| entry: | I was trying to look up some family history and stumbled onto the Jacksonville fire dept history. I knew my greatgrandfather, buried in Jacksonvilee, was a member of the fire dept. I am still trying to piece together the family history, but we ended up in PA and my grandfather was chief of the Vandergrift VolFD for many years. My father was a member of Parks Twp VFD as was I till I joined the service. It is nice to see that there is still a station 4 still in service. I miss the days. Some day when I get down to Fl, if you don't mind, I would like to stop in. Fire fighting still runs in the family, I have a nephew that is a member of the Wheeling WV fire dept. |

| entry: | I grew up playing on the fire engines and sliding down the poles when my dad was an engineer at #4. His name was "Squirrel" Harris. I miss seeing him drive the engine and how proud he was to wear that uniform. Most kids have superman and batman, I had the guys at #4, Claude howell, Fishburn, Lancaster and several others. You guys do a great job. Thanks for all you do |

| entry: | Is your fire station still open? I drive by all the time & no one is ever there. I never see the trucks go anywhere. Are you guys part of the budget cuts? Is there anyway you guys might post your run totals on the website? Are they thinking of putting a rescue at your station in order to keep it open? Do you guys go on alot of calls in the lavilla area? (there isnt much there anymore) How often do you guys have to out of your territory to find calls? Are they gonna stucco the building to modernize it? Do you guys still get in alot of trouble with all that time on your hands? Ok, hope you guys stay in buisness. Talk to you soon!

| entry: | Thanks to the guys at Station 4 for their help on Thurs., 7/12 at the bottom of the Acosta Bridge near Water Street. I had a flat tire on my road bike and went down, hitting my head on the curb. I ended up with 38 very small stitches in hopes of having minimal scarring! You guys were truly awesome. I don't know the name of the person that took my bike home for me, but a BIG thank you goes out to him....that was way above and beyond the call of duty! How many people can actually say their bike rode in a firetruck?! I love it! I'll be riding again tonight (7/19). I'll be riding much slower and trying very hard not to wreck for any reason! I was loading my bike in my car this morning and noticed blood spatters on my bike frame. How cool is that!? I'm thinking of putting a coat of clear coat over them so they will always be there! LOL
I'm hoping to stop by soon to say thanks in person. It was the "B" Shift guys...I have no idea about the Terry and Robbie that actually transported me.....but, if they have access to this as well....a big thank you to them for their part in getting me into the hospital to see a Dr. I would have hated waiting in the waiting room. That backboard was about the most uncomfortable thing I've ever been on though! : > ) Take care all! Thanks again! Kathy Cowart |
