Spartacus strolled out into the Coliseum. He eyed his
opponent, another Thracian, warily. Why, thought Spartacus,
must these oppressive Romans enjoy such bloody
entertainment? But Spartacus could not think for long;
he saw his opponent running quickly towards him, sword
bared.

The following entry by: Janez Novak;
Spartacus turned away and closed his eyes. He cried: " I'm not Spartacus, my real name is Janez Novak!
I live in Ljutomer and I want to go home! Mum! Mum!
MUM!"

John walked into the arena, looked around, and finally saw his opponent. A big, burly man, with dark skin and dark hair. The man looked up from polishing his sword with the guts of his enemy, and beckoned him on. John ran at him, mace raised high in the air.

The croud cheered. The fight had begun.

The following entry by: Science Class; jschmidt@monterey.k12.ca.us
John struck his opponent with his mace in the stomach. He
started crying and bent over. John tried his best karate
move and kicked him in the face.

The following entry by: Cori Dobbs; cdobbs@ucla.edu
But then John fell and was covered with mud. Nobody came to
his rescue. When he dug the mud out of his eyes, he saw a
shadow slowing creeping towards him.

The following entry by: Denise Silveira; regulus@nutecnet.com.br
The Shadow came nearer. Jonh realized it was his opponent, who still tried to fight. Suddenly, the Caesar decided to interfere on it.
_ Those fighters are the worst I've seen in life! Let the lions feed on them!
The people in the Coliseum shouted, and screamed for pleasure.

The following entry by: kaelin;
John realized his time had come. The Gods moust have need of him up there in the holy place. John held his head high while the gaurds released the lions. He looked around for the shadow and found him begging Ceaser to let him live . Ceaser didn't even glance down ward. Pig! thought John, he can't even be bothered about two inocent men.
John quickly decided to try (in vain, he knew ) to defend himself rather then just let the lions kill him.

The following entry by: Drizzt;
H drew his sword and leaped tto the side as the lion raged
past. I ran and as he turns plunges my blade into his
skull, the gore flies about me and my blood is mingled with
his, dying me red. I slit the neck of the lion and toss it
towards ceasar. "I am a free man! I will remain so!" The
crowds cheered me on as ceasar relented and opened the
exit.

The gates were opened, and John rushed out with a feeling of release. But before he could take more than two steps from the gate, he felt himself grabbed from behind. The Colosseum guards laughed in his face.
"You don't think we let any of you go, do you? Lock him up until the next time we need a lion killer!"
John had but a taste of freedom before he was locked again in the cells, the door slamming behind him like a death knell. He knew he would never have another chance at freedom again.

The following entry by: ray;
But, in his dreams he was free, sailing on his ship on the
open Mediteranean sea which belonged all to his Empire! He
no longer knew if this even was his empire, though. Why
would he want to live and die for this wretched,
blood-thirsty society? All he knew was that he missed his
wife, and in his dreams he saw her, half naked and perfect,
under the moonlight.

The following entry by: Mike Cadorette; 69@Aol.com
Why is it that every time John looks in the mirror he sees
himself? Does being yourself prevent you from the pleasure
of seeing yourself as another perfect being? Why is it that
being me isn't being I. Why do the starts twinkle. Kill
Whitey.

The following entry by: Kate; VKWF02D@Prodigy.com
John pondered this thought for a long time. He realized that
he was being foolish all of those years to think that this
was a life he was happy with (the thought of "kill whitey"
was one caused be eating some bad meat). Yes, he loved his
wife, and his children, but he had a plan for escape and
this opportunity was not one that he was going to pass up.
He knew that if he escaped, his wife would be told that he
was dead. He thought of the pain he would cause her, and
shed a tear, for tomorrow he was going to adventure to a
place far from anywhere he had ever known.

The following entry by: rachel; rusty@inetdirect.com
He would go to this new world everyone was taklking about.
He would slip in behind the lion. he ould go out the door
the lion got in and kill anyone who opposed him. john would
go get his family and go to the New world, if he made it, if
it works.

The following entry by: C-MAN; caesar@romae.com
The next day was a feast day, so John knew his chance at
freedom had arrived. He submitted to the cruel treatment of
the guards just long enough to get his sword and armor. The
lions were hungry when they leapt from their cages, running
full out at John. To the crowd's great pleasure, he
dispatched one after the other with ease that belied his
fear. The cage doors were both open, and the guards were too
drunk on wine to notice his departure. His chance was now!
Carpe Diem!

The following entry by: Stacey Hellekson; dhellekson@imt.net
Deciding to seize his fleeting chance at freedom, he sprints
towards the opening. Just as fate would have it, the
drunken guard wakes himself in time to nab John with the tip
of his ragged, rusty steel spear. John lashes out with his
sword and quickly lops off the burly arm of the guard. "Ha,"
John claims."fate cannot stop me!"

The following entry by: danielle and stephanie;
Spartacus was really a god from mt. olympus who came to
punish the romans for being cruel to the slaves.

The following entry by: Dragi;
It was not that Spartacus was without slaves nor was against
slavery but the his own slave, leia, was killed in a drunken
rage by his uncle. It was from that moment on that he swore
vengence for any cruelty to those that would serve. And so
it was that he was here, to reek death to the man that had
killed here for sport.

The following entry by: C-MAN;
'Why would I dream of such a strange thing like that?'
Spartacus mused, arising from his bed of brush and olive
branches. 'Possibly it was sent from a god, but what god
would look like a giant pickle? Well, I'd better get
moving. The guards are sure to be looking for me in full
force by now.' Spartacus prayed to Diana for the skills
needed to kill off the guards, if it came to that. He heard
a rustle in the underbrush, and smelled the uncanny scent of
rotting flesh. He moved in to investigate, sword drawn and
ready...

The following entry by: Sophia;
John finally felt freedom. His dream. Yet something was
wrong. He knew. He could feel it deep inside him. It wasn't
pain, though. And it wasn't hunger. It was guilt. He had
killed to get his freedom. Freedom is such a strange thing,
he thought. It isn't something you can see. It's just a
state of mind. And as long as your conscience doesn't agree
with what you are doing, you can never be free.

The following entry by: Sophie;
Spartacus approached the mysterious smells and sounds.
Suddenly, he felt a dagger in his back. He cried out in pain
and whirled around.

The following entry by: rosa papirius; blaurence@stjvic.org
Spartacus realizes he is seeing the truth at last! Truth
that is hard to understand. What is the meaning of all that
has transpired in his life? He now knows that he is really
meant to be a philosopher!

The following entry by: C.J.; Carolsue_Carlson-Jones@tampa prep.usf.edu
Spartacus lived and fought then he died.

The following entry by: The Old Lady;
One day Spartacus met this old lady on the Appian Way.
Spartacus was shocked. The old lady pretended like she knew
Spartacus. Spartacus didn't pay any attention though. He
just kicked dirt in front of her and walked on. But the old
lady turned to him and said,
"You will have a major fight in the Colosseum, and you
will die."
Spartacus looked at the old lady and walked further down
the road, pondering on what this old lady had said

The following entry by: Sara Dodd-Henze; sara741@yahoo.com
Spartacus was getting tired of this road. He'd been walking
along for hours now. He had dust in his eyes, there was no
drinkable water anywhere in sight, and it looked as if he
was going to have to sleep in a ditch. There were no signs
of human habitation, aside from the group of bandits he had
had to fend off single-handedly. He took the money from
their bloody corpses as well as a couple of rotten olives
and some rancid goat-meat.

The following entry by: cware@irvingisd.org; camron ware
He walked the lonely road for days, until finally reached the great Colosseum in Rome. His return was greatly celebrated by the common folk, who had heard of the great battles he had won in the past. He marched into the Colosseum, and the crowd stood and cheered. The emperor stood and announced the next challenger, and said that Spartacus would fight him. The crowd cheered as Spartacus raised him sword in pre-emptive victory...

The following entry by: obi; jobi22@hotmail.com
His next fighter was going to be his long-lost friend, Spartacus, who used to be a gladiator. He hesitated about fighting Spartacus, but remembered that he had to in other to get his freedom. The battle is just about to begin. The emperor gives the signal for the battle to begin
