| Comment on your choice of stoma name: | Shortly after my mother received an emergency colostomy placement due to radiation treatment induced colitis, her stoma severely prolapsed. She had to wait 3 months in between surgeries (for healing) to have an ileostomy placed. Her prolapse almost completely filled her bag when not stimulated, and had the looks of a giant lobster when it was. Because of the pressure and weight, my then 57 year mother cradled her with her hand(s) while walking. She demanded our full attention!
I always loved the name Anna, and so it just came to me when we decided to name her, prior to the ileostomy surgery. We intermittently talk about her so much in public, a passerby might be thinking we are discussing a dear friend, or a very undisciplined child. She is 7 years old now and although Anna can at times be our main priority, she doesn't run the house anymore! "Thank God". |

We all get a little crazy on that day and dress up as flags...just kidding. Anyway I named my stoma SweetPea because the SweetPea is one of my most favorite flowers as the scent that magnificent flower puts out is almost beyond comparison. Something I can honestly say my stoma SweetPea falls a little short on but she does her job and that's all I ask of her. Well that and remaining as inactive as possible when I'm doing a change. I named her "Chai Gutsy" because it took a lot of guts to get to and have the surgery, and she saved my life (chai). For the first few months, I greeted her on changing with "Hi, Gutsy!" This was later shortened to "Gutsy." When I hit my 2 year anniversary, I might rename her, and will keep you posted... So, that is what I did, after the Wonderful Wons, I am now into the hopefully, Terrific Twos... 12/8/08 |

In 2002 my Second Stoma was named Dubya. And the stoma that I have right now is named Jeb. Ironically all of these names weren't intended to reflect mine or my families views of the President or his family. So I am just leaving the the naming of my stoma's as an ironic look into early 21st centuary american political culture. I thought of Carol Burnett and her show Mama. Carol's name in that show was Eunice. | Comment on your choice of stoma name: | I decided to name my stoma about 8 weeks after surgery. My mom and I were deciding on a name and she asked if it was a male of female. I said it has to be male since they are a pain in the butt. So George was born. I call him George when we are having good days, no problems..... He then turns into Jorge when thing go haywire!!!! Lately, Jorge has been showing up a little too much!!!! |

| Comment on your choice of stoma name: | After my second colostomy, I had problems with my hemogobins, and had to go to the hospital frequently for blood transfusions. Anyway, my doctor came in my room one day, and my stoma made a noise of gas...and at that point, my doctor said immediatly, "You know, now you have to name it." So, we, my husband and I, came up with 'Sophie'. Now my whole family knows who 'Sophie' is, and we laugh at times when she misbehaves. It really does help, to name your stoma. |

She had named her stoma, and that seemed so wise as a way of having a friend/companion instead of a "thing" or an enemy, like those nasty keepers on Babylon 5. Possums are an odd looking harmless critter toting a pouch--part of me now. |

She sometimes wants to engage in my conversations by passing gas and when she does, I just simply say to her, "Hush no one is talking to you." They just have the rectum on the side instead of the middle of my belly butt. I joke with my husband and tell him I have two butts. But then there are times I call it "nasty thing" when it messes on me while I am changing my pouch. And then there has been times when changing it that it will mess in the floor without me knowing that I am doing it and then I have a messs to clean up and then I call it "nasty thing". I guess that is my angry name for it. |

| Comment on your choice of stoma name: | Currently, I have two stomas. "Blanche" is my mucous colostomy and "Stella" is my ileostomy. They each have very different personalities...Blanche is so dramatic, while Stella is much more reserved. Stella will be leaving me this July. |
