| Additional Comments: | I'm a junior at a liberal arts college and an english major
(also a HUGE BTVS fan.) I do watch Angel and so am capable of editing crossovers and/or references to that series...however, I prefer to beta fanfic that does not deal exclusively with that show, as I feel that the BTVS-verse is much better written and more developed to begin with. I have previous beta-ing experience with several different storyforms in the BTVS and LFN-verses, and prefer to beta by inserting suggestions and alternatives into the text that exists, rather than changing the text. (thereby giving the author the option to accept/reject my suggestions more easily, and to make side-by-side comparisons between the suggestions and their own work. This, hopefully, lends the author a deeper understanding of WHY these changes were made, so that they can, in time, learn from their mistakes and make fewer, making my job easier.) I beta at several levels, and the author should feel free to make it clear at what level they want my advice. First level--simple spelling and grammar check (essentially proofreading.) If an author has already decided, with a friend, another beta-er, or him/herself, that the story is NOT GETTING CHANGED ONE LITTLE BIT, then I am happy to proofread it, so long as the grammar and spelling are reasonably coherent in the first place. Second level--proofing and continuity. I make sure that Xander isn't showing up for research while everyone has noted that he and Anya are off for a romantic weekend (ugh.) Third level--proofing, continuity, characterization, general flow and even plot development. The works. Major overhaul's-worth of suggestions. PLEASE No songfic. No Alternative Universes. No NC-17s, please. No PWP. I prefer to work on longer fics that fit together as a coherent whole than on a series of short fics that have similar themes/contiguous plotline, or on vignettes. All that having been said, I really am a nice person, and I've been told by other authors that I'm actually very helpful in putting stories together. Don't let all my criteria scare you off! I love working with inspired people who love the same bizarre Joss-verse that I adore, worship, and love to hate. |

Doyle, but I am notoriously squeamish about Doyle-torture and prefer to avoid fics in which Doyle is maimed, burned, starved, or otherwise physically harmed (emotional angst is OK). My first priority for beta-reading is for fics in the following collaborative ("shared-universe") series: The Power of Three (R-rated, C/D/A), The Descent of Cordelia (ongoing project set during Cordelia's extended vision in the season finale) and Doyle Investigations: City of Doyle (wishverse), as well as the Doyle: The Lost Years project (fics set between Doyle's breakup with Harry and "City of"). However, I am also interested in other Doyle return fics and Doyle ghost fics. I am slash-friendly and enjoy working with all possible pairings for Doyle, although the story must have a plot and not just sex. I will also beta-read fics involving Wolfram & Hart (particularly Brett, Tyler Christopher's character). Although I have some knowledge of law which may be useful, my legal background is strictly in New York State, not California, so my knowledge of legal procedure is of only limited value for stories centering around California practice. |
