| Comments: Hi to all Rigbys! I am searching for answers to my line of Rigbys. We are either from Lancashire or Leistershire, not sure. My g-grandfather was John Rigby, and I believe either his brother or cousin was named Roger. Roger was a mining engineer and they came to the US in the mid to late 1800's. THey settled in Elizabeth or Clairton, Pa. The family is said to have owned a pottery business in the UK. Also started a college in Pa. where John's sister? Annie was the headmistress. If any of this sounds familiar I would appreciate any info, I have hit a large brick wall here. Thanks. E-mail: Aubergine50@aol.com | |

| Comments: I am part of the Rigby clan. But, I believe by default. As the story goes, my great-grandfather was a servant to somebody in the Rigby from the UK who decided to move to America. Upon arrival, my Great Grandfather took on his employers surname to gain entry into the country. It has been tough researching because it is hard to find out how far the name goes back in the family Nonetheless, your site has been helpful. Keep up the great work!!!!! | |

| Comments: I have a copy of the Genealogy of Descendants of The Rigby Family of Harrock Hall beginning with James Rigby (married to Mary Hankinson May 13, 1776. I also have the the Haydock Family tracing bach to the eary 1500s. There is a connection to the Rigbys somewhere along the line but the information I have is rather disjointed. I just now found this website. I will attempt to review all your requests and see if any of your ancestors appear on my trees. Please be patient. In the meantime, feel free to email me. By the way, my connection is with my maternal grandfather, Henry Rigby, of Warrington, England. However, it is my understanding that Henry and his wife, Mary Jane (Polly) Mather and a few of their earliest born children spent some time in the Maritimes of Canada (either Nova Scotia or New Brunswick) in the early part of the 1900s where Henry was involved in the design and/or building of a bridge. Family rumours also say that he has a role in Marconi's first trans-Atlantic cable. Does anyone have any information on this? | |

| Comments: Greetings. It is great to see this site. I am originally from South Shields in the north east of England. My father was Thomas Varley William Rigby and he too was born in South Shields. Somewhere along the line there was a connection between the Rigby family name and the Varley family name. I understand that there was also a connection with mining in the late Victorian times. Also, either my grandfather or great grandfather received a medal and other commenerations for saving lives in the North Sea. I would be interested to hear from anyone who can fit these small pieces of information into a family tree. Regards, Mark W Rigby | |

| Comments: Curious, as you get older (I'm 70) you begin to wonder about who there might have been in the family tree. I like the idea that I'm maybe related to St John Rigby, a Catholic saint, martyred around 1600. Not that I wish to suffer a similar fate, but I like his persistence in what he believed in and his sticking to his beliefs to the very end. I was born in Standish in Lancashire, now live far away in South Australia. Basically I'm English though, despite having 4 Australian kids and 10 Australian grandchildren, mostly living in Tasmania. | |

My father is Ronald Kenneth Rigby who was residing somewhere in Ohio the last time I checked. His father was Jack (John?) Rigby (deceased) also from Petersburg (but probably not originally). I believe my Grandmother's name was Beatrice Rigby. There was a T.J. Rigby of Missoula, Montana that I corresponded with briefly when I was a child. He may have been an uncle to Jack Rigby. Since my parents divorced when I was an infant and my contact with my father was minimal, I have no other details beyond this. Always looking for information to fill in the gaps. | Comments: Great to see so many Rigby families on your site. I would be interested in linking up with Rigbys esp from my home town of Wigan, Lancashire, England, who may be related. I live in Spain. My maternal ggrandmother Mary Rigby b 1849 of Wigan, married John Hall. She was one of 5 children of John Rigby b 1819 of Wigan and Elizabeth Melling. Her siblings were William (who emigrated to Canada and has descendants there), Ellen, Elizabeth and Catherine. John b 1819 was the only son of William Rigby b 1793 of Wigan who married Ellen Houghton. William b 1793 was the son of John Rigby b 1771 who married Ann Bamber. Their other son was named William. John Rigby b 1771 was possibly the son of John Rigby and Mary Lawson. Incidentally I used to teach at St John Rigby RC College at Orrell which holds an annual walk to the hall in memory of St John Rigby who was canonised while I was teaching there in the 70s. I have an extensive tree and further info to share with anyone who may be related.

| Comments: Hi! I've never before looked into my family history, so I decided that it was time to start. Don't know much about my father's side (Merle D. Rigby born 3/3/36 and died 9/6/95) as his father (Francis Rigby) was long deceased when I was born and we don't really have many relatives on the "Rigby" side. All I know is that my father was born in Cleveland, Ohio and his mother's maiden name was "Wright".I'd love to help in anyway and /or receive leads. | |

| Comments: I'm writing from Ontario, Canada. I don't know if anyone can help me or not,but I thought it might be worth a shot. I'm looking for Alice Rigby born about 1869. The 1901 census of Preston lists her as being 32 and born in Fernyhalgh. I have reason to believe her full name was Margaret Alice. The same census lists Elizabeth Rigby (age 65) as living with Alice and her husband Frederick Gerigs. I have no idea who Alice's father was, or if Elizabeth is her natural mother or her step-mother, but she appears as Frederick's mother-in-law. I would be very grateful for any information you may have, or even any hints :). Thanks in advance Margaret Alice (so named after my Aunt, who I believe was named after her Mother) | |

| Comments: Hi everyone. I'm Jim Rigby currently living in West Hartford, CT USA. I am seeking descendants and ancestors of Thomas Rigby born 1873 probably in Salford, UK. His parents were George Rigby and Jane Fairhurst. The 1880 UK census shows him living with his mother (who had remarried after George's death) in Ashton-under-Lyne. He emigrated to the United States before 1896 and settled in Pawtucket, Rhode Island USA. Thomas married Alice Lund in 1896 and fathered 7 children. He died in 1937 and is buried in Moshasuck Cemetery in Central Falls, RI. Thomas also had a brother about ten years older than him. Any info or leads appreciated. | |

| Comments: Hi, I am a Rigby too and, like most Rigbys, we come from Lancashire originally. My gg grandfather was George Rigby born in Wigan, Lancs c1871. He was the son of Thomas Rigby born Pemberton c1838 and Elizabeth ? born Kirkham c1842. Thomas was a collliery carpenter and Elizabeth was a cotton worker. They had 3 other children: Joshua, James and Mary Ann. George was the youngest of the four children and also worked at the local colliery (Bamfurlong). In approx 1896 George married Elizabeth ? a dressmaker born in Wigan c1880. The couple had a number of children as follows: Stuart, Mary Alice, Margaret and Frederick G. We have lost touch with this side of the family so if you are related in any way to any of the above, it would be great to hear from you. Elizabeth died and George married a widow - Mary Ann Higham (nee Taylor) in 1912. The couple went on to have 2 sons: Clifford and Ernest Rigby. Ernie Rigby is my grandfather - sadly, he died earlier this year. George was a keen sportsman and played Rugby for Lancashire. He was a loose forward, at first playing Rugby Union for Wigan and Prescott until the split when he changed to Rugby League(Northern Rugby Union). In the season 1894-1895 George was capped for Lancashire. From 1895-1902 he played for Wigan NRU. If anyone out there thinks they are related in any way please get in touch. LJ | |

I can only assume that there must have been a lot of ridges in Lancashire. My grand-father came from Wigan-still cant find the pier-but he moved to London at the turn of the 20th century and married in that area. If there is anybody out there I can give more details . Nice to join so many Rigby's. ps did you know that there is a town in Idaho called Rigby and they claim to have invented television.

| Comments: One more Rigby to add to the clan. My Grand Father Arthur Rigby (1897-1957)is from St Helens. His family includes Father Alfred (1868-1943), Mother Elizabeth (1865-1932), sisters Nellie and Elsie, and older brother John. They came to Toledo, Ohio in 1910. Any cousins out there? | |
