| Comments: | Francis (Frank) A. Duncan and Mary E. Ingold were early ancestors in my family. They lived in West Plains, and had about 14 children. I am looking for photographs or letters or just further information about Frank and Mary.
I was able to find a file of Frank's death certificate. It says that he died of what is now considered to be Kidney failure. The certificate also uncovered the fact that he was born in St. Clair county, Illinois. There was a Francis Duncan who lived with a Sylathal (marked as Lafayette) and Mary Duncan in the 1870 census. Sylathal was a son of a farmer and war veteran named Abraham Duncan whose father was a Revolutionary war veteran. Abrah Duncan was a sergeant in a company of Calvary men with his brothers. One of whom served as a Lieutenant and later became a Mormon. |

| Comments: | This guest book has been very quiet through our long, hot summer. I've been busy, though, doing some updates to the site, adding some family histories submitted to me and doing an occasional look up.
At the moment, we're trying to find the location of the homestead of the late Charles Hoffman who died at the age of 86 in 1955. Anyone with information, please contact me. |

Her daughter, Ella Mae Hunsperger is buried in the Wayside Cemetery. Thanks for any help. |

| Comments: | My great-great grandfather, Thomas D. Burton, came to Howell county around 1858/9 and settled in the South Fork community. His son, Lemuel, married Harrriet N. Cooper (sister of Marcus Alexander Cooper) and my grandfather, John Thomas Burton, married Berta Frances Martin of West Plains. So the early Burtons, Coopers and Martins of Howell County are of great interest to me as I research my family tree. Thanks for the work you have done on this site. It is greatly appreciated my me. |

| Comments: | I did not think that I could back through to this Dreambook. I am still looking for information on a lot of my cousins that may still live down that way. I born and raised in West Plains and I would love to be able to go back and visit some time. The reason that I am looking for my cousins is that I am hoping that some of them may have some pictures of me when I was small and maybe in one of the little one room schools. I would also like to find out if someone may have or know where I can get my yearbooks from Jr. High and High School as in all of my moving around I lost mine. So if anyone knows please email me and let me know I would appreciate it very much.

| Comments: | Thank you for your hard work;very informative site! Several generations of my family were born, raised and died in Howell, Oregon counties and in MoKo, Fulton Co., Arkansas. It has also left me with many fond memories growing up as my father would always return to his family farm in Lanton, Mo. Many hours were spent walking the wooded timbers, long country lanes telling me stories of our Forester, Bench and Vincent families. Currently, I have been researching my grt. gft. grandfather, Elijah Forester (1826-1925) and have not been able to locate his final resting place. Some of my family records state he was buried in Stateline cemetery in MoKo, Arkansas; others indicate he was buried at Clifton just ouside of Thayer. We have been to Stateline numerous times since many of my family ancestors are buried there;however, have not been able to locate his grave or that of his wife, Linny England (Ingland). They were married in 1848 in Alton, Mo. Linny died in about 1882, and Elijah remarried Paralle Blankenship in 1883. According to records found ealier this spring at Alton courthouse, they were divorced in 1915. Secondly, I am also in search of information regarding one of Elijah's sons, Claborn Jackson Forester, who died in Fulton Co., Arkansas in 1931. His life was without doubt very colorful to say the least and many stories have been passed down through the years. He as without a doubt a moonshiner--and not afraid to defend his family or his intoxicating hobby. He was sent to prison (Jefferson City, Mo.) for killing someone. A couple of version say the killing happened in Thayer. One version was that it was a "Revenuer" and the trial was in West Plains. I am not sure of the time period but I am not able to locate him on a 1900 or 1910 census. Some family are guessing it may have been as late as 1920-1925. I am sure there was some press time given to the case as apparently, 4-5 men were approached by the "Revenuer" -- one being Claborn and apparently, shooting took place and since there was no positive proof of whose bullet killed the man the judge sentenced all the men. Claborn was sentence 10 years but it is said he didn't serve the complete term. Any help anyone can give me regarding this two men would be greatly appreciated--and please feel welcome to contact me directly at the above e-mail regarding this or any inquiries you may have regarding the above mentioned families. God Bless! |

I have been trying to gather up some info on the fraternal history of Howell County and particularly West Plains. I would appreciate anything that is related to any organization, whether it is still viable or not. I know that in 1910 there were over twenty fraternal groups in West Plains. Groups like the Masons, Odd Fellows, Knight of Pythias, Knights Templar, Grand Army of the Republic, Woodmen of the World, Modern Woodmen of America, Rebekahs, Eastern Star, and others. Most everyone that is involved in geneaological research will eventually trace their ancestors to being involved in some group or another. |
