When things are good we really get along but when he decides to be a "shithead", things can really get nasty........in more ways that one. He has a mind of his own so there is no way of knowing what will be going on from one day to the next. But I am grateful that he is with me. The alternative is pretty grim. So Gomer and I will be together for the rest of our lives! |

| Comment on your choice of stoma name: | I've had three different stomas. The first was named by my mom back in 2001. She started to call it George because I resented the word "stoma" at the time.
In 2002 my Second Stoma was named Dubya. And the stoma that I have right now is named Jeb. Ironically all of these names weren't intended to reflect mine or my families views of the President or his family. So I am just leaving the the naming of my stoma's as an ironic look into early 21st centuary american political culture. Many years from now my stoma's will be mentioned as a side note in High School American Political History books. |

I thought of Carol Burnett and her show Mama. Carol's name in that show was Eunice. She was a pain too and always made me laugh so I went with Eunice for the stoma and while she can still be a pain, I am able to laugh at the situation rather than being frustrated. Naming it sure helped me get over the hatred I felt initially. Hatred is such a wasted emotion. Laughter is so much better. |

So Ithought why not call "Him" Stanley, so if i was out with my Hubby I could say "Stanley needs changing " or what ever the problem was.. Not "Help My Bloody stoma is peeing everywhere" LOL !

Nor is she particularly bright (frequently, she can be seen sitting, with rather poor posture, drooling.) However, she has a lovely disposition and a beautiful spirit. She'll carry water all day for me without so much as the slightest complaint. (I express my gratitude by treating her like the diva she is. I provide her with a new "dress" every three days!!) Since my stoma hails from the southern part of my anatomy, I thought it appropos to assign her my perception of a southern-sounding first name. Since every girl should be gifted with something pretty, I bestowed upon my stoma the middle name of "Summer." Anyway, my doctor came in my room one day, and my stoma made a noise of gas...and at that point, my doctor said immediatly, "You know, now you have to name it." By June I had been hospitalized 5 more times for bowel obstructions, so I had to have a very high ileostomy (actually a jejeunostomy). I was JUST beginning to come to terms with the colostomy, but the jejeunostomy was SO much more active. Also, I was having trouble keeping an appliance on for more than a couple of hours at a time.
It just seemed like my stoma would wait for the worst moment then erupt. So I started calling it "Little Vesuvius!" Works for me!! |

She removed the bandages on my ileostomy and was showing me how to take care of the skin and put on the new appliance. Well everytime she tried to get the skin clean and the appliance on, my stoma would flow again, and after the 3d or 4th time she said "Oh Noooo!". Some how that seemed like an appropriate name for my stoma, and unfortunately proved to be quite an accurate name. |

| Comment on your choice of stoma name: | I chose the name Belle for two reasons. First, I love "Beauty and the Beast". So I decided that my stoma could be Belle (the Beauty) and my bag could be the Beast. Second, I once had a cat named Belle and she lost the use of her back end and she could not control her bowl movements. We had to send her off to a farm so she could go whenever and wherever. So that is how my stoma, Belle, got her name:) |

| Comment on your choice of stoma name: | Stan is the colostomy.... 2 1/2 years old. Stella is an ileal conduit.... 1 1/2 years old. They're toddlers!! If I'd known I was gonna have two of 'em, I would've called 'em #1 and #2. Alas. I named Stan because I liked the alliteration of Stan Stoma. When I had the urostomy, I thought Stella went GREAT with Stan. Together, they are the Kowalskis from Streetcar Named Desire. (Tennessee Williams is either rolling over right now, or roaring with laughter.) Kinda odd --- I thought I was ORIGINAL in naming my stoma, and did it kind of automatically. I understand now that it was a coping mechanism; a way of distancing myself from them. Now....I actually THINK of them as people. Stan, definitely a man, is smelly, crude, and makes obscene noises. Stella is sooo much a lady: quiet, unobtrusive, but she never STOPS talking .....constant flow. At this point, everyone, even my doctors, asks how Stan & Stella are doing. They're more popular than I am. :-) |
