Love your website. I am looking for information on a Bessie Murphy who was born about 1827 in Ireland. She married John Splain, born in Ireland about 1823. It is said that they met on the boat coming over to the USA and got married. Many children, but my line would be from their son John C Splain who married Hattie Shifflett, whose daughter Celia Mae Splain was born in 1894. Celia is my Grandmother, who died in 1938. Thanks for any info you may share.

Mark: I am finally putting our Murphy book together. Our "for sure" earliest Murphy was John, father of Philip, but I lean toward Peter from Ulster as being the father of John. Any comments on that? Is your Audie Murphy connected with the Bienville Parish, LA Murphys?

Patrick McGarity d:1721 married into the murphy's. He arrived in america in 1686 having been thrown out of scotland. No, he was not scottish, but from ireland. | |

Researching information on David Murphy born 03/14/1802 in
Virginia. Married Anna Duckwall Madden 02/22/1831. Do not no where they where married or where in Virginia David was born. Anna Duckwall was born 09/10/1809 to Joesph Duckwall and Lydia Dimitt in Berkley Springs, Morgan County Virginia. They bought property in Fairfield County Ohio in Hocking Township in 1831. Anna Duckwall had a son John Madden from her first marriage to Samuel Madden in Berkley Springs. David Murphy and Anna Duckwall had Sarah Matilda Murphy, Henry Clay Murphy, Lucy Ann Murphy, George White Murphy, David Hamilton Murphy, Benjamin Davenport Murphy, Margaret Ellen Murphy and James William Murphy in Fairfield County, Hocking Township Ohio. Thank you for sharing the information you have. I'm very new at this and appreciate seeing what more experienced genealogists are doing. Although my mothers maiden name was Murphy, my line separated from yours at Simon Sr. in the early 1700's. I am a descendant of his son Simon Jr. If I could bother you to ask for advice -- What is the best way for a rookie like me to get documentation? Especially for pre 1800's? I see huge variations on dates, places, etc. for individuals. Many times I think people are confusing generations or duplicating people. I really don't expect to just have things handed to me, but I'm not sure where to go to get them myself. Thank you. (I don't have a website or anything yet, but if you would like any information I have, though nothing compared to yours, it will be shared gladly.) | |
