Comments:A beautiful person with courage, determination, a great love of people and a talent for reflecting all this in writing - seasoned with just enough humour to add to the strength of his message. Loren Mosher can never know how much his courage helped our group in the UK to survive - personally and as a group - and to keep fighting for others and for pharmaceutical accountability. He is sadly missed, but his soul will always remain alive, shining brightly through the goodness of his life and through his website. PG.

Mental Health Clients for Wellness & Recovery group San Diego & the California Network of Mental Health Clients along with clients in other states in the U.S. and survivors worldwide would like to take this opportunity to express to you our sympathies on Loren’s sudden death. We will feel this and be saddened by this for many years to come.
I originally thought that Loren was just another psychiatrist. After listening to him ‘while he was awake’ at the managed care implementation planning meetings (these meetings used to bore him to sleep) numerous years ago, my initiation into CMH meetings, I noticed that Loren was very caring, knowledgeable, thoughtful, courageous and usually right. He repeatedly put a focus on what would have not even been mentioned by the other attendees of these meetings, -points that were client centered, intelligent and very important to healthy recovery minded living. I had found myself an ally who really understood what is mostly not describable by mental health clients when talking to professionals. In Loren we had a voice that could stand up to corporate managed care or the lack of it, large pharmaceutical companies, judges, lawyers and others. Loren had wonderful insight into what a person needs to recover from a setback.
‘Big Pharma’ may think they have won a rather large victory in the passing of Dr. Loren Mosher, but Loren’s work will live on in the many clients and advocates he befriended, supported, mentored, trained and stood by. I would like to take this time to say Thank You for Loren and what he stood for. Thank you for supporting his many causes.

Sincerely Yours,

The Mental Health Clients for Wellness & Recovery,
California Network of Mental Health Clients

I thought it was courageous of him to stand up for his belief's by resigning from the APA due to the now sadly prevalent method's of treating people only with drug's which lend false credence to the drug companie's

My sincere comdolences to Dr Mosher's family. He will be soerely missed

Comments:My son was a patient at Metropolitan State Hospital. A lady by the name of Linda Brown put me in touch with the Federal Government and this individual initiated the Department of Justice investigation. I am so sorry I never had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Loren Mosher, because I felt that my son would benefit from treatment at Soteria House. Since the investigation happened the FDA Advisory Committee has held a recent hearing on the SUICIDE WARNINGS on these drugs. Also more funding is going into Mental Health. Some of these politicians are funded by pharma. The government is drugging our children into compliance. They are traumatized by the removal from their families. The policies and rules are there, they just don't follow the rules.
I believe that the passing away of Dr. Loren Mosher will now call even more attention to his life's work and his love for people and his faith in mankind. He is courageous, so is Dr. Peter Breggin, Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, and the list goes on and on. David Oaks is another example of determination. And we must continue this fight, because there are many preventable tragedies ahead of us.

Comments:Dr. Loren Mosher really touched my heart. He will really be missed and I appreciated that he was so honest and refused to to cater to the cover-up of the Psychiatric Industry. I felt that he was a real asset for survivors because there are not very many honest psychiatrists that will tell the truth and care about saving the lives of human beings. He treated me with respect and I have never received it from any psychiatrist that was illegally forced off onto me. He told the truth when he stated it is all about politics. For him being honest about the psychiatric profession, I had a great deal of respect for him and I was very sadened about his passing on.

Comments: It is regrettable that Loren Mosher died. The contributions of his life were questioning some of the prevailing practices of his profession, despite some great pressure he likely endured to conform to such practices. He was willing to consider not administering neuroleptics to people diagnosed with schizophrenia. In fact, he used psychosocial techniques that were looked down on by conventional psychiatrists. This was likely more enabling to such patients than being drugged into stupors by the disabling effects of neuroleptics. I believe that neuroleptics are merely designed to facilitate the control of people in institutions.

Comments:Dr. Mosher was an inspiration. His simple clarity and the strength of his experience and his work spoke to the hearts of so many...I appreciated meeting him for the first time at a NARPA conference in 2001 or 2002 after having read widely of his Soteria work. As a relative newcomer to the area of advocating for simple, safe, self-help measures to help people caught in extreme states, I was so very touched by how carefully he listened to my views. I have rarely felt so HEARD in my life... I also appreciated reconnecting with him on his recent visit to Mt. Holyoke College and then to Northampton to discuss a local community effort to establish a 'Soteria-Northampton.' He was warm, insightful, cordial but direct, and infinitely wise...He is in my heart. I hope that I can learn to listen as Dr. Mosher listened to me. Cheryl Stevens, MD

Comments:Loren was a dear friend and colleague on the MindFreedom Support Coalition board of directors, whom I will always remember as a sweet, fair-minded man and a tireless fighter against psychiatric oppression. He always had the intelligent solution to difficult situations. He stood on the side of psychiatric survivors as a supporter to our cause.

I first found out about Loren's work when I wrote my master's thesis in community psychology in 1985-'86. I was writing the thesis about creating an alternative to the mental health system based on the theory and practice of Re-evaluation Counseling. I needed to find alternatives that existed to talk about in the thesis, and Soteria House was the only one I could find that was an actual alternative to the system. I was thrilled and inspired to read about such a wonderful, drug-free alternative, and sorry to read that it no longer existed. I hoped to meet Loren, which I later did.

When I did meet him, I could understand why Soteria House was so brilliantly planned and executed, because its founder was so clear about treating people well(something he always did, as far as I could tell) and about treating mental patients and ex-patients as fine human beings, worthy of respect and support. Loren was courageous in standing up against the corruption in his field, and yet never focused on petty arguments or disagreements. He saw the big picture of human rights and a world that can possibly appreciate people who are in the process of healing, a world where people can help people, and he went for it. He carried a lot of people forward in that direction. And his work will continue to do so.

Comments:Loren set a standard for integrity, generosity, decency, compassion, and courage that I will look to through misty eyes for the rest of my life. With no apparent regard for ego, personal glorification, or self-interest he made his manifold gifts available to all who had need of them. He heaped scorn and anger on those who, by their actions, deserved his contempt, and he was kind, understanding, and humorous in the company of friends, colleagues, and others he cared about. He was a good and special guy.

Comments:Loren Mosher and his wife Judy came to London at their own expense to support the first conference I had ever organised in 2001, for the charity I founded, APRIL.

I respected and admired the integrity and courage of a man who stood up for what was right and was honoured that he made the effort to come over to England.

Loren spoke in our 2001 conference sharing a platform with others equally concerned and eminent in the field of adverse drug reaction awareness. Including Dr David Healy, Professor Heather Ashton and Professor James Wright.

Loren's talk was full of evidence based material and very enlightening which added greatly to the success of the day.

Loren will be missed by so many of us and I will be sure to pay tribute to him at our second conference in November.

Sincere condolences to Judy and Loren's family.

Comments:As a result of learning about Loren's work, I became the director of a group home in Cambridge, and my life changed. I have used his writing extensively in formulating my own approach to the job, and to help in choosing and training staff. I am hoping to be involved in the formation of a Soteria-style house in Western Mass., and was excited that Loren might be involved. I hope now to be involved with a group of peers continuing Loren's good work.

I was fortunate to have some email contact with Loren, that helped me greatly in gaining confidence in what I was doing at my house. I regret that I will not be able to continue a personal connection, but I am grateful to have made a connection that I hope to continue honoring.

I wish Loren luck in his future endeavors. I expect he will have better collaborators to draw on than some he suffered through in the past.

Comments:Dear Loren Mosher,

Whenever I have read your work, I've always been struck by your unremitting committment to relieving the suffering of the mentally distressed. And as everyone has so expressively described that individual way you had, I hoped to find a way to add how I saw you, and it seemed to me that Ronnie put it well in his eigth Sonnet when he wrote,
"You illustrate in action man's right goal."
While I did not know you personally, I take to heart your compassionate, caring, and committed comportment when working with those seeking relief from disturbance, and I wanted to say thank you.

With kind regards,

I didn't knew you at all, but from what I heard from your companions, you try to understand human beings with love instead with pills. As Ronnie said: "The way you treat someone is the treatment." And just for that, I'm sure that Abba bless you, already.

So you can rest in peace now.
