I've just come back from travelling was in Melbourne for 9 months and London for 4, now that I'm back however I think I'll have to go back for a bit (to UK). Hows Uni going or have you finished now? | Comments: | Hi Lydia, I just read your homepage, and I just want to tell you something. I don't know if anyone else will ever tell you about this in your life, and its really important, so I'm going to take the opportunity.
God created you for a purpose. You are not rubbish to him. He really loves you and he really cares about you. When you walk down the street he is with you. Every word that you say, he hears you. Every thought you think, he knows it. And although He is God of the whole world, and created every atom, more than anything he wants to get to know you. Of course you know the story of Adam and Eve and the apple. Have you ever put that story up against your own life, and asked yourself what relevance it has? When they bit into the apple that looked so enticing, all the more so because the God who wanted the very best for them had told them not to, they became full of sin. Sin means literally, to miss the goal. Their lives were no longer directed towards God, aimed at being in a relationship with him. They had decided to do their own thing instead of doing it his way, and at that point they stopped being holy. Now unholiness cannot exist together with holiness. They are like oil and water, they have to be separate. Human beings became sinful, unholy, and were therefore separated from God, cast away from his presence. Their lives became loveless, empty. Deep inside something was missing, the love of God was no longer filling them. They started to try to fill that hole inside with other things. Attitudes. Identities. Or food, sex, drugs, people...but none of these really did the job. Not only could these things not replace God, but they brought even more destruction with them. Their sin also had consequences. At the moment, although most of the world isn't living in a relationship with God, they are living in his creation. Everything good which fills your heart with joy - not a cheap thrill kind of joy, but relief-joy - like the sea, or trees, or a sunset, that is the creation of God. Friendship and support, is a little bit of what God is like. Anytime that you have felt secure and loved, you come close to knowing a bit what it is like to be in a relationship with God. But one day there comes a moment when you, like every other person will stand before this God that a lot of people scorn and say doesn't exist, and you will be responsible for what you have said and done in your life. Now a lot of people think, thats all right. I may not be an angel, but I am more or less okay. But the thing is, we cannot measure how good or bad we are by our own standards. God has already given us his standard. Its the ten commandments. Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not say anything bad about others. Honour your mother and father. Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. etc. These commandments show us what sin is, and by this standard we will either live with God forever, or we will live in eternity without God, where every good thing in this world, every trace of love and security, will not longer exist. Okay, the good news. Beause I cannot fulfill this standard any more than you can. Actually its not about what we do or don't do on the outside. Its about what we are on the inside. Somenone said "If you think in your heart, I would like to kill so and so, then for God its as bad as if you did actually kill him. Or if you lust after someone who is already married, that is equivalent in Gods eyes to commiting adultery. In this world, that may not be a very big deal anymore. But in Gods eyes its a very big deal, and he is the judge, ultimately. The reason he hates sin is because it destroys us. It destroys our lives, homes, families and societies. What happened in America recently was because of hatred - sin - in the heart of man. God hates it, because in spite of all we have done against him, he still loves us and wants the best for us. Which is quite incredible if you think about how the world completely ignores him although he created every one of us, and only longs to get to know us. So, hopeless situation. Humans were created to be with God. But now they are full of sin, and so they can't be with him. They run into wrong relationships, and they try to run their lives themselves. It doesn't work, because even if it looks good, one day it will all crumble when they have to stand before God and account for what they have done - by his standards and not their own. What is they solution? "For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life..." The Son of God came into this world to be punished for our sin. For my sin and yours. So that we should no longer have to fear judgement day, and so that we could come into a relationship with the living God and have our longings stilled. God wanted to know you, really know you like a best friend, so much, that he sent his only son whom he loved to be crucified on a cross to take away your punishment, of being separated from him. So that you could have a new beginning. It was Jesus Christ who said that sin is in the heart on the inside. And it was Jesus who came to take away your sins, and cleanse your heart and bring you to God. He is reaching out for you now, he wants to forgive you, he wants to take your hand and lead you, he wants you to know the joy that you have never known before, that only he can give you. Will you say yes? The reason I have written you this is because your answer to that question has eternal consequences. You can choose to have a life filled with meaning and purpose. You can choose life. Or you can say no. Everone is looking for something. Why don't you be the person who finds what they are looking for.... Jesus Christ, I am a sinner. I thank you that you came into this world to die for my sin. I come to you now. I ask you to come into my heart, and I put my life into your hands. Please forgive me.
