| Comments: | Manon! Don't you think I've tried that! While I would love to pick up holiday hours at Princess Tam Tam (my favorite lingerie shop), despite my begging, the manager kindly explained that she can't justify giving a job that doesn't require market expertise to a foreigner (France has 9% unemployement and the majority of the problem rests in the working class sector). Especially to an overqualified, hyper-educated foreigner who will be bored and frustrated in two weeks time. France also has labor laws that require a 3-month minimum work contract. If you get hired, you're locked in for 3 months. Hypothetically, even if I got my dream job, I am obligated by law to finish the duration of my minimum contract, minium wage job (ergo, losing eligibility for my dream job). It's a different mentality here. People don't just change careers like they do in the US. You can't jump around jobs. You decide when you're 17 what you will study and that decision shapes the rest of your life. On the other side of the coin, the laws are very supportive of the worker, so when you are gainfully employed, you're well protected from redundancies, mergers, restructuring, downsizing...
Btw, "manon" is one of my all-time favorite ballets. And I die each day without the simple pleasure of working with classical music in the background...hence the importance of the ghetto blaster. "and remember, only cowardly slime leave no email address." |

| Comments: | I did a search for Elizabeth Goudge and got your website. What can I say first? The first thing I found out was that Elizabeth died in 1984. I had been trying to find that information for years! She probably is my favorite author and I just pulled one of her books from my shelves to re-read this Christmas. It's called "The Dean's Watch". It's a favorite that I read every December. My favorite quote from the book are her thoughts when the Dean is visiting Miss Montague at the end of Chapter 7. "Love. The only indestuctible thing. The only wealth and the only reality. The only survival. At the end of it all there was nothing else." Powerful words.
I happened to find a hardcover copy of the book at an antique store here in Michigan. You can believe that I snatched it up very quickly. My paperback had become rather worn. I'm thrilled that a young person such as yourself is discovering the books of Elizabeth Goudge. They are precious jewels. Thank you so VERY much for the article by Priscilla Valk on meeting Elizabeth Goudge. Thanks so much for your website where lovers of Elizabeth Goudge can go. |

| Comments: | I realized I've been reading your journal for a very long time and you've been reading mine for...also a very long time, and yet I never bothered to sign your guestbook. Well, here I am. I just wanted to know that I think you're a great person. I've been reading this thing for a while and I never realized how much of an impact it's had on me over the past year. I only wish I knew you better.
I've gotten mail like that from friends before, quite a bit of it actually, but I can't pretend to know your situation or if it was anything like mine a few years ago. From what happened to me though, I know it sucks, and for what it's worth, I'm really sorry. Please know that I don't think it's true. I never know the right thing to say when I'm trying to say something like this--I don't want to be offensive and say the wrong thing, or anything--but I hope you'll realize what I'm saying and that I think the people who know you are lucky to do so. *hugs* |

Not that anything you've done here dosen't qualify as family entertainment, what's worng with familys seeing the way people live their lives? Well any how, as my Grandmother always said, don't let the bastards get you down. You're right, you don't need to make apoligies for anything, and don't ever think you do. As far as I can tell you're a great person, with better projects online than most people can claim. So just forget about it, poeple like that aren't worth anyone's time or consideration.

| Comments: | Hey. How you doing? I'm was1boy, the fellow who randomly IM's you for advice on HTML. I've been reading your diary for some time now. I like the way you write. And your little "writing challanges" have kick-started me on many stories I don't think I would've come up with on my own. So for that I thank you. Your most recent entries have struck a serious nerve with me. I'm also twenty-one, and I've found it's not the greatest age to be. Particularly when all your walls start closing in, and you feel utterly alone, even though there are many people prepared to help you.
Back in high school I never felt depression. I was happy, and solitary, and completely unaware of the troubles which awaited me. I often think, Why did my sadness wait so long? Why did it decide to strike me when I was just starting off my life away from home? I haven't found any answer. It's not just hard being a teenager. That's not the age you figure you out who you are. Confusion strikes immediately after you walk out the door you called home your entire life. I don't know what I'm talking about, actually. My mother was never like that. Her problem is me; that I don't tell her enough. Sometimes there are people in your life you can't get comfortable with. It happens in immediate families (such as me and my brother). In no way does it mean they don't care for you. I love my little brother with every figment of my soul, but still I can't let myself get close. I wish I could; I wish so desperately I could. But something is blocking me. If I ever figure out the solution, I'll let you know immediately. All I can say is that you're a very talented person. You know you have a gift with words. Don't ever forget that. People you don't even know are being touched by what you write. I hope things get better for you. It's never easy getting what you want from life; but it's so easy (so horribly easy) to give up. Nobody who is still remembered ever gave up. Well, that's all I got. I still haven't a fucking clue how to work HTML, so you can expect random questions from me. Hope that's cool. Dig? |

| Comments: | Yes! Westmark was awesome! I suspect I may have enjoyed it even more had I read it a couple years ago, but it's a rare children's book that I can read (for the first time) when I'm 16 and still be enthralled. I tend to dismiss things as trite, cliche, or too shallow very quickly, but Westmark was beautifully written. I have the next two on hold at the library -- hopefully they'll be there by this weekend! *joins in the happy dance* |

| Comments: | Hi. I just read your latest entry and I wanted to say . . . not that I know how you feel or I feel sorry or anything, 'cause those wouldn't be right . . . I don't empathize. I guess, I sympathize with how you feel? I feel alone sometimes; my parents don't see who I am, just how I act, and those are two completely different people, and I guess it's like that for everyone sometimes, right? I hope everything gets better for you because you are a wonderful person and deserve a life to match. Anybody who disagrees is a complete idiot and should be smacked repeatedly with a giant spatula. Kate should be, too. Because, regardless of having a "real life" or not, you are a real person and that's more important. Besides, what is a "real life"? Isn't being ALIVE a "real life"? So, when we're born, we don't get a real life? Everyone has a real life, whether or not it's "normal" and who decides what's normal? Besides, you're special and great just as who you are, even with all your problems (and I hope that they disappear :). Maybe especially with the problems, because if we had perfect lives, we'd all be perfect, and wouldn't that suck?
Luv ya! Stefanie |

| Comments: | Not to undermine the severity of what you are feeling, ("I know that it's real and it makes you so sad") but I must stress that you aren't so alone. What you feel doesn't make you abnormal or dysfunctional. The fact that you understand how you are feeling and want help means you've got a lot more strength than you give yourself credit for. The pain and angst are a part of living, albeit a shitty part. But to feel anything so strongly is incredibly important. I hope you have a better day tomorrow. |

Other than that, you have a life, I'm a witness to that. And it is good. And also, happiness is so very relative and when you are happy, you are happy, and don't let anything change that. And also people should live and let live. And also you rock. And a partridge in a pear tree. |

| Comments: | I'd certainly tell you if I thought I read something of yours that was implausible... but really, I don't think that characters or their behavior are implausible unless they do something that's completely out-of-character for them (without sufficient motivation/duress/emotional stress to do so) or they're simply flat, two-dimensional, poorly written characters. None of your figments that I've encountered so far are the latter. I'm far more likely to tell you that you're wrong about a Beatles album release date or something. -_^ |

| Comments: | Hey Abby. :) I know we've had are little argument, & I know that I was a bit hard on you when you wrote about me in your diary. But, actually, your writings rock, & I've been coming back ever since! I would really like to apologize to you if that story offened you. I know that people don't believe the same ways that I do, but I would really like to at least share my beliefs with others. :) I think what that Kate girl said was wrong. Shes judging you. :( I think you are a very interesting person & I'm glad that you can speak your opinions on things! I wish I could like you do & not be afraid of what others think. You really pissed me off when you wrote about me, but in another since, you made me want to come back & read your diary again to see what other opinions you have on things :) I hope we can put what happened in the past behind us & I hope that theres no hard feelings. Feel free to email me anytime :) K!
Ohh.. Winged Wolf, she has me mistaken for the Kate girl & left a rude guestbook entry at my site???? :O I'm afraid your mistaken Winged Wolf. ;) |

| Comments: | Dear Manon,
I realize that this is your guestbook, and I promise to address some of this entry to you. =) After I address a bit of it to 'Kate', assuming that she is coming back to read the fallout of her own post. Hopefully the outpouring of positive responses to /you/ have outweighed her childish, hypocritical remarks. Kate, dear child, precisely where do you see the logic in telling Manon to 'get a life' when you yourself admit that you have none? Ah, but that is the fault of the homeschooling and the church, non? You had to move because of the church, and have no friends. Perhaps, instead of telling Manon to get a life, you should be out procuring one for yourself. Homeschooling doesn't mean you can't meet people. Why do you not seek companionship at your church? Or search out youth groups in your area? 'A life' is a very subjective thing. Why do "having a job" and "having a beer" (for example) constitute more of 'a life' than indulging in the creative arts, as Manon does? This woman writes beautiful things. She creates beautiful artwork. She expresses herself through roleplay. She has a significant other, who is as creative as she. I'd say she's got a life, but regardless of what /I/ think, her 'life' is hers alone and should contain what she wants it to contain, not what /you/ think it should entail. I am 30ish, with a husband, a wife, and a beautiful daughter; I have a personal faith that I find exceedingly fulfilling; and I have a social life that is carried out largely over the Internet. I work (away from the home) only because I have to. I write, I create web art, and I roleplay. Do I also need to go 'get a life', by your standards? Manon spoke against something on your site. I've read the passage she disliked, and I have to agree, it seems a very "only Christian" passage. I could go point out all of the things I think are flaws in the little story, but that's not the point. Belief in god, or God, or gods, is a very personal thing. You have every right to post what you want on your website. Manon has every right to comment on it. Manon, you are a very talented writer, a very talented artist in every medium which you attempt. Should you choose to get 'a life', look for your online friends, acquaintances, and passing nods. We'll all go have a beer with you. But I'll tell you, it's highly over-rated. =) -Wolf |

Manon, I don't know you in "real life", and I don't talk to you much online either, but I still think you're a really neat person. I love your writing, and your many websites. The online community would definatly not be the same if you decided to "get a real life" as Kate so nastily sugested. What Kate said was utterly uncalled for in every way, shape, and form, and in any context. If all she has time to do is insult people, *she's* the one that needs a life. And remember, boring, normal people have lives. It's the artists and the geniuses who don't. |

I would yell and scream and bitch at this Kate person, just because he/she/it sounds like a jerk (what is this, beer as a creative aid?), but I think it's already been done by those more eloquent than I. I don't really know you, but I know that you're a wonderful and extremely talented person. I think that says a lot about you - that a near complete stranger can admire you and feel outraged that someone is being such a complete and utter - well, you know - about you. Good luck in all that you do. Talk to you later, perhaps. |

| Comments: | I guess posting your life (or parts of it) on the web shows a bit of a desire for a response. I hope that the fact that the good comments, praising your writing and design talents, by far outweigh the bad gives you much solace. I read your site regularly and can tell by your words (as well as by your defensiveness to unwarrented criticism actually) that you have plans and dreams etc. But I guess what I want to convey that the "real life", knocked by many in your guestbook responses, does not "suck" in the least. And I would never be one to knock the value of a good beer with good friends on a patio in summer time, there is something revolutionary in the conversation and exchange of ideas that can ensue. The world is an amazing place.
If "the Net needs such beauty and you are more than worthy for the task", the rest of the world could only benefit from such beautifying too. By the numerous positive responses you garner daily, you obviously have the tools and talents to make a difference everywhere you go. Don't give up on the "off-line world" ever because if you look hard enough, I think you'll find it's waiting for you. |

yes, yes, bandwagon, but A) Abbychere is Good and Cool, and b) 'today i had a beer' 'today i got a job'? As someone who has had /entirely/ too much to do with "real life", It is writing like the Abby's that puts a little bit of joy, creativity, and willingness to deal with that crap back into existance. Serious things are overrated. Somepeople should stop worrying about their 'real lives' and Get an Imagination. |

Things you know: This site, as well as all other things you design, is lovely. Absolutely lovely. The Net needs such beauty and you are more than worthy for the task. Things you may not know: I admire your creative spirit. Your writing is wonderful, and I believe it will only become better and better. Though I have not met you face to face, I can tell you that you have inspired me. You introduced me to RP'ing, and how much fun it is to torture figaments. You are the catalyst that inspired me to beging writing short stories and fan fiction again. I thank you, though Andre and Alain don't. | Comments: | In Defence of Kate:
I think that Kate does have a valid argument. This being that the more experiences a writer has to draw on, generally, the better their writing will be. Perhaps the manner in which this was suggested to you was unfair however, from reading your diary it does seem obvious that you avoid those experiences that would seem to fall into the category of "real life." In addition, your outburst at her comment seems to make me think what she said holds some truth. And, what could possibly make you think that she is any of the names you called her? Her comment was based on what she knows of you from your diary and based on that what she wrote does seem appropriate to the content of the diary. Your painfully immature attack on her person, however, is based on what, five lines of text? Perhaps if you were pushed into doing things rather than waiting to do them in your own time (job, school, etc.) you would end up having some amazing experiences. |

You dont know me. I found your site through my friend Ann's links. I really enjoy your writings and you diary. I dont know, maybe I dont have a "real" life but I do. But i do want to say thsi to Kate: Kate, maybe you should actually give up flaimg and insulting people until you have something to back up your insults. Until you've made some friends, left your house, brushed your hair. Think of the material that could come from that "Today I got a job. Today I had a beer". Think of the magic, and the thing is that none of it would be fiction. You could actually beleive your pathetic life is superior to those of whom you insult. This of the prospect Kate! Look into it! Sound familar? Keep writing Manon. The rest of us need some reminder that even though "real" worlds suck the other real ones arent that bad. |

Please, whatever you do, don't let people like Kate inflame you too much. Anyone who can't stand to see somebody living and writing out their life in some way that doesn't fit into their narrow perspective of The Way Things Ought To Be honestly shouldn't even own a modem. Regardless of whether they own a benevolent dictatorship or not. I know this isn't a terribly original batch of thoughts, but they're still absolutely true, and you know they are. =) Take pride in your work, and in what you create-- I daresay I've never seen a single wasted word out of you yet. | Comments: | ...I wasn't going to sign this (regarding The Email-less One below), since I didn't really know what to say, but I saw the other things people wrote and figured I ought to jump on the bandwagon. Baaa. Anyvague. One of the side effects of the whole webjournal/personal site internet subculture (that sounds pretentious, but it's 3:30 and I can't think of a better word at the moment) that I've been noticing these past several months and find particularly ridiculous, and not in an amusing way, is that there are some people who assume that just because they've learned a few random details about someone else, or read their writing, that they have some sort of claim on that person. Because they've stumbled across what the person has published online for anyone to see, they form the delusion that they know them, and because they've never so much as even emailed them, some of them feel detached enough to pass judgement at will. Bullshit. It doesn't work that way; a story or diary entry onscreen is not half a conversation - it's a story or diary entry. It's two dimensional, and unfortunately, when it comes to journals in particular, more often than not the writing is filtered through whatever perceptions or predjudices the reader may have about the writer. ....I tend to find it astoundingly pathetic when I see someone deluded in this fashion actually become angry enough at one of these strangers to lash out at them publicly. In this specific case that I'm writing in response to, I am also struck by the irony of someone so incredibly disconnected from reality as to lose perspective in the described fashion feeling qualified to recommend her version of the "real world" to others. Truthfully, it doesn't seem like something anyone firmly entrenched in the here-and-now would bother with. This is somewhat longer and much, much wordier than I meant it to be (I temporarily slip into essay mode when I try to write something serious at this hour, and words pile up until I can't see the screen), and apologies if you didn't want Yet Another guestbook entry making reference to this idiocy. I suppose you can always delete this if it clutters the place up. But this mentality irks the hell out of me, and this was as good an example of it as anything I've seen. Hmm. More in keeping with the purpose of a guestbook - the site's gorgeous. But you knew that already. |

| Comments: | Abby, I was going to email you, and then I thought that it might be better to leave it in the guestbook where others might see. I'm sorry if this seems too long for guestbooks, but it's important to me to say it to you.
I don't know you. I've never met you. I only know you through your words -- your diary, your fictions, your occasional emails -- and through your designs. Both are soothing to me, both are friendly. Both are, most importantly, -real-. This is where you have the edge over people like Kate. They don't understand what -real- is, and they don't understand what truths are, because they're too busy following other peoples' advice about what to do with their lives, and following society's mandates about what to do with their lives. You've a beautiful mind. A solid worldview. You're interesting, funny, and talented. People love and like you (and sometimes it's hard to get those two emotions to meet). You'll go far, but you need to go there at your own pace. And there are a lot of us out here who support that pace, that need. Don't let a few shallow people ruin your view of the world. *hugs* - Jess |

| Comments: | Dear Manon,
You are one of the most graphically talented people I know. You can make a website look like a place one wants to stay instead of just a way of obtaining information. For me, at least, and I am positive that I am not alone in this, the desire to look at your extensive, well-built sites comes as much from the content as from the design. Your words catch the heart as the pictures catch the eye. You should take care of yourself, perhaps, better than you do, and build up some sort of emotional defense so that people whom you do not care about have no power over you. That would probably help you a great deal in the pursuit of your dreams. You are a wonderful, talented, caring person. Write it on your hand. Affirm it every day when you wake up. Remember it. -- Laura |

It's not the teenygoths and the angst tripping freshmen who are tired of being judged, the clincly depressed sophmores are pretty much done with it too. I read that girl's diary and it dosen't say anything that would suggest she's a teenager. The fact that she has a roomate would only suggest that she's not. Just because she was blunt and insensitive dosen't mean she's under 21. You're being just as bad as her when you make assumptions like that. I understand you're upset and maybe I'm just saying this because I get more crap than usual for being a teen (pink hair= genral hatred from cops and store owners) but I think you made unfair comments. Oh by the way I love your diary. And I did only get two hours of sleep last night, and I am on more uppers than most speed addicts, so don't put too much wieght on anything I said but still, I had to say something. |

| Comments: | Well, to be honest... I like them both about equally. I
don't think either one was unwieldy, and I don't think that the new one is overly pink. I may prefer the blue one, but that's probably because I prefer blue. So there's my (utterly useless) two cents. -_^ Thanks, also, for the g- book hugs. It's tough, but the writing helps, and the resonses I've been getting help, too. Maybe if we make it to Boston you can make good on the hug raincheck, eh? |

about me, but I will be all humble and nonchalant about what was writen about me." But no... I will be.. um.. chalant. Wow. makes me feel all tingly on my insides when people think I am a good writer. Let me just say that I probably would read your diary if it were not for seeing someone referred to my site by yours as I obsessively check my site meter... but I digress. I am only ankle deep in this site, but i like what I see... I see your ginchiest and raise you a peachy keen. um... that's it. |

You should be so proud of yourself. Thanks again for stopping by, and I hope you'll check out the new site (I don't believe in such a thing as "shameless" self-promotion :D). ~Amy |
