtic view of material reality being the embodiment of the Otherworld. Yet, with this inheritance also comes deep wounding-- cultural wounding from traumas our ancestors had to endure, but also spiritual wounding where Christians and Pagans have not been able to sit at the same hearthfire and talk. Rural Ireland and Scotland (and perhaps other Celtic countries as well) have a great teaching in this regard. The true soul of the Celtic peoples is like mist: not totally air, not totally water, but a sacred marriage of elements forming a 'third thing'; a third phenomenon which offers liberation and sensual aliveness. I think the dialogue and perhaps even the dance that will happen between Christian and Pagan in the modern milieu will get us all back to something more pure and holy, more pristine and alive, deep and giving-forth (as well as forgiving). As one old Highland saying goes from the outer isles, "Jesus was a good Druid."
