hey. i happened to stumble across your deviantart site and i got led to here. i've been reading some of the criticism people have made to your site and i have to say that they are correct. please don't get me wrong. i think you're a wonderful artist. but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement. so PLEASE take my advice..
it seems to me that you love drawing characters. especially their face because that is where you put the most effort on. but sometimes you are too anxious to draw the characters that you neglect the backgrounds a lot. and that is what you should really work on. and as many other people have said. DO keep a ruler handy. but that doesn't mean that you can just pick up a ruler and draw a line. i've noticed that a lot of your lines (drawn with a ruler) are not straight. and that is something you should work on also. make sure you measure each side of the paper carefully before drawing them. this will give your manga a more organized look. i've noticed that all of you're pages are slanted either right or left. this is a major flaw. please fix it. you might say "oh its just the background. ptch. whatever. i don't care" this is a very wrong attitude. i've noticed that with your arcade machines, you did not put enough attention into them as your characters. you're characters seem almost flawless. but you're backgrounds do need a lot of work. and i believe that many people have told you this before as well. its always the little things that count. next time when you draw your backgrounds. leave the computer off and go outside. observe the trees and the shades. don't rely on photoshop brushes to get you through everything. what happens when your computer crashes one day and you can't afford a new one? and don't just say "oh well i'm going to take a drawing class so i can improve on my backgrounds because i suck at them." you didn't take a class on drawing people did you? exactly. if you do not love the backgrounds as much as your characters. there would be chance that you can improve and mature as an artist. every time you go out.. with friends or anything. observe your surroundings and take note of the lighting and shading. next time you draw, put these observations onto paper and that will greatly help improve your background skills. you should also observe the people around you. see how their hands are when they're doing certain things. look at the wrinkles on their clothes. you should try a different style of clothing as well.. because it seems to me that all the clothes on your characters come from the same brand. your brand. each character has a different personality and each, in turn, should have different styles of how they dress themselves as well. don't just think "i'm using this because its pretty" yes. pretty is nice. but make sure that it fits the character's attitude as well. be observant of your surroundings. drawing needs creativity and talent.. but a lot of it is also based on every day things. if you cannot give as much care to the backgrounds as to do to your characters, there is no way that you can become a successful artist. | |

you've come a long way...
