Comments:If you can't see it from the 3rd row, it doesn't exist!

Without costumes and sets, it would be called a concert (refering to musicals)

We are dressing your character, not you, dear (when confronted with a cranky high schooler who doesn't like their costume. did I mention that the more they complain, the uglier the costume we give them (well within the boundries of the show of course)

No safety pins, no straight pins, NO PROBLEM - Mr. Stapler to the rescue!

Comments:Said to dancers (with a wink):
"It's not how you feel, it's how you look--or that's what they told me in design school..."

Said to me by a dancer:
"Without you, we'd be naked!"

Really enjoy the site--would be good if you deleted the lame ads put in the dreambook though--detracts from all of the great submissions. :)

Comments:I love your site! I've just done my first show as costume director, for an amateur theatre company in the city where I live. The show was Bugsy Malone, complete with "splurge" which was meringue mix and pies. We had so much fun doing it, despite the fact that the costumes had to be sponged every night!
I have a couple of quotes from this show, some from me, some from the kids in the show:

"If they are looking at THAT, then it's fairly obvious they didnt come to see you acting, darl"

"But this dress is famous, it's written in the script that you're supposed to look horrible in it!" (about a dress that gets mocked by several characters)

"I love show business. It's pure madness, everywhere you turn there's something crazy happening....like those guys over there, wrestling on the floor, and those people (there was 5 or 6 of them) wearing matching pyjamas"

"You realise you're crazy, don't you?" (on hearing that we had to clean the costumes after every "splurging")

"I haven't stabbed a kid with my scissors yet" -after being asked how everything was going after the 3rd dress rehearsal

:) have a great day!

Comments:Quote from the University of Michiga-Flint Costume Shop with regards to a grave error in seam allowance by a student cutter/stitcher resulting in the need for a costume coverup...

"Well, whatever you can't fix you should just draw more attention to" --Monica to the student laughing hysterically because if she didn't she and the student would have cried!!

And so a large butt-bow bustle was born to fix the error. And it was good--very good!

" There are no cutter errors, only design decisions!"

And in my own shop I am known for the statement:

"We don't have time for the academically correct method, so we'll do it the fast and sleazy way!"

I recognize that quote. That's from "The Curious Savage." We did that play in high school, and was on the shirts we got for all the cast and crew.

Eh. Oh well. "Normal is overrated."
