lukElfin Wednesday, November 3rd 2010 - 02:19:21 PM luke.p.j.metcalf@gmail.com Just stopped by the site as i have been revisiting the Robin of Sherwood series... undoubtedly a classic. Mark plays the role of Nasir so well. Back in my childhood i spent many a day fighting with hazel staff (still do now to be honest) and often with two short hazel rods immitating Nasir! It's great to know that Mark continues to have such a succesful career. :-)

Irina Maslakova Friday, August 7th 2009 - 10:33:46 AM IRKIN1971@gmail.com Hello,Mark! My name`s Irina. I live in Russia.

Laura Wednesday, November 7th 2007 - 06:31:37 AM laurab180876@yahoo.co.uk Looking through my record collection, I came across the original soundtrack (on vinyl) to Robin Hood by Clannad. The inner sleeve has a "who's who" of cast members. That brought back memories. I loved Robin Hood as a kid. Though my kids prefer the new series on BBC1, they don't know what they're missing. Why can't the original Nasir be offered a cameo? That would be top notch.

Cathy Alm Thursday, October 25th 2007 - 10:34:56 AM Stcatharine@aol.com Mark seems like a great guy to know. I loved him as Nasir, but I love that he's more than an actor. But who wouldn't talk to Mr.Mark Ryan?

Roy Sunday, July 22nd 2007 - 03:33:12 PM aquariusangel1973@yahoo.co.uk This is great! I'm so stoked about taking my son to see the new 'Transformers' movie anyway and tonight I found out that THE Mark Ryan voices Bumblebee!!! I was utterly fanatical about 'Robin of Sherwood' as a kid. Nazir was absolutely my favourite character (being the only kid of arab descent in the school, the character was a role model for me). Nazir (or rather Mark) was the reason I took up martial arts, whereas most kids would name Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. Really good to see him still around, still going strong, and playing such an important role in such a cult movie. Thanks for everything Mark! Roy

Gaynor Ingram Tuesday, June 26th 2007 - 06:40:18 AM gaynoringram@yahoo.co.uk Now living in Holland and still signing, back end of 80's I had the pleasure of woring with you for a day in a small recording studio near Portsmouth, Hampshire. I was already working in a Duo with a gentleman called Greg Watkins. The project you were trying to get off the ground was the musical Wuthering Heights. I sang a couple of your numbers. I was young and vocally inexperienced so listening to the ol'tape makes me laugh, yes I still have it. Coming up to 20 years now in the business and still rockin'and rollin'here in The Hague and in Germany where they seem to love British singers, I think vocally I've improved lol:!!Great website. Marald Mens Friday, March 2nd 2007 - 05:22:25 AM marald@pausjoannes.nl Dear mr. Ryan, It's an honor for me to have the opportunity to send you a personal email. It's been 18 years that you 've played an important role in my childhood/puberty as Nasir in Robin of Sherwood. As a young man full of hormones and wanting for action, the series and your character (with all the swordmastery) made big impression to me and my friends. At this moment, the DVD-release takes place in Holland of the series. So now, as an adult, me and 2 childhood friends sat down with popcorn and beer and watched the DVD. And we smiled and enjoyed seeing all the heroes of many years ago. When we saw you as the servant of The Sorcerer we jumped up: Nasir our hero ! So I promissed I would be searching your name on the internet. And I found your guestbook. But what to say to Nasir, a hero from my childhood memory? I hope that your career has been fruitful. Reading your website gives the impression that that's true ! I wish you all the best and thank you for giving me and my (childhood) friends a warm memory... Marald Mens Roosendaal, Holland

I am 34 now and it really takes me back to larping about - my friend always wanted to be marion or Robin, I was always Nasir (with less facial hair i may add) Watching the series has brought back a lot of happy memories and a certain spark. This has really cheered me up as illness in the family has made it a difficult 4 years. I didnt realise you are from Yorkshire. A beautiful part of the world. I am from Lancashire, but my heart lays in the Lakes. I am hoping to start climbing again this year or at least get walking with my dog. I hope this finds you well. Lyn Braden Friday, December 8th 2006 - 03:37:01 PM lynbraden@ftcsc.k12.in.us Hi, I really like your site. I learned so much I didn't know. I've written a story featuring the character of Nasir. My writing skills are very amateurish, but I thought you or some of your readers might enjoy it. I was hoping to send it to you as an attachment via e-mail, but I have run into some problems. I work in a school and our computers have a very powerful firewall that will not allow access to content more adult than Humpty Dumpty or The Three Little Pigs. Oh, and that is only if Humpty doesn't break his shell when he falls, and the pigs become great friends with the big bad wolf by the end of the story. Okay, maybe it isn't that bad, but I still can't access your site. My home computer is from the 90's which must be the dark age of computers, because the e-mail button on your site won't work for me. Sorry to clutter your nice guestbook like this, but I thought that there would be no better audience for my story than on this site, so any help would be appreciated, perhaps an e-mail address where I could send the story. Thanks, Lynn Braden

Peter Clarke Sunday, October 8th 2006 - 06:26:18 PM peterclarke809@btinternet.com Hi Mark, I am thirty five, I watched RoS as a teenager-it held me spellbound then, and still does now. What a superb show, a fantastic cast of actors, great storylines, fabulous attention to detail, marvellous music by 'Clannad.' Nasir was a fascinating character, a taciturn individual, a great warrior-he let his twin swords & throwing daggers do the talking. A very cool cat! The show means alot to me & many others,no doubt Mark is very proud of his association with this brilliant show. The rather mundane BBC production that has just appeared is not in the same league as RoS, it does not stand up at all. I have heard a rumour that Kip Carpenter is currently writing a follow up to RoS, it will depict our heroes twenty years down the line from when we last saw them. Is this true??! Let's hope so, it would be great to see Naz do his stuff again with the twin swords! Cheers, Pete Clarke

Nyks Tuesday, June 6th 2006 - 07:41:11 PM nyksmeresger@yahoo.com http://www.livejournal.com Happy 50th birthday to the man and my salutations. I guess I've been a fan of sorts since I was nine, though the latest bout lifted its rather random head on May day's eve. Haven't been quite able to pull myself away from RoS since then so I'm enjoying this part of the cycle while it lasts, though I'm more IMPRESSED by Greenwood Tarot and the rest. All the best and virtual love and respect from Finland. Have fun. I'd've appreciated a chance to scramble the email addy by putting spaces there, btw, but okay then, yahoo gets spammed enough as it is. Thanks for the site, anyway.

April Friday, May 26th 2006 - 08:18:35 AM bebopcowgirl26@yahoo.com Hello Mark! Great to see you still working and it seems loving what you do. I remember watching Robin of Sherwood on my local public television station in Maryland when I was 16 years old. There was nothing like it on tv at the time. I thought Nasir was the coolest and all of the cast of characters were wonderful. I'm shocked at how many times I've seen you on the big screen and not realized it was you! Thank the gods for the internet, and Mary for making such an awesome site. Keep up the good work.

Tony Willies Thursday, February 2nd 2006 - 07:22:04 PM silatone@hotmail.com I am one of the origional RoS groupies!! I first discovered RoS when they were filming in Cheddar gorge, Somerset. After that I was somehow allowed to watch the recordings behind the cameras and met all the cast. Phil Rose, (Friar Tuck), be-friended me and I soon introduced him to my mother. After that we were given the 'royal treatment' so to speak. We were behind the scenes for many of the episodes travelling all around the south west. I got to know most of the cast quite well, even though I was only about 11 at the time. We spent many a good time both behind scenes, and even on the sets, but alas I don't think my acting skills were quite up to par. My mother even went for a few rides on Michael Praeds horse, and that went onto camera, but not into an episode...mainly due to the fact that she was wearing jeans and a t-shirt at the time....didn't quite fit into the wardobe era!! I have many fond memories of being with the crew....battling it out with Clive Mantle and Ray Winstone with staffs, having a sword fight with Michael and Mark Ryan...but he cheated as he always had two swords...scared the crap out of me!! I still have somewhere the silver arrow badge with Clannad's name engraved on it. Somewhere I also have lots of photos that we took behind the scenes. I remember many party's and have seen most of the cast drunk on several occasions....I also remember drinking a lot of beer from everybody's glasses whilst they weren't looking. In the later episodes the atmosphere changed, due to the departure of Michael. Things weren't quite the same when Jason Connery came into the show. It was great to have someone with a bit of clout, being the son of Sean, and he was a relly nice guy, but it just wasn't the same...still a great show though. Great to see that you are doing well Mark, and your website is awesome. What would it take to have a RoS reunion episode...or even better, a complete series?? Now how cool would that be. RoS was, without a doubt the best series during the 80's....

Wonderful site, just brilliant! :)) I met Mark and went out with him and friends some years ago in London after the play he was in; Mystery Of Edwin Drood, which I loved. I didn't want to leave! :)) I'm just sad that I don't have a way to say hello to him. I have been sword fighting now for about 10 years and It's all Mark's fault. :)) I got into sword fighting because of him. I'm VERY impressed with the fighting in King Arthur!! Well done Mark!!! Hearing him talk about King Arthur and then seeing it was great.

Lillian Tuesday, August 24th 2004 - 09:00:23 AM lillian.lee@sonoma.edu Hello. I was fortunate to see Robin of Sherwood some years ago and was captivated by Nasir. I love to see swordplay on screen and watching Nasir wielding two blades knocked my socks off! Then I saw King Arthur. I was intrigued by the idea that the Arthurian legends started much earlier in history and come from Indo-European roots. I loved the movie and am reading everything related to it that I can get my hands on. How very fortunate I am that my search has brought me here to Mark's website.

It was nice to see other elements included also, like the Tarot and paganism aspects as well as Mark's acting record and other projects. Mark rules, anyway. :) Nasir was always my favourite from Robin Hood anyway! And like a true Yorkshireman, he never said much - just raised an eyebrow every now and then... :) *L* Great site, have bookmarked you. :)

Harlene Monday, July 26th 2004 - 05:40:41 AM harlenesemmens@blueyonder.co.uk Having just recently replaced my videos of RoS with DVD, I have been 'rediscovering' my passion for it. It brought back fond memories as a child watching the programme with my brother and being blown away by this absolutely fantastic actor who fought with two swords and said very little. Neither of us had *ever* seen anyone fight like that before and to us that was the height of coolness. So began a long love affair for me and that mysterious stranger. Thank you Mark for producing such an amazing performance of a character who has stood the test of time and has become as enduring as Robin Hood himself. Blessed Be.

Piotr Sunday, May 2nd 2004 - 12:04:28 PM saurom@poczta.onet.pl All episodes of Robin of Sherwood were good except episodes from season in which play Jason Connery. I don't like this season because they put in this season too many sci fiction. Music was not the same, I don't know maybe people which made this serial finish contract with Clannad or maybe it is something another. The most interesting characters in this serial were Nasir and Will Scarlett. I wish that actor which play Nasir charcter will still play in good movie and serial Long live for Mark Ryan and the other veterans from Robin Hood.

Torsten Gunnehill Monday, December 22nd 2003 - 04:21:27 AM bennythecop@semera.se Hello! I liked watching "Robin of Sherwood" as a kid, and recently my brother bought the new DVD-boxes of the complete series. It felt great to watch this wonderful series again, and to re-experience all these great characters and stories. And Nasir is one of the best. I really like the way Mark Ryan fights, and the character is very interesting. I've heard that Mark is the sword master for the new "King Arthur"-movie, and that will be one of the main reasons why I will go and see it when it is released. Thanks!
