| Comments: | I was brought up in HB & it was very nostalgic to ride along Midgehole & look down at my old home . My sincere thanks to all the organisers and helpers who made the event such a big success, including the chili - I got the last portion !! I hope to put a blog out in the fullness of time on www.tri24.com I might have missed it, but it would have been v useful to have had a washpoint somewhere at the finish - not so much to wash my bike as to get the mud off me..If there was a tap available my apologies.. Good luck for 2012.. |
| Name: | Paul Mallinson |
| Comments: | Thanks to all volunteers involved!! seemed to be a much larger number of them this year. Roll on 2012 event. Just a suggestion, with number of entrants ever increasing it may be getting to the point where a staggered start is necessary? stop the middle sections clogging up. thanks again |
| Name: | Roger Stubbs |
| Comments: | Fantastic event, it was well organised and very friendly, fell off a couple of times, but always got help after. plenty of fun in the muddy bits, more of them than I am used to.All ready trying to recruit people to take part next year, I will definitely be there in 2012. |
| Name: | Paul McRae |
| Comments: | Fantastic event. This was my first and whilst knackered by the end, thoroughly enjoyed the day and was pleased with my 3hr.45min time - which I will beat next year!! Many thanks to the organisers and volunteers. I thought the event was very well organised and the course marked out very well. My only suggestion would be to have some power washers or a hose at the end. You could charge £1-£2 per wash and think a lot of people would pay. Well done again and already looking forward to 2012! |

| Comments: | Thank you for the excellent event yesterday it was a great ride mud and all! hopefully i will be back next year. |
| Name: | Dom Goldthorp |
| Comments: | Another year another fantasically organised event. Thanks to all of those responsible for making this a great event. |
| Name: | Steven Hadcroft |
| Comments: | Last Year:8hrs... this year:3hrs... At that rate next year I'll be finished before anyones even turned up. Cheers to everyone involved!! Top event with a great route to boot! Until next year! |
| Name: | Andy Coughtrey-Smith |
| Comments: | Great event, first one I've done. Well organised and marshalled. Will be back next year. |
| Name: | John Firth |
| Comments: | Thanks to the organisers and volunteers and congratulations to all those who competed and hopefully finished the event. Well organised and marshalled throughout. Very muddy conditions added to the challenge. Did it in 2009 and this year and both years it was a mud fest especially up on them moors, but still fun. Ta. |
| Name: | neil bedforth |
| Comments: | Great event. Marshalling and waymarking was far better this year. Thanks for listening to our comments and making improvements. Chilli and Econa hot pepper sauce at the finish. Superb! Oh - could you level out midgley moor in time for next year? :o) |
| Name: | TONY GLEDHILL - EVENT CONTROLLER |
| Comments: | MANY MANY THANKS ON BEHALF OF OUR SCOUTS AND ALL OUR COMPETITORS TO THE MANY PEOPLE, SCOUTS, PARENTS, FRIENDS, SCOUTERS, ROTARY MEMBERS AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO TOOK A SOAKING TODAY TO ENABLE THIS EVENT TO TAKE PLACE. FROM THE MANY POSITIVE COMMENTS I HAVE RECIEVED I BELIEVE EVERYONE INVOLVED ENJOYED THE DAY. PERSONALLY, WITH CHINESE TAKEAWAY AND GLASS OF WINE I'M GLAD THE DAY'S OVER (IT STARTED AT 3AM FOR ME) AND KEEN TO START PLANNING NEXT YEAR. LOOKING FORWARD TO 14TH OCTOBER 2012. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN THEN. |

| Comments: | My first Calderdale marathon... probably not my last! Thanks to all the organisers & marshalls, an excellent event, well run. Could you make it less muddy next year please? (Oh and a drag lift up the last climb would be most appreciated!!) |
| Name: | Malcolm Street - CMBM Team |
| Comments: | Yes, we are aware of this and we have made provision for this. Our sweep team rode the track last week and found it relatively easy to negotiate. A diversion around it will be well signed and a marshal will be in attendance. This section is only about 100m long - we thought you mountain bikers would enjoy a challenge! |

| Comments: | Whats going to happen at Soyland by the old airfield? Went over there on friday and there is tonnes or rocks on the path |
| Name: | Malcolm Street - CMBM Team |
| Comments: | Welcome to this years event! We have taken on board all the comments that we have received – thank you. Yes the signs will be far more visible this year, and more of them – red and dayglow orange on white. We have moved our registration and finish 200 yards down the road to the Sowerby Tennis & Bowling Club where we used to hold the event. This venue has more and better toilet facilities as well as being nearer to the car park. We hope to see you all there! |
| Name: | neil bedforth |
| Comments: | Looking forward to this year's ride but sincerely hope hope that direction signage is MUCH better than previously! |
| Name: | hugh broadbent |
| Comments: | Throughly enjoyed my third CMBM and got a PB!!! I'm a vet and in previous years the ages of competitors was indicated but not in 2010. For oldies it's great to find out how many wipper snappers you finished in front of and how many/few oldies were better than me. If ages are still available can they be published or is that ageist? If so bring it on!!! Really well organised, fantastic feeding stations and marshalls - hope the legs an lungs will be up for it in 2011 |
| Name: | Robert Davies |
| Comments: | Another great event this year! Superbly organised with a really supportive and friendly atmosphere from both entrants and Marshals. Well done 24th St Paul's scout group! |
| Name: | james gill |
| Comments: | great event well marshalled and very tough! excellent |
| Name: | Jonathan Keir |
| Comments: | 2010 CMBM was my first proper MTB event and was very impressed with the overall organisation of the entire day. The route was interesting and challenging and the marshalls were great. I'm not a sadist - the last climb was a killer, but hopefully I'll be back next year to try and beat my time. Just one shout out to the guy who's rear mech broke about 30km in - hope you managed to turn it into single speed and finish the ride! Thanks, Jon |

| Comments: | Fantastic event very well organized should be twice a year in April and October. Bring it on. San K |
| Name: | Charlie Bamford |
| Comments: | Unfortunately my skill as a mechanic let me down before & during the race; my chain snapped! Fortunately a good samaritan stopped & helped me fix it. In times where the sense of community spirit & camaraderie is so lacking in society it is great to experience such kindness. Next year I will return hoping to go all the way round! |
| Name: | John Burns |
| Comments: | Thoroughly enjoyed the day despite missing the start by 20 mins due to the toilet queue. The sportsunday photos capture the essence of the event ie. get caked in muck, fall off, laugh, carry on. A great selection of acrobatics and bike wrestling photos. Thanks to all concerned |
| Name: | Mitch Jones |
| Comments: | Spot on grub at end. need new signs! maybe a bit bigger and brighter for us that need glasses. Apart from that great stuff. |
| Name: | colin stothart |
| Comments: | had a good day thanks to all the marshalls short of a few signs here and there |
| Name: | Jonathan Noble |
| Comments: | Was great weather this year, did nothing to improve my time!! Please can we have more loos next year? Great event!!! |
| Name: | Paul Bromley |
| Comments: | A big thank you to all the marshalls who were fantastic! Had a brilliant time, especially a couple of comedy tumbles in the mud! |
| Name: | neil bedforth |
| Comments: | I thought yesterday's event was really good. Great route and well stocked feeding stations. One criticism - the waymarkers were dark red with black text and often fixed to brown posts. Very difficult to pick them out esp. if totally new to the event/route. Flourescent green would be much better. |
| Name: | Jason Gill |
| Comments: | Had a great day yesterday, this was my first ever challenge and really enjoyed the course albeit gruelling in places! Wonderfully organised - a big thank you to all the helpers and marshals who looked after us and well done Scouts on a successful event! |
| Name: | Tony Glynn |
| Comments: | 3rd year and, even though it was a beautiful day, it does not get easier. Marshalls were great as usual, thanks for the encouragement and banter. See you next year. |
| Name: | Mick Condon |
| Comments: | My first time doing the event and its a hard one. The event was well marshalled and a great if rather muddy at times route. My only complaint and it is minor is that the signs could be a better colour so they stand out more. will deff be back next year. |
| Name: | Jon Gildea |
| Comments: | I Really enjoyed the ride yesterday, thanks for providing a well organised event with a great atmosphere! |
| Name: | Ian Chapman |
| Comments: | A great day out and very well organised! Thanks |
| Name: | vivien from Halifax |
| Comments: | Great admiration for all that took part in the event, but wish that you cyclists would give a little thought to people walking parts of your route. Its quite scary to have high speed bikes coming from behind round a tight bend, especially when we didn't know the event was on. |
| Name: | Kevin - Leeds |
| Comments: | Have done this event 5 times now and every year it's the same - great route with a good mix of terrain, LOADS of Marshals/helpers who seem genuinely happy to be there, LOADS of feed stations which are well stocked, food and drink at the finish and this year a t-shirt of questionable colour choice! :o) See you again. |
| Name: | simon capstick |
| Comments: | Another great event, i really do enjoy this challenge, it gets faster and faster every year, i only wish i did. as always, next year will be my best year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only negative was the lack of toilets, but a superb event |
| Name: | Malcolm Street |
| Comments: | Thanks to everybody who entered this year - we hope you had a good time. The results for this year are now available on this site. Enjoy! |

| Comments: | great route fantastic off road one of the hardest challenges |
| Name: | Danny Meakin |
| Comments: | No what you mean man! I had to stop for a big poo as well |
| Name: | Stephen Leigh |
| Comments: | Excellent event, maybe could have done with a port a loo along the way as I had to curl one out watched by sheep. oh well. Exemplery organisation and great hospitality! |
| Name: | Danny Meakin |
| Comments: | Also my team mate Paul Bridgwater finished in front of me. But on results he is two places behind. Paul Bridgwater 2hrs 13mins 41 secs Daniel Meakin 2hrs 13mins 59 secs |
| Name: | Danny Meakin |
| Comments: | As a keen 10 mile time triallist I found it really good fun riding the off road route. Thanks |
| Name: | Ro Cole |
| Comments: | Thanks - that feels much better! Anyway thanks again for a brilliant event and much appreciation for all the work. |
| Name: | Malcolm Street - CMBM Team |
| Comments: | Sincerest apologies to all for the mistakes in the results - Rob you're older again, Ben has more life to live and I have performed the necessary "surgery" on Ro to make her a woman once more. I thought I was being clever to get the results on line the same day, but I guess a 5.30am start and staring at my laptop all day long while you were all outside enjoying yourselves didn't help. This coupled with Excel sorting all the columns except the Age one didn't help either. Now I know why IBM were so called - Infernal B******* Machines! |
| Name: | Robert Davies (052) |
| Comments: | What a great day, superb organisation, excellent marshalling and a good route with a wide variety of terrain to cover. First time I've done anything like this and will definitely be back next year... and considering I'm now only 15 years old (thought I was 37!), I'll be coming back for a lot more years than I originally thought. Unfortunately, due to this error, my wife is now being questioned by the police for suspected paedophilia! Thanks CMBM!?! |
| Name: | Ben Pygott(age 14 not 34) |
| Comments: | great event and friendly people at the bottom of hard castle crags food station. really pleased with my time as last year i did it 4:00 and this year 2:36!!! thanks again and see you all next year |
| Name: | Carolyn Brindle |
| Comments: | Great event again thanks. Apologies to the two marshalls who heard me swearing loudly on the last steep narrow bog-fest, well at least they thought it was funny, girls on pink bikes shouldn't swear ;-) My age is wrong as well you've added four years, not that it matters ! |
| Name: | Ian Miller |
| Comments: | I did the race for the first time on Sunday. It was really hard work and I had not prepared nearly enough. It absolutely chucked it down for the first hour or so and at times it was so windy I had to pedal to make any progress down hill. But it was fantastic. Can't wait until next year. |
| Name: | Peter Butler |
| Comments: | Well, probably just reiterating what most have already said but none the less....an excellent day out, extremely well organinsed and a great route round, compliments to all the organisers and volunteers. Must watch out for the low flying malt loaf next year though...thank you Mark! (RE: comments Mark Loveridge posted Sunday, October 11th 2009 - 03:45:05 PM) |
| Name: | Ro Cole |
| Comments: | I really enjoyed it too. My first mass event like that. I not only got younger but had a gender change at the event as well, I started as a 47 year old woman but in the results I am a 42 year old man!! Anyway, thanks to the organisers (but I am happier female). |
| Name: | Keith Dilly |
| Comments: | Many thanks for a superb day out. I thoroughly enjoyed this well organised event. The course was great with good marshalling and marking. Please pass on thanks to all who were out in the rain, guiding the way and holding open gates and to the crew at the finish handing out goodies. The only course improvements I would suggest are larger (or brighter) markers and clearer route indication for the last part through town (before the last road climb). A totally fun event with a great atmosphere. I am convinced bike racing keeps me younger, proof is in the results; I'm back to being 36 (from 41). Thanks again for a super day out. Hope you raised plenty of funds. See you again next year. Regards, Keith |

| Comments: | I hope everyone enjoyed themselves - the 2009 results are now on the website. |

| Comments: | Great event well organised friendly people volunteering. Should you wish to promote the event next year or need support with a plotted map of the route I am more than happy to do this as my role as Calderdale Cycling Officer. See you next year! |
| Name: | Jack Clarkson |
| Comments: | was well marked out but should use brighter signs next year marshalls should be ready for when the first riders are coming through good fun and enjoyed it tho bit bumpy on the cyclo x bike :) cheers |
| Name: | Tom Benham |
| Comments: | This is the first time I have done the CMBM, I just wanted to say what a fabulous day I've had. The organisation was fist rate and all the volunteers that help direct, feed and generally cheer up the soggy riders were fantastic. I will definitely be riding again next year. MANY THANKS !! |
| Name: | Mark Loveridge |
| Comments: | First time entrant to the CMBM and I would like to express my gratitude towards the organisers, route marshals, refreshment personnel and the poor gate keepers on route. It was a well organised, well planned and varied route that was thoroughly enjoyable. I only went over the handle bars once and lost time trying to retrieve my malt loaf that was ejected from my rucksack! Will definitely return next year and eat more of the big purple wrapped chocolates from that well known brand. |
| Name: | Wayne McIntosh |
| Comments: | Thoroughly enjoyed todays event, superbly organised & one of the best marshalled & waymarked routes i have done! Big well done to everyone Involved! |

| Comments: | Weather Forecast for Sunday - Cloudy with sunny intervals possibility of a shower during the day, wind NW 16mph. Light rain showers are forecast the night before. |

| Comments: | Sending entries by Recorded Delivery in the week before the event is no guarantee that it will get to us any quicker, in fact it actually takes longer! If no one is in to sign for it it goes back to Halifax sorting office and we cannot collect it for 24 hours. It takes 2 days to arrange redelivery to a local Post Office and of course a fee is payable. With up to 25 entries a night to book in in the last couple of weeks before the event and a telephone that never seems to stop ringing with enquiries our time is limited. |
| Name: | Kim Hamer-Hurst |
| Comments: | Hi have sent my application and fee for this up and coming Marathon, i sent it special delivery but it still hasnt been collected from the post office. Just want to confirm that ive been entered into the event. Really looking forward to it and hope its not too wet. |

| Comments: | Looks like we will be attempting the ride on the 11th for the first time. Did the Holme Valley one and survived so whats this one like? More off road than on? Would be good to know before we travel there. |

| Comments: | Thank you to all entrants, I hope you enjoyed the day. Thank you to all our vollunteers, who made it run so smooth. Final result was great fun for many and much needed resources for the many youngsters in our organisation, giving them direction and respect in our community for all our well being. |

| Comments: | Yes thank you again to everyone who organised it sometimes you are just to intent or tired to say thanks on your way round ! Nice chocolate again, hopefully if I can eat less between now and next year I might go a bit faster !!! |
| Name: | Mike L |
| Comments: | First time in this and will def. be back next year. Found the mud a bit tiresome, especially after so many other riders must have been through before me to churn it up!! Thanks to all the marshalls, a well organised event, thanks to the volunteers. I'll beat my time next year - guaranteed! |
| Name: | Kev Keogh |
| Comments: | Awesome experience. First time I've done anything like this regarding an event, it was definitely worth cuts, bruises, cramps, acrobatic crashes and mud. Thanks to the organisers who were polite, helpful and professional. The competitors who were hearty. Finally to the giant on the hill 15 minutes into the race who graciously let me past even though I was having tyre trouble... you know who you are ;). |
| Name: | Mark Pryke |
| Comments: | This ride left me literally speachless for different reasons!fantastic, will train next year and give the course the respect it deserves. Need some of those tyres tha one of the ridrs had - the ones that float!! Thank You to the organisers, the participants and heres to aching limbs, backs and muscles! See you all next year! |
| Name: | ben pygott age 13 |
| Comments: | this was my first ever mountain bike marathon and i enjoyed every mile of it!! The food stations were great and the people were very kind. i would like to thank the kind man who helped with my chain problem.I thaught i would end up getting lost but it was so easy to find my to around. I will definately be doing it next year. Thanks again. |
| Name: | Paul Elsey |
| Comments: | This was my first visit to this event, the location is simply stunning, the hills are a constant challenge, the down hills are testing. The helpers and marshalls are spot on. This is a difficult ride and I can feel every muscle today. But, it was Fantastic. I cant wait to have another go. A BIG thank you to all who were involved in delivering this event. |
| Name: | Paul Mallinson |
| Comments: | First year of entry for me. With the exception of the fatigue, sweat, scratches, cramp and bike trouble, I enjoyed every minute. Thought the event was very well organised and all people involved in the organisation deserve a huge pat on the back. There were a few more hills than i anticipated, but guess in that part of the world i should have expected nothing less!!! |
| Name: | Don Parfitt |
| Comments: | First I would like to thank and congratulate everyone concerned with staging yesterday's CMBM event. The route was extremeley well marked, lots of energy supplied at the stations(can I bring a doggy bag next year)? and the marshalls were cheery, helpful and encouraging. A special thanks to the gentleman who transported my broken saddlebag back to the finish. Well done everyone. On a second point, I would also like to apologise on behalf of fellow riders to the lady who had an 'encounter' with a cyclist whilst trying to get to her home. I must say that this is not the behaviour of the majority of bike riders who are always courteous, but as with all society there are exceptions. In a small defence of the cyclist, I can imagine how he was feeling on that hill at the time and possibly he found the only way up was a crafty 'zig-zag'. An overtaking car on this narrow road does not help. However it does not warrant abusive behaviour. The best thing to have done would have been to dismount, allow the lady past and thank her(silently to yourself)for saving you from riding the rest of that hill. |
| Name: | Tony Glynn |
| Comments: | Great ride yesterday - the weather was perfect even if the moors were a little on the muddy side. Organisation was good, feed and drinks stations well stocked. Thanks for all the hard work that the organisers put in. |
| Name: | Jim Sutherland |
| Comments: | I am an ordinary rider not an organiser but I would like to apologise to Sarah for this behaviour one part of another rider. I know some people are working harder than I was and being more competitive but being abusive to other road users is in no way excusable. This was a participation event not a race and everyone should bear this in mind. Notwithstanding the above this was the first time in wife and I took part in this event and it was outstanding. A very relaxed atmosphere, they were marked route with exceptionally pleasant friendly marshals. In the immortal words " we will be back" |
| Name: | simon fisher |
| Comments: | great event well enjoyed especially the last climb to the finish |
| Name: | Sarah Murray |
| Comments: | Whilst driving up Styles Lane from Luddendenfoot to Sowerby (where I live), a member of CMBM refused to let me pass him where the road was wide and instead, rode directly infront of my car. When I tried to over take he called me a silly b***** and continued to shout abuse at me on the road. Whilst I am in favour of community events and races, I do not expect to be shouted at in the manner that I was today. If there had been any signs of the race at the bottom of the road I would have taken another route home. However, I was not aware of the race until I was too far up the hill to turn back. For those of you who don't know the road, it's narrow enough to drive on without people obstructing the way. I ended up stopping half way up the hill and waited until there were less cyclists. Apart from the fact that the cyclist was in the wrong, and HIGHLY abusive, the road should have either been closed, or the race better publicised. At the end of the day, motor vehicles will always do more damage in the awful event of the collision. |
| Name: | Rob Smith |
| Comments: | Great event; very well organised; excellent marshalling; nice people running it; plenty of feed stations and a free t-shirt at the end; what more could you want? Keep up the good work. |
| Name: | David Wakeford |
| Comments: | I would like to express my thanks to the three gentlemen (one was Ian Juba) who came to my rescue on Midgley Moor by mending my broken chain, without them I would not have been able to complete the challenge. The incident cost all of us 7 minutes in time. Thanks again for their selfless attitude in helping out. To the orgainisers, a great event, keep it going. |
| Name: | Carolyn Brindle |
| Comments: | Brill, really enjoyed it, especially the amount of chocolate on the feed stations. Will be back next year ! |
