survivior. When it was time to bring him home the vet had to "put him under" to shave him completely down. His mats were so bad his skin was actually scalded from urine and God knows what else. I have had him for a few weeks and he improves everyday. I have never had any experience with lahsas in the past so this is all new to me. We have named him Joe and he is extremely attached to me. I am having a serious problem however, Joe is having a major biting issue. I can certainly understand why with everything he has been through and I know it is not his fault,but he has so far bitten me in the face as well as my husband several times (poor hubby). My husband is not really allowed by me any more. I'm writing in hopes of maybe someone could give me some advice of things I could do to help Joe through this because I will not give up on him he has more than deserving of a loving home.I just need some help in understanding and getting through these issues he has. Most importantly I do not want Joe to feel uncomfortable or intimitaded in any way. Thank You so much for listening to me and Joe. I have been searching for a good web site that shows good pictures and I finally found it...I love what you have done with your page..I myself have 3 Lhasa Apso. All three are males max is going to be 2 in January..Bandit he is 1 in January..Then the latest he just turned 9 weeks..Max is so great ..He understands when we speak to him just as much as I would be speaking to a human..Bandit he is getting there. They are so spoiled to me..If I do laundry or get up to use the rest room they are there..They follow me around everywhere I go..I love them if anything would ever happen to them I dont know what I would do..Bandit was sick awhile back..Had runny stools..The vet tought it was something he ate but it was an allergic reaction to his puppy food..We had a hard time to find one ..We know feed them boiled chicken and rice or boiled hamburg and rice..Then in his dish we have pedigree..That is the only thing he can have.. | Comments: | I hope that you forgive my impertinence. I am writing to you because I don't know how else to try to obtain information - in my research I have found website, and I am hoping that you will understand and be able to help me or direct me appropriately.
On August 19, 2002, at 5:37am my precious furperson, "Nini" Francesca, passed away in my arms. She was a 4 year old, gold/apricot blacktipped Lhasa Apso, and has been the delight of my family from the minute we laid eyes on her at 6 weeks old. (I did not want to take her away from her mother at that age, but the family who had the mother was insistent and threatened to take her to the pound or pet store if we did not take her immediately.) Nini was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia in May 2002, and no matter what we tried, including home hydration therapy, in the end we could not stop the progress – her little body just gave out. I take some comfort in the fact that once her passing became inevitable it was rapid, as well as in understanding that she is no longer in pain or discomfort. When I saw the pictures of your babies, I began to cry; your sweet little Ellie looks just like my Nini! I am trying to find a reputable breeder, and would like to try to make arrangements to adopt a female puppy, as close to Nini’s size and coloration as possible. And, I am looking for a companion furbaby. Please understand that I am not trying to replace my Nini – that will never be possible. However, my entire family, including our 3 year old spaniel and 2 cats, is grieving, and I am hoping that a new baby will help to heal that grief. I am interested in pups bred as close to the true Tibetan line/form as possible - oval, not round eyes, with the temperment and joy in life that I have come to cherish. I would prefer that the line has not been bred with the Shih Tzu. I am also requesting to be provided with information as to the incidence of kidney disease within the line. I live in the San Francisco bay area, and if my dreams and wishes could be fulfilled I would be able to meet the "Mom" (to be sure that she accepts me), and be able to meet and bond with the pup before taking the baby home to live with me...in my house and my bed, not in my yard! If you can provide any information in this matter I would be greatful – and I would not mind (in fact, would expect) to have to wait for a pup. However, if you allow people to adopt furbabies that are born into your home I would like to discuss this with you. daughter last Saturday. We wanted to thank you againfor providing us with a wonderful new friend. The ride to Indiana was quiet with a slight upset stomach. He has adjusted well and loves everyone in the house. My 6 year old grandaughter and her friend run him ragged in the backyard during the day. He takes a nice long nap afterwards. He has such a wonderful personality. As the breed comes from Tibet, my wife decided to get on line to research some possible names. She came across a phrase that translated to 'a shower of blessings'. The Tibetian phrase was 'Kalu Rinpoche', pronounced Ka-loo Rin poe chee. So Jack is now known as Kalu. We are happy to have found a quality breeder such as yourself, whose puppies obviously reflect the love and care you provide. I have recently looked at puppies in a pet store, but have been reading quite a bit of information on the internet that says to buy from a breeder only. We were very lucky with Jasmine. We purchased her in a pet store, have papers on her (but did not register her), and she has not had any health problems yet. I have spoken with a lady here in Kansas City that has Lhasa puppies for sale, but I am always concerned that I might be getting a dog that is not totally a Lhasa Apso. I am not sure how I can be totally confident that I am getting a purebred Lhasa. Even though I want the Lhasa just as a family pet and not for show, there are so many unique features about the breed that I want to be sure I am getting a purebred Lhasa. I hope to hear from you. Thanks for your tips on grooming and feeding of our newly acquired Lhasa. Little Rusty has completely stolen our hearts. We had him groomed yesterday and he looks cuter than ever. I didn't realize he had such long eye lashes. He could steal any girls heart when he looks at them with those big eyes. Regarding the ear infections - what do you recommend doing? Swabbing out his ears on a weekly basis with cotton Q tips dipped in rubbing alcohol. Please advise. I will take your advice and order the grooming devices you recommended. Cheerio, Stewart |
