| Comments: | I read your article and my heart goes out to you and your family. I am a Correctional Officer in Texas working at a maximum security unit for over 12 years and have been with inmates and their families during these times. Im appauled that took place, I feel "out of place" having to "stand Guard" with the dying inmate, but in general the families have always been very polite and I would never think of disrespecting them. It is obvious that these officers have lost their humanity, But you can never blame or look down on their families they are punished enough. Please dont think all correctional officers are the same, because we're not all that way.

| Comments: | In reading the story of your brothers final days, and of how you and yours were treated, my very soul was sickened. The number of ‘good’ reasons for this type of behavior comes to exactly zero. I shall not only remember you in my prayers, but I will have to remember the offending morons also, for they suffer from a retched malignancy at their very core. This type of treatment has no place in any society anywhere, least of all a country whose constitution is morally based on decency and fairness for all.

I am converting to Catholsim and in doing so started rethinking my p revious feelings on the death penalty. I was very pro it but when I saw the Church is agaisnt it I started reading to find out what I beleived. | Comments: | pam thanks for sharing your story i had a brother in mt olive correctional facility in wv. he turned 38 tue april 20th and was brutally beaten and stabbed to death we was told by the prison that all they could tell us was that he had died we found out threw the news media what had really happened. he had a law suit against the prison for neglect to give him medical attention and then he got killed by 2 other inmates during a softball game. my love and prayers go out to you i wish i had your courage.

Your tale of your brother puts shivers down my spine. I'm an alcoholic that is going to jail soon in ohio. I no not to drink and drive,but I don't want to be killed for it. I'm very scared.I wonder what's going to happen to me and my family. I've been trying to fight it in the courts, and the police dept. knows this. They are always cruseing my house,and trying to make it even harder than it should be. I know what I did is wrong. And I should pay. But at what cost? I too will take notes and send them home in hopes that this thing that happend to your brother and I'm sure many other men won't happen to me or anyone else in my city. Good luck to you. We live in a society where people do not even think for one moment that the pain and misfortune that someone else face could and oneday will be there own. They do not realize that they have the power to curse or bless. And whatever they give out it shall be measured back to them. I am sorry for the pain and hurt that your family has suffered from a system that is suppose to provide justice, human deciency and personal rights for all, even for those who have lost their freedom. I have family members who are incarcerated in several states for various crimes. However, I still wish for them to be treated with decency and respect. I would like to learn more about how to change things. I'm praying for you and your family.

I know they want the same peace for us, and I pray someday we'll have it. When Bud died, my sister Sue said, "God must love him best, because he took him first".
