Hallo there.
At last I have found an alternative to the mighty John Peel. I was a regular listener to the Peel show for many, many years and miss him terribly. But then I chanced upon a reference in the Peel newsgroup about your show.
It looks just what I'm after. May I make a suggestion for a great record that came out this year that I cannot find in yor track listing? It's on Alive records (original home of the Black Keys) and they are called Left Lane Cruiser. This has been the album of the year so far for me. The album is called Bring Yo Ass to The Table. Have you heard this one? I'm sure you have.
I look forward to tuning in and hopefully going away and ordering lots of new music.
Keep it Peel.
Rodger (from near Oxford in England).

You have been on a bit of a roll lately. But then I never really have any
complaints. Bought Evangeline & Autoimmune this week after hearing them on
the show. Also bought Initiate EP by Headhunter which I'm sure I've also
heard on the show. you are my inspiration!

Dear Marcelle
I'm listening, as I do every week (no, really!), to the stream of ANM, and just wanted to say "nice one" to you for playing the Wolfhounds. For me they are one of the greatest ever bands and it is a rare pleasure to hear them on any kind of radio show - I think the last time I heard them played on air was courtesy Mr Peel in the late 80s! I'm not sure how much of their stuff you might be into, or if you're aware that they are another of those 'old' bands who have reformed recently (though only for one show last year and one show this year - the gig last year was particularly stormin'). I would encourage you to feel free to play more Wolfhounds stuff on future programmes - my vote is for "No Soap In A Dirty War" from the "Happy Shopper" 12" B-side ... you could dedicate it to Wolfhounds fans everywhere!
Anyway, keep up the great work; I guess it's as important to say that I have come across lots of great NEW music via your programme.
All the best
LUKE

part of review of Marcelle/Nightingales/Victoria Lucas gig in Ipswich, 14th october:
Marcelle van Hoof draws it all up again - the difference it makes to have a dj hitting on the moment - records to astonish, full of bizarre and unexpected twists: one minute thinking how beautiful life sounds, then how scary, then how strangely hilarious.
The intro for the Nightingales couldn't be better - some quiet, African chant as they made the last
adjustments onstage, guitars and amps, when 'Wrong Place' kicks in, the original version off Kurious Oranj - so loud and smart! the atmosphere suddenly electric and danceative - a perfect platform for that deranged drummer with
taped-up hands to crack open the set

Hey Marcelle,
I'm only a baby in terms of listening to your show as I started a couple of months ago. I really love the stuff you play, not ALL of it but plenty, and the tracks I'm not quite so keen on are always interesting so it's good to listen to them too. I listen to the One Music programmes on Radio 1 every week as well as your show and I like them too but somehow they just don't quite have the edge that you have and John Peel had. I think the best show I have heard since I started listening is the one on the 21st March with The Black Paths. I liked SO MANY of the tracks from that show. The 28th's was good too, I really liked the track you played by Dyse. Haven't had chance to listen again to this weeks show but I will....
Ok, that's enough.
Cheers.

laat je me iets weten?

Dearest Marcelle
A big thank you for your Another Nice Mess 2005 CD. I was a bit worried when I saw it contained a vinyl single as I haven't got my turntable set up yet. I was further worried when I saw that it was Tight Fit's - The Lion Sleeps Tonight and started to wonder if it was regarded as "so bad" that it was now good. All is well when I noticed the sticker "With free terrible single".
Haven't played the CD yet as I'm still listening to the last 2 hours of last week's show. Especially your set you recorded in Berlin. Truly awesome.
It's now an ambition of mine and my nephew Matt to come over to Amsterdam and see one of your DJ sets.
Love
Phil

Hi Marcelle
I'm just listening to yesterday's show (currently in the DJ Scotch Egg mix,
having come in about an huor ago) - there's a really great mix of stuff on
the show, including a lot of new and exciting stuff. I'm going to have to
review the track listing and possibly track some stuff down. I really liked
that Yeah No Yeah track and the Rag and Bone records stuff. And you're dead
right abouty that Shitmat track - simultaneously hilarious.and seriously
excellent. Your show is indispensible listening these days
Old stuff vs New stuff? Hmmm, well mostly new stuff please, but sometimes
the old stuff helps to education the younger audience and give context. I
don't know if I'd go so far as to broadcast (for example!) a complete Yeah
Yeah No gig - but the occasional track is great. Three hours a week is not
enough eh!
I must get hold of your mix CD sometime. Are you planning
to do one for this year too?
Cheers
Mick

So thank you for providing such a wonderful programme.

Hey
That last show....amazing...how do you find it all? I thought the last hour was just so good. I often find it difficult to remember tunes I particularly liked, because I liked all of it. (First time I've liked McLusky, as well)
"A Minutes Noise For John" is my favourite tribute song yet. That and the bit of John introducing Robert Wyatt......I still feel very sad.
Gang of Four. I agree with you. Why re-do it? It was perfect first time round. I would like to hear the remixes. That's a request for next show!
I had never heard of Malorix, but I enjoyed that session immensly.
Thank you.

Hallo Marcelle,
Glad to see that you have Mitch Benn's "Minute's Noise For John" on air, the ONLY honest and motive-free music to come from that particular shipwreck.
Please say hallo to Marcel at Transformed (Amsterdam) Dreams and my grooviest neighbours, Hallo Sarah & Cuban Boys for me next time you broadcast.
If you have any Nectarine #9 stuff, play it, very loudly, please.

Hi Marcelle,
Ive just discovered your show thanks to a mention of it on the Rob deBank programme last week advertising your Peel tribute night which i enjoyed so much.
I will make your show a regular feature of my radio listening, probably using your "listen again" feature. For nearly 30 years I enjoyed taping the Peel shows & listening to them during the daytime on my car stereo. More recently I have despaired somewhat at the attempts to find a show that will showcase raw talent and hidden gems that would not see airplay on any mainstream shows. Thank you for showing there are people like you out there continuing the mission.

Hi Marcelle
I will listen to the rest of the show now online. I find it hard to believe that John is no longer here. On Saturday morning, I woke up and turned the radio on to a "Home Truths" special, commemorating John's life and work. It was almost as if I was listening to him there and then, as I had done so many times over the years. It didn't really sink in straight away that it was past shows that were being broadcast - his voice has always been there and been a great comfort... It seems so wrong that it's not there any more. I have tapes of sessions with his voice on. I remember trying to press "pause" at the end of tracks before he started speaking so I would have only the music. Now I am glad that I never usually remembered and I have them with his voice on. I like them so much better with his voice on. I guess at the time I never thought that he wouldn't be around any more - if anyone was going to be immortal, it was going to be John!
As on the day he died, and so many days since, my thoughts are with Sheila and his family today. I never met John and yet I miss him so much. I can hardly imagine how they must feel today.
Thanks again for carrying on his legacy. I hope that this is how he will live on - by everyone involved in music, from artists to DJs to listeners, striving to bring new and exciting music into people's lives.
Take good care,
Scott x

Great to hear us both on Rob Da Bank!
Now check out the latest 'Have Your Say' entry on this page : http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/johnpeel/johnpeelday/2005/keepitpeeldoc/. It reads:
If like John, you want to hear something you've never heard before, I heartily recommend this internet radio show: 'ANOTHER NICE MESS,' which you'll see listed below under 'Relevant Links'. Very much inspired by Peel, this show's DJ, Marcelle van Hoof, has been seeking out new music from independent and unsigned artists, and featuring it on her show for nearly 20 years. She possesses a great ear for original sounds, along with a very large appetite for new music.
