I find them in 1850 census McMinn Co,TN with my gg grandfather,2 year old Houston Carter. In Jesse's pension papers it has information that Lavenia died between 1854-56 in Howell Co,MO. In his pension papers it says that Woodson Easley & Rutheford Easley Moody,Howell Co,MO. would know of her death. I don't know if this is a funeral home or her or Jesse's lawyers or just friends or relatives. I would appreciate any help I can get.

I hope to make a trip back there and go to the Court House and go through a lot of the records and see what else I can find out. The names that I am looking for are Upchurch, Walker,Roberson,Neal. So I hope that someone knows something about some of these.

Comments:Nice site and some good info.
I have been trying to gather up some info on the fraternal history of Howell County and particularly West Plains. I would appreciate anything that is related to any organization, whether it is still viable or not. I know that in 1910 there were over twenty fraternal groups in West Plains. Groups like the Masons, Odd Fellows, Knight of Pythias, Knights Templar, Grand Army of the Republic, Woodmen of the World, Modern Woodmen of America, Rebekahs, Eastern Star, and others. Most everyone that is involved in geneaological research will eventually trace their ancestors to being involved in some group or another.

Comments:I visited this site in hopes of finding information on my father's family. His father was John Hunter, who owned a small farm and worked on the railroad. I believe John Hunter's father was named William. I know they lived in the West Plains area early in the 1900's and until their deaths in the 1960s. I can't pull up your obituary pages, I was hoping some information would be there. Can you give me a link to your county historical society, or genealogy source?

Comments:Hello,
Your "post queries" site isn't working.
I am trying to find information about Doroty Chowning and his wife Ellen Carpenter. Doroty moved his family from Howell County to Snohomish County, Washington before 1894.
Ellen evidentally died in Snohomish County, because in 1900, Doroty had a second wife, Iva, who he married in 1897. She was only 5 years older than Doroty's daughter Pearl.
Thanks,
Dorothy

Comments:Nice Website. Especially enjoyed the section on Howell County history. My gggrandfather Noel J. Smith lived in Wright County from about 1850 through 1861, moved to Laclede County sometime before 1870 and from there made his way to Fulton County Arkansas by 1880. I dropped in to see if he left any traces in Howell County in his migrations. Also, my grandparents, Atha and Fye Smith, lived in West Plains for time during the 1930s and 40s, I believe.

Comments:I just stumbled onto this site. All I can get to is the guestbook. Is there a site that goes with it? I am searching for information, especially school pictures, or other pictures, from Willow Springs, MO School or Davis country school near there, in the 1940's. My siblings and I went to school there, also Las Creek and Halfway schools as well as White Church. Our house burned and with it all pictures, many years ago. Please reply by email. Would love to hear from anyone who knew my family.

Comments:Hello, very interesting home page for Howell County. My father was born in Koshkonong, Mo in 1909 and adopted to a family in Halltown Missouri in about 1914 0r 1915. Three of the four children were adopted. Their birth name was Riley and the sister that wasn't adopted may have married someone named Crow from West Plains or maybe Poplar Bluff. Also, I think the children may have been put in an orphanage in West Plains. If anyone knows about adoptions from that area in the early 1900s I'd like to be in touch. Would like to find cousins.
