Comments:I am Lillian Norman Harris' daughter, niece of Marie and Ruth Norman, granddaughter of William Ellington Norman. great granddaughter of George Washington Norman and Alexander Glaze. Being the youngest granddaughter, I inherited the Norman/Glaze family bible purchased in 1803 by David Glaze. His wife was Susanna Norman, daughter of William Norman. Lois Norman used this bible when researching her book, The Normans of Normandy Hall. The bible contains a section on colored births that might be helpful for others searching for their ancestry. I would like to share this info, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Please advise if interested.

I find that there is much information on the web, but also find that there are many errors in this data. I hesitate to use it unless I can verify the source. I seems as if you are futher along than I. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Comments:Wondering if I am descended from this line. My grandfather, Fred Bolton Norman, was born in Lincoln County in 1897. I believe his parents were Nancy Bolton and Henry Norman. Nancy remarried and moved to Texas. Fred lived there for a time, and he married my grandmother, Frony Lee Beasley (aka Frona or Phronie or Sis) in November of 1917, probably in Wilkes co. He served in WWI and passed away in Jones Co in 1950 or 51. I believe he had a brother named Webb.

Name: Sedonna Norman
E-mail address: senorman20@aim.com
Comments:My name is Sedonna Norman and I am attempting to trace my Norman roots from Lincolton, GA. My family is of African descent and we were of mixed lineage at some point. My family is made of Norman, Glaze and Murry surnames. I have sent previous e-mails but have not received a response as of yet. My father remembers playing as a small boy on the porch/patio of the Stevenson-Norman house. I have studied the website and would welcome any information or input anyone has regarding the Negro births recorded or not for the Norman family.

I have studied the Norman family bible page 7 which records the Negro births and to my surprise many of the names are the current names of my surviving aunts and uncles that still reside in Lincolton and Charlotte. If anyone has information on Hannah Norman or Thomas (Tom) Norman I would greatly appreciate the information. Also, my father Pettis Norman was delivered at home by a Dr. Burch in 1939. He was the son of a sharecropper in Lincolton, GA.

Many thanks and I have enjoyed learning about the Norman Family.

My latest project is trying to determine where James Courtney, Frances Courtney Norman's father, came from. I can't find a documented connection with the other Courtneys in 17th century Md and Va. The circumstantial evidence is strong, and I've reached my own conclusion, but I'd like to find proof.

I really like your website -- high quality research, attractive presentation, and of course, my favorite subject -- ancestors!!

E-mail address: mickieleonard@yahoo.com
Homepage URL: http://www.quarterman.com
Comments:My husband's family are Norman's from from Knoxville, TN. My paternal grandmother, Leila Quarterman-Leonard was a Quarterman from Liberty Co. GA. My "Revolutionary War" Grandmother was Amarinthia ``Renchie'' Norman (1770-1807)

Below is some recent Quarterman Family site input from my cousin Connie Sadler that may be of help. I would be interested in the DNA test for my "Qtrmn" roots as well as for my children in the "Norman" side roots.

From: Connie Sadler
Date: Tue, 3 Dec 2002 13:48:13 -0800 (PST)

For those Quartermans of the "Three Thomas" line (Thomas I, Thomas II, Thomas III), Renchie presents an enigma. If I were a novelist, I would jump on her story. She stikes me as something of a rebel.

First she married young for the Midway group -- married Thomas at about 17. He died a year later. She married an older man -- John Elliott's son John would already have been in his teens, right? [17] -- and she was barely twenty. John Elliott died a year later, and next she married a -- how do we put this delicately? -- a YANkee!!:{ [Rev. Cyrus Gildersleeve, who was at the time pastor of Midway Church.] Surely she must have raised some eyebrows in her day. Then, by today's standards, she died young -- just 37. Her vital statistics raise a great many questions.

Incidentally, my genealogy projects for 2003 include tracing out the Normans. I've seen a great deal of chatter among descendants of Dochester S.C. Normans on the Norman genealogy message boards. They all seem to trace back to a Captain Richard Norman born in -- get this -- Dorchester, England. The family settled around Marblehead in Massachusetts.

Some may have spent time in Connecticut before migrating to South Carolina. There were quite a lot of them in the Goose Creek area, perhaps even before others arrived. It's all sketchy at this point. Beyond the Three Thomas line, findng out more about William Norman, who went to Mass. to look for a pastor in 1684, may tell us all a little more about what went on behind the scenes to precipitate the migration. I'll pass information along as I find it.

Renchie Norman had an older sister, Mary Norman, who married first William Baker and second John Roberts. whom I think we've discussed at some length in this list before. Mary only had two children, while Renchie had ten.

Comments:My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Norman Athey. Her father was Ben. She had a brother named Ben and one named Joe. There was a sister named Frannie.
Ben may stand for Benjamin or Benton. I'm thinking Benton.
I've seached high and low and I can't find any information on the branch of Normans.
Grandma had family come to visit her from Waco. No one knows anything about grandma. I guess I will never know anything unless I put out info and get lucky that someone may know something.
Mary Elizabeth Married William Athey. I think they were from VanZant Co TX before they moved to Lufkin TX.
The only ino I have was found on her death certificate. Her mother wasn't mentioned. No one knows her mother's name.
If you have any of these names in your genealogy info please let me know.
We get our darks hair and eyes from her. They say she had cherokee blood.
Thanks Linda Athey
