I came here to try to help a girl who asked for help on the internet, but she won't talk to me now, guess I didn't understand enough or I was encouraging her to seek help through her parents, who she said were good parents and she didn't want to hurt them more by knowing she was still cutting. Anyway I still keep her in my prayers and saw your url and throught I could learn some more. My heart goes out to you and others, like my grandson, who feels the need too. From lots of personal problems with a Father who deserted him and his Mother was depressed and used alcohol to kill the pain. Alcohol now too is mostly his way of self harm. Since he had married and has children he seems not so destructive, and I think he is trying. When you won't get the help you need it's a much slower process to work it out for yourself I think. So glad you wrote this to share, it helped me to read it. What has helped me more than anything, besides having loving parents, and being fortunate in many ways, like the oldest of many close cousins and looked up to instead of down, has been the personal experiences I've had with a God of Holy Love, who I know is my friend and best possible guide. recluse on welfare. Have been for 15 years. Been in the system the whole time. Meds, therapies, ECT, whatever. None has ever made any difference. I'm jumping in to say that people's lives CAN be ruined. When my girlfriend left me and had me labelled a sex-offender there was no turning back. I left university and my career, my family and friends and everything else I can't bear to name. I cry daily and drink when I can. Three failed suicide attempts and no COURAGE left to try again. For years I believed what I was told, now I accept what I felt at first. If you can be "cured", please do and enjoy life in my stead. If you can't, I wish you death. I still love you Glenda. |

beleive that depression and manicdepression are both hereditary and if your unipolar your children can have a chance on having either. I have chose to learn about both. I think it would be ignorant not to know about both. I bet if you look in your family history you would find both unipolar and manicdepressive illness. My son is 10 yrs old and i wath him very carefully for both since both run in our family. Please encourage those with depression to educate theirselves on both.Their is alot of research out their on this subject. |

I like the page, although I haven't read it all yet, I wanted to write in this straight after I saw about the reasons u cut when ur depressed, cos that it just the same reasons as me when I cut during a deressive episode (I have Bipolar disorder). But, like u said, cutting is addictive, I've been doing it for 6 years, and I still cut even when I'm not depressed (like now. I'm on some good meds which have so far helped me thru my most recent depression). But I cannot bear the thought of a life without cutting...I don't know what...sorry, am I blethering?
