Dear Members,
Many thanks to those of you who attended regular training sessions during November, hard work shows in results. Our first match of the month was U 14 boys V Terenure an amazing match which saw a score of 24 - 16 in our favour. That same weekend the U 14 A girls travelled to Navan to play Meath and won 27 goals to 9. Not to be out done the U 16 girls, playing as senior ladies this season beat D.C.U. at home 26 - 19. The U 14 boys were a force to be reckoned with in Tallaght when they were drawn against Sligo, no problem for the Lughnasa lads with an easy victory of 30 goals to 4. The U 12 boys and girls had a very successful tournament in Maynooth on the 26th with both teams overall winners in their section.
Fixtures for Dec: U14 boys V Kildare- Home 1/12
U16 girls v N.F.R. - Boyle 3/12. U14 B girls V Meath - Home 8/12. U 16 Girls V D.I.T. 8/12 ( to be confirmed). U16 Girls V Terenure - Home 15/12.

Lughnasa Table Quiz, Cuckoo’s Nest,
Sun 10th Dec. €10 per person.
First round 7:30 sharp!
Quiz master: 98 FM‘s Tom Brannigan
A big Lughnasa welcome to our new players;
Pamela - U16 girls, Oisin and Mahon - U14 boys, Roy, Karl, Jamie, Sean and Adam - U 16 boys.
Playing in his first ever handball match Adam scored 5 goals against Kildare last weekend. Roy broke the Lughnasa record for the most goals scored in a match with 18 goals in the same match. Well done the U14 lads who stepped up to help the U16 lads. Score 26 -24 to Kildare.
Handball shoes: we would strongly advise all our players who have handball shoes to wear them to training as well as matches. These shoes have built in support designed to cushion the joints, reducing the risk of injury and damage. For those interested I have a small selection of handball shoes in various sizes available on a first come first serve basis at a cost of €40.00.
Subs for December now due:
We are very grateful to all of you who paid your Nov subs at the start of the month, it has helped to make training sessions more time efficient.
Training times:
U 16/ U 14 A girls - Wed 2:45, Fri 7:45
Boys U 16/U14 - Mon 4:15, Fri 6:45
Girls U 14 B - Wed 3:45, Fri 5:45
Home matches:
players should be registered to play and in club gear 45 minutes before kick off.

U 14 Boys V Terenure 24 -16

November and December Birthday wishes to
Aisling, Elaine, Susan, Sophie, Grace S, Aoife, Colin, Conor, Shauna B, Lauren, Noella & Kevin

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Iveagh on the birth of baby Preston. Hopefully he will follow in Colin’s handball footsteps!

Hey lads, what´s d story with the guest book? Did the girls take over the club? ;-)

Hope you´re all doing well and are ready to take back the title next year.

I´m fine. The business is quite busy at the moment. The first training sessions for the new season just started last week. But in the moment it´s just way too hot down here. 35°C, that´s about 95°F...

Allright, I´m off for the pool and a cold shower. And then we´re gonna kick-ass bloody Italy tonight!!!

Hope to meet you all soon or later.

http://www.myspace.com/tikehau GOSH! So good to come across your website!!! I don't know if you remember me... I played for a year with you guys at Lughnasa, refereed college games, traveled with you to Nottingham for a tourney... then fell off the face of the earth.

Quick update though there's a long story behind all this: I now live in the US, in Kansas City. Arsehole of the Planet... but super convenient to travel from. Obviously no olympic handball. I help Mary Dwight, former member of the US team to teach a handball course ONCE A FREAKING YEAR. Argh. Not enough. But hey, that's the way it is.

I'm so glad to see that you're all doing great... Tom, Ciaran, Andrea... I have very fond memories of you all and I wish you all the best.

Take care,

Erv

Just want to congratulate you on the title!
Well Done Lughnasa!

And can't help commenting on your little discussion here below...:
-Nobody took better care of me (a foreigner arriving in Dublin in 1992) than Tom. Europhobic No Way! Thanks to Tom I could keep playing this beloved sport; Tom was the only one keeping up regular training sessions in all of Ireland!

Nationality is irrelevant. People aren't. And the game keeps them together. Just play the game and enjoy it!

I think Tom is wrong about fund from EHF.
Even if you go into the EHF web you can found that there is a program of development and Ireland is included, that means that you receive fund and support from EHF, the problem is where the money go.
In someone's pocket? Wrong used? I don't know, ask maybe IOHA can give you an answer.

Since somebody mentioned my name I believe I have to say something.
I would like to remember that when I coached Lughnasa, the team was mainly formed by Irish lads. We played the final twice and lost by only two goals. And we play against two of the strongest teams ever been in Ireland (DCU 2001 and DCU 2002). It is unfair to simply look at the last year.
Also I believe it is a lack of respect toward Samir and Senad to speak about their nationality (whichever it is) in the terms used.
I believe only S & S are authorised to decide if to be called Kurjak or McKuriach!
For what concern my self. Yes, I can get an Irish passport no problem (which mean I am already an Irish citizen) and I would be honoured to play for the Irish team. So what am I? Irish or Italian? I say both. And if you are really a complainer, then, tell me what my son Liam is(Ongaro or Ungárach or O’Ngaro as the TV licence says)? Irish or Italian? And in ten years time what will he is going to be?

no one is euro phobic no one is more pleased than i that we have such a great foreign contingency playing, however our goal is to produce irish players without which, we would have no funding from the EHF, and so would have no official recognition and therefore would not be able to play competitive handball in this country. Enough of the insults and the negativity. I never heard anything like this before when a team won a title. Sign your name also as anonymity is the refuge of the coward. tom

well...
1)Tom should thanks the NON-Irish if the Irish have decent games and decent teams to play against...or simply thank them if irish people can plat at all.
2)True, and Irish passport does not mean these are product of irish handball development. Have to be carefull to do not have false prospective.
3) Antonio, Ianik, Andrea, Gianni, Robert, Bister, my self and more, spent in Ireland as much as the Kurjaks and Markus. Would this make them Irish? Andrea, Gianni, Bister and Emiliano also are intitled to irish passport. If I am right Andrea also coached both Lughnasa and the irish team
4)Lughnasa worked hard since August. This make them to deserve the title. But...did they worked right?? Are they really a good team? they won buy 2 goals versus teams which never train, with a 16 years old keeper, or a keeper playing on the line since no more players were available. And with 70% of goal scored coming from Marco and Alair. Remember the first few min of Lughnasa vs DIT?
5) all this discussion is stupid and come from a bitter foreigner....a foreigner tired to be insulted and not appreciated by a Europhobic guy as Tom is. It is right to love your country, but wrong to hate all the others. If we moved here and stay here is because we like here, and we like handball, and you have no right to insult us.
----and my english is bad but not worst of your, spanish, French, italian, german, or Irish!!

hey guys
congratulations on your victories - its about time you won something! (just kidding!) the foreigner accusation is pretty groundless and totally pointless! we do appreciate what you guys do for irish youth handball! also enough with the DCU bashing - we're trying! we started a second team this year expressly to develop irish players but it didnt work out totally to plan with only 3 irish players (and one irish cripple!) on it! but our girls team is 90% irish! eoin (DCU)

Who the hell is this player guy and who does he tink he is?
Your only argument is that Lughnasa has a few foreign players.Yes the do but in a team of mostly Irish players but still they won the title.if these all important foreign players are what won them the title, why are teams made up ENTIRLY of foreign players not champions?answer me this.I am from UCD,we are graceous in defeat.whoever you are,be glad you can play handball in Ireland, stop trying to insult people, learn some english and stop trying to make good players feel bad.you're obviously michumasach.slan go foill.Congrats Lughnasa. One more thing, people are annoyed with your intrusion on their GUESTBOOK,it is not a political message board.leave it for it's sincere use.

There are many players from this league that can get an irish passport, will you consider them irish?

i think i know who player is someone with an inside knowledge of our team all the players someone perhaps who has played with the club before. we don't appreciate this kind of subterfuge we have nothing to fear i call on all those whose names have been besmirched by this former player to stand tall and be counted. Do not be afraid player is in the gutter and is not looking at the stars he is bitter and resentful because of his behaviour and this is the only way he can lash out. i have washed my hands of this discussion evryone in handball knows that apart from saint pats and lughnasa and perhaps UCD tno other teams promote irish players. DCU a long time ago but no more. Watch out in the next few years our academy players will be on the scene. They need to be welcomed not derided. How else can we promote our great sport. For player i say family is far more important than sport. Lughnasa is a family look to yours!!!!!!!

Player, why don't you be a 'man' and tell us who you are??
What are you scared of??

Lughnasa Senior Squad 2005
Johnny Foreigners: Marco (Estonia)
Alar (Estonia)
Peter (Germany)
Tiny Tim (Germany)
Andre 3000 (Germany)
Fighting Irish: Tom Boy
Paul Gray
Robbie
Mick
Jaysus Jimmy
Samir
Senad
Marcus Arelius
Paul Rueter
Dave

Senad, Samir and Marcus are Irish citizens and whilst Paul Rueter and Dave were born in Arklow we won't hold that against them.
Thats 10 Irish and 5 Continentals.
As for the famous Lughnasa Youth Academy, we have a couple of former graduates of that now playing for UCD and in Norway.

"Player", you are not well informed so read some facts here:
1. I would have loved to play another season for this great team. Unfortunately, I couldn't. At the moment I'm only supporting the club by managing this website.
2. Samir and Senad are Irish, they even play for the Irish national team and Samir is coaching our U18 team. That makes 9 Irish in the current team: Ruts, Mick, Tom, Jimmy, Dave, Paul, Robbie, Senad, Samir.
3. There's not even a point counting since there's not the slightest doubt about what this club and especially Tom O'Brannagain is doing for our sport in this country. Handball in Ireland wouldn't be the same (if still existing at all) without his tireless efforts and enthusiasm! Every member of the club ("even" the foreigners - believe it or not!) is contributing to the developement of this sport in Ireland!

With 2 Russian, 2 Bosnian and 3 German,I think that more than 50% of the team is from abroad.

On another note i am announcing my retirement from the game on medical advice.

jesus christ how will handball ever take off in ireland if idiots like this are around. Player get on board and encourage your sport. Bloody hell in the overall scheme of things do you think anyone gives a shit who won a shitty irish league. Good luck to the boys who did and shut up whining. get on with it and your sport could actually be more popular, maybe even the level might get better, our teams from the eighties all mixed foreigners and irish would give you lot today a good humping. don't forget jimmy addie he's irish, don't forget the 20 or so young guys coming through, don't forget the 30 young girls with another 50 waiting for entry to the club, fair paly to lughnasa you deserve it after all these years. And fair play to all the players on all the other teams that made it impossible for irish guys to win every year. Let's hope the newer teams which had irish guys playing can watch the foreign players playing and get up to standard that is what lughnasa did. Hair long don't give back your medal. Paul rueter run for government what a diplomat! Player get training a junior irish team i hear they really need foreign people to help them with their development because as we all know the irish guys know nothing about handball :-) get a life player!!!!!!!!!

"Players" comments are a tad pathetic and should be ignored as such. Lughnasas' commitment to Irish players development is well known and is proven every week at our training. No more need be said on that subject.
Also I don't think a previous comment regarding DCU's victories is either fair, accutate or helpful. They have been a consistantly strong team to play against which is more important to our development than any other single factor. What they won, they won and deserve credit for it.

"Player" propably even isn´t a real player, but his one and only task is to keep the bench nice and warm.
