In the summer of 1984 I was travelling across the U.S. from coast to coast by car.

I was then a Film Editor in my mid-thirties. One of the rituals I had decided upon very early on in my travels was that I would "hit" the Yellow Pages in every large town / city I arrived in and look up the "Media" section. I was travelling alone and needed conversation. Meeting people from my own industry gave me the connection.

I stopped off in Colorado Springs in mid-July. Taurus Productions on 2502 East Pikes Peak Avenue was one of the fist I chose as a company I would like to visit.

When I introduced myself, I was welcomed very kindly and courteously, taken to the "inner sanctum" given coffee and shown the awards you had already amassed. Years have intervened and, sad to say, I can't remember the name of the man who spent so much time talking to me. But I thank him, again, for taking pity on a lonesome traveller.

This reverie all comes about because I have, lately, been opening cardboard boxes in my attic - and I came across the black presentation folder I brought away with me as a memento. Out of curiosity, I decided to look up Taurus on the internet.

I am so pleased to see that, not only are you still a trading production company, but that you have gone from strength to strength - and will do, I hope, for many more years.

Thank you for allowing me my moment of reverie on this cold, dreary February day in England.

Best of luck to you all for the future.

Trevor Keates

Incidentally, I also picked up a future ex-wife in Colorado Springs - maybe that has something to do with my memeories, too! :-)

Comments:Dear Ms Katrens: Thanks for the Cloud documentary.
What a very moving and spiritually healing story! You are truly an amazing woman and an inspiration. Cloud is forever in my thoughts, since his picture is the wall paper on my computer desktop. I plan to give my kid nephew ( a 5-yr old), a copy of the DVD for his birthday in August. As a suggestion, for future Cloud projects; maybe, a DVD with an animated?/hybrid version to reach a younger (than middle school) audience.Best wishes to you and your staff on your new and upcoming projects.

With blessings for a long, athletic and rewarding life.

We have enjoyed your documentaries of Cloud. You mentioned that you grew up in Ohio. I was wondering what part of Ohio. We live in South East Ohio, and enjoy our horses and our gaited mule, Sally. We watch your shows over and over, each time they are aired on PBS.
Thanks!!

Comments:Hi Ginger,
My husband and I stay at the Horseshoe Bend Motel and were introduced to your Cloud video at our first stay. Since then we have bought numerous videos to give out to our children and friends and this last weekend purchased two of the sets of Breyer horse family. We stayed a couple of days and drove the Pryors all the way to the Buffalo Jump and saw a small band of horses just into the range.
WE live in Edgar, MT with the Pryors as our backdrop out the kitchen window. We will be spending lots of time in the mountains searching for the wild horses we also love.

What a great film you shared with the world, Ginger!!

I am an avid horse-lover, and have always wanted to see wild horses roaming the nation's western mountains. If you would consider having me join you sometime, I would love to help out with your research on wild horses (I have an undergraduate degree in Biology). I emailed you a couple weeks ago regarding your research on Cloud; I am interested to know how he is doing. Are there any new updates that you can add to the Cloud Foundation's website? Please email me at the above address....I would absolutely LOVE to hear from you! I truly admire the work that you do, and I hope your Foundations and research are prospering with support to help save the wild horses!

I would so love to see a talent such as you take on the plight of all our wonderful equines in a film on the equine slaughter industry, from start to finish it's a horror and now the majestic wild horses are at risk. I know you have done work with the Doris Day Animal League, perhaps a collaboration? Sincerely Rebecca

Comments:Greetings:

I watched with fascination the documentary about Cloud this evening on PBS. My
mother was and is addicted to the equine and raised me to appreciate them as
well. One of my first jobs in High School was working on a horse ranch, I fell
from a horse and broke my arm severely, while riding bareback because I didn't
believe saddlery was the right thing for horses.

In any event, your documentary was both moving and thought provoking and I
enjoyed it immensely. The only thing I didn't enjoy is the fact there was no
ending but, given the subject matter, I guess there never is.

Thanks again for your work - I appreciate it greatly.

Comments:I just saw most of your film, "Cloud", on KERA in Dallas, Texas. The photography was so beautiful, impressive and touching that I immediately went to pbs.org to search for a way to thank Ginger Kathrens for her work and dedication to it.
I love nature and would prefer to spend most of my time out in it observing, photographing and writing. Unfortunately, I suffer from multiple disabling conditions, the worst of which is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Today I don't even have enough energy to take a shower. My limit is basically lying on the couch watching television (even reading is too tiring). You are probably familiar with the book and movie, "SeaBiscuit", by Laura Hillenbrand. She has made the public more aware of CFS than any other source.
I am so thankful for people like Ginger and Ken Burns who live their lives making documentaries for people like me who are stuck on their couches, whether by choice or not. Please continue to educate and astonish us with your work.

Thank you,

Dee Langford

Comments:I was watching "Cloud's Legacy" last night on PBS, when I realized that the powerful palomino stallion that my husband and I photographed (and thouroughly enjoyed watching with his family)last year in Pryor must be none other than Cloud. My husband got some lovely photos of him including a beautiful portrait shot of his face. I looked through the scanned slides last night just to be sure, and was thrilled to discover it was unmistakably him. We also have some of Sitka and a young foal. It brought back such happy memories...Thank You!!!

My dad was one of the key people living in MT in the 50's till he passed away in 2001 who rallied for protection of the wild horses. He lived in Billings but his second home was riding the ranges and meadows of the Pryor Mts. One of his horses, Hawkeye, was a rescued horse that someone had taken and tried to domesticate but did a poor and neglectful job.
I wish he could have seen your documentary. He would have loved it!! We feel so lucky to have seen and experienced this part of life with and through Dad.
We are anxious to check out your other productions.

Comments:Dear Ginger -

THANK YOU to you and your crew for making an AMAZING documentary on wild horses. I LOVE the Cloud DVD's that I got last month and could watch them over and over again. I think you do a wonderful job of portraying the wild horse in their "real" surroundings.

I hope that you can find the time to do a follow-up to see what Cloud is doing these days. I dont know, maybe you already have and its just not out on TV yet.

THANKS again!

Comments:My daughter and I just finished watching the DVD of Cloud, Wild Stallion of the Rockies. It took my breath away; I could smell the clean mountain air and my skin prickled like it was me watching there. For two hours we sat totally captured by Cloud and his wild bands of horses. We laughed at their antics, cheered at their resiliance and tenacity, melted at the dear babies, and held each other and cried when the wild turned harsh and cruel. What a privilege to be a part of these horses' world and follow them over such a span of time. We could never, ever have known this beauty and magnificent drama so unreachable except for Ginger Kathrens and her passion to bring it to us. Please tell us she is going to go back and continue the story! What happened to Sitka? Was the lump something benign that never caused her harm? Is little Storm all right? Was Red Raven able to keep the love of his life and have more foals with Blue Sue? Did Bolder continue to live up to his name and win a band of mares for himself? Have we been able to keep the BLM at bay from further damaging these beautiful horses? Is Cloud still so full of life and so like Raven, his father? So many questions! And so many heartfelt thanks for taking us to Cloud's remote home in the Rockies. Ginger Katherns shows us the world as it is meant to be and as it should be kept.
With much respect and appreciation,
