As a 23-year veteran of military service and a current government employee, I find it disturbing that the open showing of patriotism of the majority of this country's population is ever so fleeting. The people who only serve themselves just don't understand the sacrifices that public employees such as yourselves give everyday for the safety and good of others. It's a shame. And how soon they seem to forget because they're so wrapped up in the personal lives to give of themselves. |

| Comments: | Stephanie - What a wonderful tribute to two wonderful guys! I have ties to both Joe and Kip. I served with Kip at Crescent for a couple of months before moving to Tennessee, running several middle-of-the-night EMS calls with him and then saw him last summer while visting all my good friends at Greenfield. Not only did I serve at Greenfield with Joe for a short time, I worked with Karen (Jim's wife) at the VA for several years and she and I had/have a very close friendship and shared many good times and chats. Because of that, I felt I knew the members of the O'Neal family even though I had only met them briefly or not at all. What a shock to get each of the phone calls about both Kip's and Joe's sudden passing. My heart goes out to the families, friends, and fellow firefighters of both. |
