If you notice on the first episode, Tom is sleeping on the sofa, the camera pans slowly and eerily past him and into the flames of the fire, to start off the whole "dream sequence" which was the Good Life. Barbera appears miraculously next to him in the next frame. shes gone to bed remember. the Godd life is a Dream indeed. ;) |

I saw the series the first time round as I am English and lived there until last year. There was something magical about that series. It was clever, warm, charming, and of course funny. Like all good comedies, it dealt with issues that were not all good. I cared about those characters. The casting was absolutely inspired. There was something about each character that made people love them. Tom was probably the central character, in that his ideas drove the show. Barbara was the perfect partner, supporting him almost to a fault, and making us believe that they really were a real couple that loved each other. Jerry had that rebellious nature and a set of facial expressions that were hilarious. I will never forget the scene when he was eating a curry. Margo became the biggest character in the show as the writers developed the characters. Her snobbery was the perfect ingredient to balance the show. Thinking of each actor in turn, I think each is the best. It's almost impossible to split them or imagine the show with another actor in any of the roles. Most of my favorite comedies are American. I love MASH, Friends and Frasier, and a number of others. But the Good Life is unlike anything else I have ever seen. They didn't have to sell the show with sex, violence, or bad language. The writing and the acting was able to let the show stand on its own. All of the main characters went on to produce other good work. Eddington's Yes Minister and Briars' Ever Decreasing Circles were both exceptional, and To The Manor Born saw Penelope Keith excel. I miss it, but I am glad to know that it touched you too and that you decided to keep the site going. Thanks. |

Then one evening I was watching an episode - and it hit me like a ton of bricks: The realization that Felicity Kendal was the most adorable little lady on earth. From that moment on, I had an absolutely TERRIBLE crush on her: I used to watch one episode after another, freezing frames when she had just the right expression (c'mon - admit it, men!). Penelope Keith plays the role brilliantly, she has me in stitches all the time whenever I watch the show. I may only be 17 but I will admit I find "The Good Life" hiliarious and the best sitcom ive ever seen! |

| Comments: | I have only recently discovered this excellent show and I must say I think its the funniest comedy series Ive ever seen! I recently got the whole collection of The Good Life on VHS for christmas and I love it.
I am a great fan of Felicity And Penelope. Without doubt, my fave character is Margo. She has me in stitches - all she has to say is "Good morning Tom good morning Barbara and I laugh. There are so many fave moments of mine from the series but heres a few of my all time faves: (all Margo's lines of course) "Well thats the last time I play the tart for you Jerry!" "Well thankyou very much Jerry!" "Let us remember that It is I who supply the gingerbread men for rehearsal teas!" "Would you kindly eat in in the kitchen with the extractor fan full on?!" "Let me remind you that I am the only alto who can hit an A below middle C!" "Good Morning Tom Good morning Barbara its only me Margo". |
