Comments:Hi, . I'm searching for good old friends I've had 30 years ago. I'm German and lived with my parents in Lampertheim, north of Mannheim. In the flat above my parents we had neighbors from the US Army. Their names are Nina (Linda?) Caffarelli, Sherman May ("Scupper"), David Haley. They lived in Lampertheim around 1974/1975. Is everyone knowing anything about them? Can anybody help me to get in contact? I'm already in contact with another friend from these times: Duane Gaddy. I would love it to get re-contacted with the other guys. Waiting for any sign. Thanks in advance to everyone who can help me. Regards from Germany.

Comments:I was stationed at the 77th MP unit, out of Coleman Barracks, worked at the stockade from March of '69 - April of '70, I think. I actually went back last year. Coleman had really changed. I didn't try to visit the confinement facility, but I did get close enough to take a few pictures. Those were the days of great social experimentation! I always thought a movie could had been made. Now: who would care? When I arrived I found two groups of MPs: The old guard who weren't below dragging a prisoner up and down a flight of stairs by his heels, and the new guard who would preach "Peace, Love, Brother! You're a prisoner here for six months, lets just all try to get along. Need some smoke?" The "old guard" stepped aside to see if the new breed could affect any changes...and I think they did, until the Black Power Movement resulted in a different and angrier type of prisoner. We then started to see a series of 12 minute riots. (12 minutes was the amount of time it would take for those at Coleman to reach the stockade...and everything would suddenly cool back down.) I and about eleven others were transferred when the the new commander (Lt. Sklar) took over. Some, like me, went up to headquarters. This was not the wisest of moves, as Sklar discovered when his own transfer orders kept getting messed up (over and over and over again) when it was time for him to rotate out of there. (Hey, hey, hey! Not by me! I was just an amused, innocent by-stander of all that.) This was a very special period in my life. I initially looked up some of my old buds when I first got out (Buck, Pete, Frank, Ted, etc)...but, eventually let it all fade to the distant shores. Recently, I had tried to find Pete (failed), and found myself wondering: what would happen if I typed in 77th MP Detachment... We certainly have a time of it. Thanks for letting me share. Johnson Sept. '06
