Thank you for what you're doing to support the members of our Armed Forces and those in this world in need. I wish more well-known people would accomplish half as mush as you in this area.
Mr. Sinise, I spent 20 years in the U.S. Armed Forces and I am now disabled and unemployed. It has been a most difficult transition and, although the VA has provided some assistance, I have failed to secure a job. If you find this message inappropriate, I apologize. I never thought I'd find myself writing to someone as yourself, in a public forum, asking for a break.

Operation Happy Note is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization sending music instruments to our deployed troops free of charge. We are asking Gary or Lt. Dan Band to consider helping Operation Happy Note in sending the Joy music brings to our deployed with a donation of $200.00 or more. A $200.00 dollar donation would send from 6 to 10 instruments depending on size and weight. The purpose of these music instruments is to relieve stress and raise morale. As you may know some of these service men and women are now on their 4th and 5th deployment. According to the letters we receive music is a great stress reliever. We do have a large inventory of donated instruments, which have been donated by Great Americans, but have a GREAT need for funding to get them to the soldiers. It costs an average of $15.00 to $35.00 to ship an instrument, our last inventory show that it would take over $20,000.00 to send the instruments we have on hand.
To date we have sent 2700 plus instruments including guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, horns, harmonicas and accessories in fact anything that makes music to our military, we receive up to 350 requests weekly for music instruments. It’s sad to see these instruments sitting on the shelf when they could be in the hands of one of our brave service men or women.
Some FAQ’s about Operation Happy Note: Steve and Barb Baker owners of Fergus Music in Fergus Falls, Minnesota started Operation Happy Note in March 2005. It started with just one guitar being sent to Barb’s son (SSG Marte Byrne of the 134th Signal Battalion “Red Bull Division”) as a birthday present after being deployed to Iraq. He had a buddy who saw it and wanted one and then another buddy. It was decided to hold a fundraiser so we could send more guitars to his unit, and we just never quit. Hence Operation Happy Note
Operation Happy Note just kept growing and then the media caught wind of it in June of 2007, starting with an article on the front page of the Washington Post. Operation Happy Note was featured on NBC News with Brian Williams on “Making a Difference”. Barb has been on Fox News “Your World” with Neil Cavuto, and on Fox and Friends, There was a write up in the November 2007 issue of Guide Posts magazine, the December 2007 issue of Reader’s Digest and in October 2007 a documentary filmed on the Hallmark Channel.
We are also very proud of the Certificate of Recognition we received from Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty in February 2008.

He was the first Hollywood Star who had the guts to stand up for our country. Tony Snow radio and tv talk show host, did several shows with Gary and about Gary. Gary also took school supplies, to Iraq and helped get the schools up and running. I watched the FOX News documentary "On the Road in Iraq With Our Troops" today and heard mention that your uncle was a B-17 navigator in WW2. So was mine. He flew in the last bomb raid over Germany with the 8th Air Force. Was your uncle a "short snorter"?

I am a retired nurse from The USAR. I have never served over seas. It is so very wonderful to see how you have embraced your role supporting the Troops wherever they may be stationed. Congratulations on your Award for all you do. I live a very populated military town , Yuma Arizona. We have all brances of the service including MCAS_YUMA, and the Yuma Proving Grounds. When I shop on base, my heart is so very proud and I just smile and say thank you to the men and women in uniform. Many of the students at the school where I work are from a Military family. In time of their own need when parent(s) are deployed, it is good to be able to service them with a place where they can to go to to talk or just sit quietly.
