| Comments: | I was cleaning out my closet today and ran across a box of cassette tapes. I found various STC, Xmen and F.O.N. tapes and thought I would randomly google out of curiosity. Wow, what a trip down memory lane reading your blog, Mark. Not sure if you remembered me, but thought I would say Hi. |

| Comments: | I used to work at Cat's Records with Mark (I had been grandfathered in when Nashville Cat's bought out Karma Records on Green River Rd). I really enjoyed talking to Mark and (later) Greg Armstrong (of The Inverted Nipples fame) about the music we each loved.
I have to admit I wasn't into the Goth scene as much as Utley (The Cure was cool, but Depeche Mode and Gene Loves Jezebel never did a lot for me), but I did like going to the Stop The Car gigs at the Ross and at the Old Courthouse. I really loved it when STC would rip through the Stray Cats' "How Long You Want to Live Anyway?" or Melissa's turns on "White Rabbit" and "The Metro". Still, it was the band's own music that impressed me most. I also owe Mark a huge debt of gratitude for introducing me to the music of Big Star and for making me some excellent comp tapes of Japan, Tones On Tail, and the Cocteau Twins just to name a few. We used to have a lot of fun closing out the store and jamming the music as loud as that dilapidated store stereo would play so I could hear it over the vacuum while Mark put the day's meager earnings into the hidden safe. I used to piss him off something fierce by putting on "Kokomo", but it always gave me a kick when he'd run out from the back room yelling "Noooooooooo!" (on a side note, I love the classic Beach Boys - especially "Pet Sounds" and "Sunflower" and Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" is another lost 70's classic deserving a write up by Herr Utley in The Program, but I digress). I've been in Texas since 1990, but I always love thinking back on the good folks I used to work with at Karma, Cat's East and Cat's North. My musical tastes have become quite varied (Power Pop, Metal, Reggae, Alternative, Grunge, Americana, Folk, Texas Outlaw, Jazz, Prog, World, etc.) thanks to those years of college when I worked in music retail. It really broadened my appreciation for musicians of all types of music and I'm still exploring more styles. I hope that you guys are doing well! It's been fun downloading the mp3s and looking at the flyers and checking out Crackrabbit's site. Keep on rockin'! |

| Comments: | Wow, I have no idea how I stumbled on this site! Brings back great memories of catching STC and Rocky Horror at the Ross. Used to live across the street from Jon Curtis in the bustling metropolis of Henderson, Ky. We'd get together, play early geek games (AD&D, Top Secret, etc.), we'd listen to the latest Cabaret Voltaire or Human League and he'd talk about wanting to play with STC someday! :)
What was that other place the bands would play in E'Ville? Stevenson Station or something? Who was that guy that ran the Ross? Jerry? Man, I'm getting old. Can barely remember putting on the eyeliner, drinking in the Ross parking lot and watching STC and other bands (i.e. Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel anyone?). |

Okay, so I stopped before then, but well done last night at the art gallery that is five hundred times nicer than the Alhambra used to be – wow, the sink was attached to the wall! You didn’t take me back because I swear ya’ll have improved exponentially from the eighties.
Thanks for making the trip to stinky ol’ E’ville. Laura Pinhey and I drove by the old house on the way home – miss the couch. |

Somebody may remember me or some of our little odd group at Reitz HS with Melissa English,Chris Brooke,Heather Kello,Kim Ashley,Paul Hutchinson,Tracy Lipking,Sara Wolf. Some of us only dressed crazy away from school. I have red hair, waaay back I always had my hair kinda weird and wore bizarre clothes.Hey,who didnt? Dressed as punkyDeath for a Ross Halloween STC concert. Had skull face paint and skeleton hand gloves, long black overcoat;they wouldnt let me bring in my (real) scythe.Mmm,imagine that. My point, anybody that may have known us, drop a note to me,be interesting to hear from you.Im still in Evansville. Sorry for the social advert. |

I'm not sure I even know how I stumbled across this site. I wasn't looking for it...I just ended up here. I'm glad I did. Many fond memories have flooded back into my head in last couple of minutes. The pictures already brought me back but then I discovered an MP3 of "I Wanna be Her Man"...bless you. Believe it or not, to this day I still find my self singing that, even though I haven't heard in in about 15 years. To date, it is the only song I know with the mentioning of a Honda CVCC. ;) Just reading some of the names that have signed this address book have taken me back. (that hell-hole on Blackford...aahhh, memories) I remember buying my tape of "Blue Creatures" from Vince at Cats Records (or was it Folz City, I don't remember when the name changed.) I also remember buying music from Mark Fischer in the mall and I believe from a short lived store on the corner of Morgan and Green River. I also think I remember Mark Utley working in one of the mall book stores for a while. Anyways...thanks for the memories. |

Well, I missed one-off and am depressed becasue I miss the music. I also miss the Lovely Laura Lukens, Melissa English (hearing her sing White Rabbit still haunts my erotic dreams) and I have completely lost contact with "Uncle Mike" who used to do a Sunday radio show on WUEV called The Psychedelic Cabaret. Any and all who remember or wish to swap Ross stories feel free to contact me. Now known as, Tony Chaos Pirate of Kazoobia |

| Comments: | Went to your one-off concert; the Girl from Minneapolis, Shev-Jr's friend. I'd gladly travel to Evansville again (and again) to hear that music live. You guys amazed me--both for the performance I witnessed and for the simple fact that I never thought I'd get to hear live what I heard so many times coming out of his (and, later, my own) speakers.
I am so glad I went and even moreso that I was able to see you live. I hope it was as fun for you to perform as it was for us in the audience to watch. Take care and the best to you all. If you ever decide to do it again, I'll be there come hell or high water. |

| Comments: | I shared a house with you and Vince and some other fine people on Kentucky Avenue. I suppose it was a quieter, gentler, STC establishment, as the house never smelled all that bad. More introspective I suppose, as we spent most of out time sitting in the upstairs appointed Mark/Vince area, drinking Reunite Lambrusco and watching the folks at Allen's Lounge shoot at each other. You worked so hard to realize your dream. Best wishes to anyone who remembers me. |

| Comments: | Hey Kids. Using my online alias here. Former Evansville rat here. Also, cousin to the oh-so-talented Melissa English. Missy has a few years on me, so I was too young to have gone to any of the earlier shows. It wasn't until in my teens when I found a casette Missy had given my mother that I fell in love with STC. I was lucky enough to have Melissa fly to Florida and sing at my wedding a few years ago. The memories of her singing have outlasted the marriage *smile*. She did bring me a copy of Blue Creatures on CD, and now I can lose my mind to "She's So Cool" while celebrating my single status. |

| Comments: | Gosh,I have been transformed back to the days of The Ross, STC house and drinking way too much beer and County Quencher(what was that cheap wine called?) oh ya...Boones Farm. I will never forget cleaning the STC house for my birthday party, mopping the floor after sweeping up a ton of cat poopy. That was a party to remember. Thanks for some great times. I learned alot about love, creativity, and friendships. I am now married to a therapist, funny huh? I am also the proud mother of a 17 month old. Drop me a line. |

| Comments: | Why after so many days of sleeplessness do I somehow find myself listening and/or looking for Stop the Car? It's always a good find though. Happy to see I am not the only person from the daze, that has fond *memories (*am I allowed to say that, I mean truth be told..?).
Anyway I came across an STC CD... ..the next thing I knew I was here. You guys truly rocked that city inside out and provided me with plenty of sex (via your lovable "groupies"), and blurry, happy memories. How could I ever forget? uhm.. anyway.. ..I haven't got to the "where are you now" portion, if it's here. I always get stumped when I get to the old photos of Melissa. Yum. You have to be the most fun person to lust after.. ...I guess the "girlfriends" I had ended up being more "fun", but you get the jist. I love your photos, they bring back memories I didn't think I had.????? ANYway, hopefully (band) you are still rockin somewhere and Melissa I hope you are truly happy and "whole." Everyone reading this who knows me is like, "damn dude, shut the fuk up, will you ever quit?" No. I like this site. It let me release some STC feelings.. ..now I can mosey back to Virgin Prunes, Interpol, and even some Chicks on Speed, just to get me dancin. Cheers!! J |

| Comments: | I like the 'stale beer, incense, cat piss, etc...' comment. Brings back a lot of memories of drinking cat piss (I think Brendan and I consumed all of Signal Liquors 7 oz. Little Kings...) and smelling like stale beer the cats pissed all over your clothes. I think most of the incense was snorted, which would explain the lingering odor...
Oh, I also remember setting my room on fire the first night I stayed at there. |

| Comments: | Well it took me long enough to get here, but you knew that it was gonna happen eventually, didn't you? Because of you guys (and a few others) a few things occurred: (1) i was able to discover many differant types of music (2) forget alot of my time at the stc house because of bucket loads and bucketloads of booze and (3) get the iniative on starting a band,so if anyone wants to blame someone for seeing my silly butt on stage, it is YOUR fault haha. but seriously seen this site made me have flashbacks that the drugs in the past couldn't do, so thanks |

We had many a jam session (which I still have recorded). So I feel like I now have a piece of history from this awsome dude. The "GARAGE" still survives and the "DEADLY SEED" LIVES.....

Thanks to all who visit and leave their comments here. It's been great hearing from old friends and fans who stumble upon the site, reconnect with us and share their memories of STC. Thanks also to all of you who have been clamoring for part two of the STC history. I have posted the first installment of the long-delayed Part Two tonight and will continue adding to it in the near future. Comments, angry denials, corrections, etc. are always welcome. In the meantime, please leave a guestbook entry and let us know you were here. Peace, Mark |
