What if you all start building your way. and start securing your own towns and offering people to come live in paradise under tuhoe security. Maybe you can build all the basic needs, like shops and Maori can come with their goods to sell from your towns and yous even can talk only Maori where people can come and practice their Maori. The government says they wont to revive the Maori language. So why would they refuse a tribe who will pull together and help this revival of the Maori language and culture or are they lying about that too. The days of invading is over..yes they want to practice their rule over you tuhoe. but its a fake. Its always been a fake. "What if they come back with their guns" If they do that who are they going to shoot. And if they shoot someone what will happen then? Ob cause..Tuhoe wont allow that. I found it very moving for myself personally because there are extracts of all our koroua, kuia who have passed on, I would recommend our whanau to go and see it at a theatre near to you. At the end of the screening Vincent told a story, about a horse, and a car, need I say Tikohawara. Like I said it is a must see. Even to get the DVD. Kia ora ra. |

| My whaakaro: | I hope you will not think I am some kind of kook out here but, by the time I finish I hope you will have an understanding of why I am so frustrated. It goes back many years of stories my father has told me about the Indigenous People of your home. My father's name was Joseph Robert Toahty. He was origionally with the Navy but said he was transferred to the 1st Marine Division after fighting on Guadalcanal. It was some time in the early 40's. My father was a full-blooded 1/2 Pawnee and 1/2 Kiowa Indian from Oklahoma. My father was named after the War Chief White Eagle. After the war, his people gave him the name of his grandfather. My father was the only person authorized by his people to have that name. He was allowed to give his name to a family member in an appropriate ceremony but never did. Consequently, he took that name to his grave in July of 1996. My father came from Warrior Societies from the Pawnee and Kiowa. After serving in the Republic of South Vietnam, I too was able to belong to three different Warrior Societies in Oklahoma. After the war, I became embittered at the way my country had treated our warriors and began to drink and do a lot of drugs due to my Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. After much chaos and stress I finally had my last drink in 1983. I have been recovering since that time. I have worked in the field of Substance Abuse for almost all of those years. I am now working in Kotzebue, Alaska as the director of a large substance abuse program. We deal with the indigenous people of the arctic and their substance abuse problems. I am also in charge of 11 smaller villages in the Northwest Arctic Borrough and send my staff out in bush planes to deal with many situations. I have also become an elder in the Arapaho Sundance Society and have become a ceremonial man. We try to adhere to the teachings of a strict spiritual philosophy concerning our traditional ways. Anyway, my father had told my sister Mary Lou (54) and brother Robert (50) and myself, Michael (52) that we had siblings that were of Maori decent. The stories had always facinated my whole family. We still do not know if they are true or not but want to think that because he knew so much of the Maori People that there had to be some truth to it. I know it's not impossible because I found the graves of two of my sisters who were of the Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma. I visited their graves about four years ago when he died. They were babies when they died but would have been my older sisters. As many Native American veterans can atest to is they were known as "Chief" especially if they were in combat units. My father was also known as "Chief" by his fellow soldiers. If you or any Maori organization can help me track any potential siblings down, I would greatly appreciate it. Our family has florished in Te Tairawhiti but we have never forgotten where we are from and who we are. Each generation here has their own Taimaikoha so that we will never forget. |
